Book Islamic State in Australia

Download or read book Islamic State in Australia written by Rodger Shanahan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book fills a gap in our knowledge about the activities of Western supporters and members of Islamic State by examining the experience of their Australian cohort. More than 200 Australian men, women and children travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight with Islamist groups and to help establish an Islamic state by force. Dozens more assisted Islamic State by supporting those overseas, or by planning or carrying out terrorist attacks in Australia. For all that, little is publicly known about the impact of the Syrian conflict on Australia's radical Islamists. This book provides a well-researched examination of how and why so many Australians travelled to fight for, or otherwise supported Islamic State. From the failed attempt to bring down an Etihad passenger plane en route from Sydney to Abu Dhabi, to showing their children holding the heads of Syrian soldiers, Australians were prominent in carrying out Islamic State's directions. Using a range of Australian and foreign court records, social and mainstream media content, this book provides the first detailed look at who these people were, what tasks they carried out, how they came to adopt this radical view of Islam, and what long-term legal and security implications are likely to result from their actions. This book will be of interest to students of terrorism, political Islam, Australian politics and security studies"--

Book The Islamic State in Khorasan

Download or read book The Islamic State in Khorasan written by Antonio Giustozzi and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So-called Islamic State began to appear in what it calls Khorasan (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, Iran and India) in 2014. Reports of its presence were at first dismissed as propaganda, but during 2015 it became clear that IS had a serious presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan at least. This book, by one of the leading experts on Islamist insurgency in the region, explores the nature of IS in Khorasan, its aim and strategies, and its evolution in an environment already populated by many jihadist organisations. Based on first-hand research and numerous interviews with members of IS in Khorasan, as well as with other participants and observers, the book addresses highly contentious issues such as funding, IS's relationship with the region's authorities, and its interactions with other insurgent groups. Giustozzi argues that the central leadership of IS invested significant financial resources in establishing its own branch in Khorasan, and as such it is more than a local movement which adopted the IS brand for its own aims. Though the central leadership has been struggling in implementing its project, it is now turning towards a more realistic approach. This is the first book on a new frontier in Islamic State's international jihad.

Book Under Siege Black Muslim Down Under

Download or read book Under Siege Black Muslim Down Under written by Sulaiman Abdur-Rahman and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under Siege: Black Muslim Down Under is a memoir that chronicles the life of professional journalist Sulaiman Abdur-Rahman as it gives the gripping account on why he walked away from his high-profile journalism career in the United States to migrate to Sydney, Australia. Wrapped in a riveting love story, Abdur-Rahman's memoir also serves as a must-read social commentary about race and religion. Drawing upon his life experience and writing from his perspective as an African-American Muslim, Abdur-Rahman uses his bulldog journalism style, backed with compelling evidence, to explain why the Commonwealth of Australia is a culturally challenged nation that offers a lower quality of life and lesser opportunities for advancement than the United States of America. The narrative inevitably touches upon the religion of Islam and the global fight against the Islamic State international terrorist group. In the end, this memoir conveys an unprecedented story about faith, love, adversity, and romance.

Book Matriarch and World War Iii

Download or read book Matriarch and World War Iii written by Daisy Snow and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-04-06 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author was one of those people in Melbourne who knew about 9/11 before it happened. The terrorist squad of the police force harassed her in the late 1990’s when the government began writing up its intended terrorist laws. The poor woman was nearly shot dead as a female terrorist just after the Bali bombing. A United Nations meeting convened on the other side of the brick wall where she parked her truck. “Matriarch and World War III; Internal State Terrorism in Australia” was therefore compulsory. Just who masterminded 9/11 doesn’t really matter anymore. The 21st Century invasions of Islamic countries and the suicide bombings and carnage in the world demand an explanation. In the 1970’s the United Nations told the world to reduce population growth. Islam and the Catholic Church refused. The problem is that Islamic countries can only export their overpopulation in an attempt to reduce the humanitarian crises that arise from too many people demanding the necessities of life. Jihad for women in Islam means excess children and refugee status. When invaded, the mujahedeen volunteer to fight to the death; the others flee as refugees to consolidate their numbers elsewhere—the traditional strategy of military Islam. Representative democracy has a weakness—the numbers win the vote. The long-term, cold war military strategies of Islam therefore go beyond parliamentary consideration. The hullabaloo about the humanitarian crisis in the world and the demands of Islamic refugees overshadow the targeting of the unwanted in Australia. The naive and the uninformed don’t know. Secrecy Provisions prevail. World War III is a collection of civil wars all around the world.

Download or read book Australian Phoenix written by Bob Olivier and published by . This book was released on 2021-10-16 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you're a fan of political thrillers, you'll love this riveting, action-packed hunt for a terrorist mastermind. Professor David Scott becomes embroiled in the aftermath of an attack on Sydney Opera House, which is bombed from the sky and then attacked by armed terrorists, with scores of civilian casualties. Islamic Terrorism splits the nation! Who are the terrorists behind the attack, and how could local Australians commit such a horrific crime against their fellow-countrymen? With society slowly descending into chaos, non-Muslims and Muslims increasingly retaliate against each other. The Prime Minister and his Cabinet struggle to keep control of the situation, helped by two men suddenly thrust into positions of enormous responsibility. David Scott is a university professor, an expert in Political Islam, whose mother had been killed in the Opera House atrocity, enlisted by the PM to find out how local Muslims could be susceptible to be recruited for such a crime. Jason Blake is a senior member of the Australian Federal Police, placed in charge of the pursuit of the terrorists behind the massacre. While Jason is hunting the Mastermind behind the terrorist attacks, he is drawn in to helping David in the bigger issue of finding reasons for the existence of such home-grown terrorists. And David is plunged into the centre of the action, eventually coming face to face with the terrorist mastermind himself... The book fearlessly addresses how people in Western societies lack understanding of the Muslim communities that have come to their country as immigrants, and conversely, how those Muslim communities don't realize why, and the extent to which, many people in the host communities are wary of them. It describes how the Muslim communities, goaded by David, go through a process of self-examination to see if changes to the way in which they practice their religion are necessary, and even desirable. This is the backdrop to the story of three individuals and the impact the terrorist act and its after-effects has on them. The relationship between David and his fiancée Dina, a Muslim, slowly unravels as the pressure of the rupture in society and the anti-Muslim feelings associated intrudes into their lives, and David is forced to come to terms with his deep-seated but unacknowledged concerns about the subject to which he has devoted much of his professional life. Meanwhile Jason, under enormous pressure to stop the terrorists who continue to commit sporadic acts of horrifying violence, is engaged in a deadly Cat and Mouse game with the terrorist Mastermind.

Book Banning Islamic Books in Australia

Download or read book Banning Islamic Books in Australia written by C. R. Pennell and published by Melbourne Univ. Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005, the Australian Federal Police referred eight Islamic books to the Australian Classification Board. The goal was to secure a ban of the books, all of which were alleged to advocate 'terrorist acts'. After nearly a year of review, and intense public debate, two of the books were refused classification and effectively banned in a move that would have severe repercussions for librarians, scholars, authors and the state of free speech in Australia. Banning Islamic Books in Australia examines the cultural and political contexts that led up to the ban, and the content of the books themselves in an attempt to determine what it was that made them seem so dangerous. It also documents the unintended consequences of the ban on library collections and academic freedom, and how this in turn affects free speech in contemporary Australia.

Book ISS 6 Muslims In Australia

Download or read book ISS 6 Muslims In Australia written by and published by Academic Monographs. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Muslims in Australia have attracted increased attention as citizens in the last decade. The research scholars in this book present a complex and dynamic picture of their presence and experiences in Australia, taking us far beyond simplistic notions of security threats and discrimination. Their contributions reveal that Muslims and non-Muslims, as individuals and communities, display many different attitudes towards each other and towards many issues, including reactions to the media, threats of terrorism and access to Islamic schools. The non-Muslim community does not always set the agenda for these interactions: Muslims experience exclusion while excluding others at the same time, often other Muslims. Muslims in Australia portrays the varied ways in which Muslims traverse spaces of inclusion and exclusion, and suggests ideas to encourage and sustain acceptance and social cohesion.

Book excerpt: From the best-selling author of The Commando and Born to Fight comes a fascinating investigation of modern warfare that combines methodical research and the fast-paced action of battle with the personal stories of the combatants on both sides of the line. Taking us from the suburbs of western Sydney and Australia's military army bases, to the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq, this is a remarkable book that reveals the as-yet untold story of the battle for Mosul and the secret involvement of Australians on both sides of the war - both our Commandos and Australian ISIS fighters. Mosul details the rise of ISIS influence in Australia, the Iran and Australia allegiance to fight Daesh and shows what led up to the battle and the ramifications that are still being felt at home - by our soldiers and the victims of that war. Ben Mckelvey has extraordinary access to SOOCOMD/2COMMANDO units - the most decorated modern Australian fighting unit; ISOF - Iraq's premier fighters; Yazidis women who had been slaves of ISIS; returned Commandos and their devastated families, and explains how petty criminals in Western Sydney became some of our worst jihadists who took their families to Iraq to fight for ISIS. Focusing on the stories of key figures like 2 Commando's Ian Turner and one of Australia's most infamous Jihadist, Khaled Sharrouf, Mckelvey takes us the heart of this brutal battle and brings history to life in an honest, thoughtful and compelling examination of modern warfare. A must-read for anyone interested in modern military history.

Book From Victims to Suspects

Download or read book From Victims to Suspects written by Shakira Hussein and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on interviews and examples from across the globe, this book tackles the shifting narratives surrounding Muslim women Once regarded as passive victims waiting to be rescued, Muslim women are now widely regarded as arbiters of "terror" and a potential threat to be kept under control. Drawing on interviews and examples from around the world including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Europe, and North America, Shakira Hussein shows how this shift in attitude has taken place and how it impacts feminism, multiculturalism, race, and religion on a global scale. She argues that alongside the fear of Islamic terrorism is a growing fear of Islam as a cultural hazard that is undermining Western society from within. Muslim women, the transmitters of cultural practices, are frequently seen to play a key role in this. Hussein’s work makes for a compelling read, offering a unique perspective on what it means to be a Muslim woman post-9/11.
