Book Islam Our Choice

Download or read book Islam Our Choice written by Debra L. Dirks and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increasing number of American women are embracing Islam, already over one million converts. These are modern American women born and brought up in America to non-Muslim parents. They have journeyed down the path of Islam without giving up their American heritage and found liberation and self-actualization by becoming Muslims. "This book presents the personal accounts of six American Muslim women who have been kind enough to share their first-person stories of the winding roads they traveled en-route to embracing Islam. In giving their personal portrayals of their individual journeys to Islam, some of these sisters-in-Islam have publicly proclaimed far more about their personal lives than they normally would be willing to share. In essence, they have sacrificed some of their personal privacy, as well as some of their normal reticence and modesty about their personal and private lives.Being American sisters-in-Islam does not mean that we are any less zealous than other Americans in cherishing our rights as Americans, and it does not mean that we are any less patriotic... What the authors... share with other modern women in America is immense, and cannot be easily overstated... However, despite all the things that we share with our fellow Americans who are non-Muslims, what we have come to share with our worldwide sisters-in-Islam is especially sweet and appealing. While each of us remains an American, we are Americans who have joined a very special and caring sisterhood that transcends biological inheritance, personal genetics, ethnicity, race, and socioeconomic status. We have come to understand and to love the fact that what is important is individual righteousness, notsuperfluous consid

Download or read book The Third Choice written by Mark Durie and published by . This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third Choice provides a compelling introduction to Islam on the basis of its primary sources, the Quran and the life of Muhammad. Topics covered include the sharia; interpretation of the Quran; abrogation; women's rights (including female genital mutilation); lawful deception (taqiyya); Muhammad's responses to opposition; Islamic antisemitism; religious freedom; and prospects for reforming Islam. After this critical introduction of Islam, there follows an explanation and critique of Islam's policy for non-Muslims living under Islamic conditions. The doctrine of the three choices (conversion, the sword, or the dhimma pact of surrender to Islam) is explained, including an analysis of the meaning of tribute payments (jizya) made by non-Muslims (dhimmis) to their Muslim conquerors. Durie describes the impact of dhimmitude on the human rights of non-Muslims in Islamic contexts around the world today, in the light of global Islamic resurgence and advancing Islamization, including pressure being exerted through the United Nations for states to conform to sharia restrictions on freedom of speech. The worldview of dhimmitude, Durie argues, offers indispensable keys for understanding current trends in global politics, including the widening impact of sharia revival, deterioration of human rights in Islamic societies, jihad terrorism, recurring patterns of Western appeasement, interfaith dialogue initiatives, and the increasingly fraught relationship between migrant Muslim communities in the West and their host societies.

Book excerpt: This nonfiction book is a compare-contrast view on Christianity and Islam, detailing the similarities and differences in the two faiths through 850 researched reasons, provided by the author. The author brought to bear his quantitative and analytical mind (being a chartered accountant and auditor by profession) to give the world a classic in religious comparative study manual. "850 REASONS WHY WE MAKE OUR CHOICE," is a strong Christian apologetics and it is unique in style, in presentation and in reasoning. In it, the author seeks to expose both faiths to readers so, readers can decide on their own faith, but also shows the inconsistencies in the Islamic faith in accordance with central truths expressed in the Bible. The author's lengthy introduction (in Chapter One) is an appropriate way to approach the controversial topic and provides adequate information to readers so that their minds can ponder on the subject before reading the author's 850 reasons. The excerpts from the Bible and the Quran provided throughout the book will give helpful comparison opportunities to the readers to see the similarities and differences of the two texts. Some readers may not have ever read the Quran, so Quran text excerpts are necessary tools that will help readers stay involved in the book's discussion. Given the amount of information the author wants to give readers on the subject, the author provides interesting and insightful ways to display his knowledge of the faiths for the readers. Some examples include the A-Z list of reasons, questions for Muslims to answer and what each book of the Bible says about Jesus, all to keep readers motivated and engaged in the discussion with the summary of choices one may have to make after reading the book. The author earnestly urges Christians, Muslims and members of other religious bodies to read this thought-provoking book because they will definitely find the 850 reasons, prima-facie suitable for decision making towards their journey to eternal bliss. Thus, this book is a sine qua non to students of comparative religion, a resource material and morale booster to Christians/Muslims, as well as to everyone who sincerely desires to know the truth about the two faiths. Overall, the book is a unique view on the similarities and differences between Christianity and Islam. Readers will learn more about Islam while seeing the inconsistencies the faith has with Christianity today. It is, indeed, a 'must read.' .

Book Islam s Jesus

Download or read book Islam s Jesus written by Zeki Saritoprak and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Accessible and readable. Spotlights an important theological theme in a way that both illuminates its internal development in Islamic thought and presents it as a helpful basis for interreligious discussion. The topic is very much in need of teaching and discussion and is a fine example of ‘common ground.’”—John Renard, author of Islam and Christianity “Contains valuable and fascinating material about how classical Muslim theologians treated various aspects of Jesus and, in particular, the role of Jesus in Islamic eschatology. Saritoprak brings new insights from contemporary Turkish thinkers to bear on the issues raised by the Jesus figure in Islamic narratives about the Last Days.”—Marcia Hermansen, author of Shah Wali Allah’s Treatises on Islamic Law “A refreshingly easy read that makes a complex world of theology and interfaith relations accessible and enjoyable for readers of all backgrounds.”—Jonathan Brown, author of Hadith: Muhammad’s Legacy in the Medieval and Modern World Few people realize that Jesus was a prominent messenger of God in Islam and that Muslims believe in the return of Jesus. Even among Muslims, it is not well known that there are diverse interpretations of references to Jesus in the Qur’an and the Hadith. Aiming to remedy this, Islam’s Jesus takes a bold yet candid look at the highly charged topic of Jesus’s place in Islam, exploring some of the religion’s least understood aspects. Examining multiple intellectual traditions, Zeki Saritoprak makes clear the reality of pluralism in the history of Islamic religious scholarship. Actively engaged in efforts to promote interfaith dialogue and harmony, Saritoprak thoughtfully argues that the shared belief in Jesus presents an excellent opportunity for understanding between Muslims and Christians. Together, they constitute more than half of the world’s population, and such understanding may be a foundation for peace.

Book Fighting Hislam

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Muslim community that is portrayed to the West is a misogynist's playground; within the Muslim community, feminism is often regarded with sneering hostility. Yet between those two views there is a group of Muslim women many do not believe exists: a diverse bunch who fight sexism from within, as committed to the fight as they are to their faith. Hemmed in by Islamophobia and sexism, they fight against sexism with their minds, words and bodies. Often, their biggest weapon is their religion. Here, Carland talks with Muslim women about how they are making a stand for their sex, while holding fast to their faith. At a time when the media trumpets scandalous revelations about life for women from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, Muslim women are always spoken about and over, never with. In Fighting Hislam, that ends.

Book excerpt: This book contains a summary of The Bible The Quran and Science 2014 of Dr. Maurice Bucaille, The biography of prophet Muhammad (pbuh), An Islamic prayer book according to Quran and Sunnah, and last but not least is that this book also contains "The Qur'an & Modern Science: Compatible or Incompatible? 2014" by Dr. Zakir Naik and Mr.Faisal Fahim. This is an A to Z book on Islam, Quran, Bible, Torah, Science And it also includes the Islamic prayer book with a biography of the prophet. This book seeks to spiritually unite by highlighting similarities in the texts. It sheds new light and dispels many preconceived ideas in separating what belongs to Revelation from what is the product of error or human interpretation. (The Qur'an & Modern Science: Compatible or Incompatible?)Ever since the dawn of human life on this planet,Man has always sought to understand Nature, his own place in the scheme of Creation and the purpose of Life itself. In this quest for Truth, spanning many centuries and diverse civilizations, organized religion has shaped human life and determined to a large extent, the course of history. While some religions have been based on books, claimed by their adherents to be divinely inspired, others have relied solely on human experience. Al-Qur'an, the main source of the Islamic faith, is a book believed by Muslims, to be of completely Divine origin. Muslims also believe that it contains Divine guidance for all humankind. Since the message of the Qur'an is believed to be for all times, it should be relevant to every age. Does the Qur'an pass this test? In this booklet, I intend to give an objective analysis of the Muslim belief regarding the Divine origin of the Qur'an, in the light of established scientific discoveries. There was a time, in the history of world civilization, when 'miracles', or what was perceived to be a miracle, took precedence over human reason and logic. But how do we define the term 'miracle'? A miracle is anything that takes place out of the normal course of life and for which humankind has no explanation. However, we must be careful before we accept something as a miracle. An article in `The Times of India', Mumbai, in 1993 reported that 'a saint' by the name 'Baba Pilot' claimed to have stayed continuously submerged under water in a tank for three consecutive days and nights. However, when reporters wanted to examine the base of the tank of water where he claimed to have performed this 'miraculous' feat, he refused to let them do so. He argued by asking as to how one could examine the womb of a mother that gives birth to a child. The `Baba' was hiding something. It as a gimmick simply to gain publicity. THIS BOOK HAS MUCH MORE ADDED INFORMATION ON THE NEW DISCOVERIES OF SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION FOUND IN THE HOLY QURAN & THIS INFORMATION IS ARRANGED AND ORGANIZED BY AUTHOR MR.FAISAL FAHIM. THE LATEST INFORMATIONS ARE ALL ADDED IN 2014 REVEIWED BY FAISAL.Allah (swt) Says : "Invite to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Revelation and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided."[Quran 16:125]From author:To the people who loved reading & purchasing my book. Please share my book & tell others about it.And please write a positive review about my book on the website.I really appreciate it & thank you very much. Book Do Muslim Women Need Saving

Download or read book Do Muslim Women Need Saving written by Lila Abu-Lughod and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequent reports of honor killings, disfigurement, and sensational abuse have given rise to a consensus in the West, a message propagated by human rights groups and the media: Muslim women need to be rescued. Lila Abu-Lughod boldly challenges this conclusion. An anthropologist who has been writing about Arab women for thirty years, she delves into the predicaments of Muslim women today, questioning whether generalizations about Islamic culture can explain the hardships these women face and asking what motivates particular individuals and institutions to promote their rights. In recent years Abu-Lughod has struggled to reconcile the popular image of women victimized by Islam with the complex women she has known through her research in various communities in the Muslim world. Here, she renders that divide vivid by presenting detailed vignettes of the lives of ordinary Muslim women, and showing that the problem of gender inequality cannot be laid at the feet of religion alone. Poverty and authoritarianism—conditions not unique to the Islamic world, and produced out of global interconnections that implicate the West—are often more decisive. The standard Western vocabulary of oppression, choice, and freedom is too blunt to describe these women's lives. Do Muslim Women Need Saving? is an indictment of a mindset that has justified all manner of foreign interference, including military invasion, in the name of rescuing women from Islam—as well as a moving portrait of women's actual experiences, and of the contingencies with which they live.

Book Dreaming in Christianity and Islam

Download or read book Dreaming in Christianity and Islam written by Kelly Bulkeley and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history to the present day, religion has ideologically fueled wars, conquests, and persecutions. Christianity and Islam, the world's largest and geopolitically powerful faiths, are often positioned as mortal enemies locked in an apocalyptic "clash of civilizations." Rarely are similarities addressed. Dreaming in Christianity and Islam, the first book to explore dreaming in these religions through original essays, fills this void. The editors reach a plateau by focusing on how studying dreams reveals new aspects of social and political reality. International scholars document the impact of dreams on sacred texts, mystical experiences, therapeutic practices, and doctrinal controversies.
