Book excerpt: God, in His providence, has chosen a man through whom to transmit to the generations, the origin of life on this earth. Through Moses the fundamental history was revealed, about who we are, how we got here, why things are so bad and yet there is hope for regaining the original plan. All these are clearly found in the book of Genesis and form the root of our existence. Through Moses was revealed, the panorama of the great struggle between Satan and the Creator. Between Moses and John, the beloved disciple, about 38 authors wrote the word of God. Through John, we have the Revelation, showing the last events of the tragedy sin produced. If we move the complete report of Scripture aside, we will feel we are in the darkness of the many dogmas, traditions, myths, superstitions, non-Christian religions, or evolutionary theories that lack logic. The Christian is called to reason and to filter all that contradicts the divine source, the Bible. Therefore, in order to find an answer to the question on the front cover, "Is the soul immortal?" we will use this source. We have tens and even hundreds of references regarding this subject, which are often ignored. Its advocates are more willing to cut out from the Bible the innumerable clear declarations that the souls of humans are mortal than to give up an idea that comes from outside the Bible. It is true that people were created to live eternally. However, sin interfered with the condition for retaining immortality. For this reason, Plan B had to be set in motion. Through the death of the only One who has eternal life, a way of recovering immortality was opened. Life, time, and talents do not belong to us. They are the master's wealth. [ Matthew 25: 14,15 ] Limited portions are given to us. No one has received an unlimited number of talents. The Master first wanted to see what would be done with the talents given during this life. We cannot claim that we were given an immortal soul, when our lives, time, and talents are given to us temporarily. The way in which we use this short life, our members and given aptitudes will constitute the test required in order to receive eternal life. In order to obtain eternal life, a single thing is needed: "And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3).

Book Immortality Or Resurrection

Download or read book Immortality Or Resurrection written by Samuele Bacchiocchi and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Http://www.biblicalperspectives.com/books/immortality_resurrection/ What Christians believe about the make-up of their human nature largely determines what they believe about their ultimate destiny. Historically, most Christians have believed that human nature consists of a material, mortal body and a spiritual, immortal soul. This belief, known as dualism, is largely derived from Greek philosophers who regarded the body as temporary and evil but the soul as eternal and good. Dualism has led Christians to envision a destiny where immortal souls survive the death of the body and spend eternity either in the bliss of paradise or in the torment of a fiery hell. During the Middle Ages the belief in the afterlife was promoted through literary and artistic representations of hell as a place of absolute terror where the damned writhe and scream forever, and of paradise as a beatific place where the saints bask in eternal glory. Today, the belief in conscious existence after death is propagated through the polished image of mediums and psychics, the sophisticated "scientific" research into near-death experiences, and the popular New Age channeling with the alleged spirits of the past. These various methods are very successful in making people believe Satan's lie that no matter what they do, they "shall not die" (Gen 3:4) but become like gods by living for ever. The outcome is that according to a recent Gallup Poll 71 per cent of Americans believe in some forms of conscious life after death. In recent years the traditional dualistic view of human nature and destiny has come under massive attack by Biblical scholars, philosophers, and scientists who find such a view contrary to Scripture, reason, and science. In Immortality or Resurrection? Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi builds upon recent research and challenges Christians to recover the Biblical wholistic teaching that the body and soul are an indissoluble unit, created, redeemed, and ultimately restored by God. Immortality or Resurrection? is a most important book for today. With compelling Biblical reasoning, it unmasks the oldest and possibly the greatest deception of all time, namely, that human beings possess immortal souls that live on forever. It will help you understand how this deceptive teaching of innate immortality has fostered a whole spectrum of erroneous beliefs that have affected adversely Christian thought and practice. Most important of all, this book will increase your appreciation for God's glorious plan for your present life and future destiny.

Book Life After Death

Download or read book Life After Death written by William Landon and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THERE ARE FEW SUBJECTS IN HUMAN THOUGHT THAT RAISE SUCH STRONG EMOTIONS AS THE AFTERLIFE. What if anything, awaits us after we leave this physical world? Are we reincarnated to try to "get it right" through another life? Do we simply vanish? Do we enter some state of bliss or torment based on our good deeds or lack of them? It seems that there is no end of conjecture offered by human religion and philosophy on this subject. Yet, most of this seems to be nothing more than baseless speculation. As we have no evidence (indeed, we cannot have any physical evidence) of what becomes of us after our physical death, it appears that we have no choice but to pick the idea that is most appealing to us and go with it. It is true enough that we will ultimately pick the idea of the afterlife that we choose to believe to be correct, yet this is a matter of sufficiently great importance to warrant our choosing wisely. The source of information we choose to accept as the correct depiction of the afterlife is one of the most critical decisions we will ever make. While this will ultimately be a matter of belief, we owe it to ourselves to make our choice based on what these sources actually say and not on what we think they say or what others tell us they say. This book is presented as a look at the Bible's teaching on the subject of the afterlife and the choices available to us for an existence after this present life is over. The findings presented in this book are at considerable variance with the teachings of traditional institutional Christian church doctrine and dogma. It is the author's hope that the points presented here will give the reader a different perspective of the biblical view of life, death and afterlife.

Book The Resurrection of Immortality

Download or read book The Resurrection of Immortality written by Mark S. McLeod-Harrison and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If humans are not capable of immortality, then eschatological doctrines of heaven and hell make little sense. On that Christians agree. But not all Christians agree on whether humans are essentially immortal. Some hold that the early church was right to borrow from the ancient Greek philosophers and to bring their sense of immortality to bear on the interpretation of biblical passages about the afterlife. Others, however, suggest that we are inherently mortal, and only conditionally immortal. This latter view is usually associated with an annihilationist interpretation of the doctrine of hell and a rejection of eternal torment. In a philosophical analysis and argument, McLeod-Harrison proposes that humans are, indeed, immortal, but not essentially so. But neither are we immortal accidentally or conditionally. Instead, immortality is an enduring property--a property we cannot lose once created. McLeod-Harrison carefully delineates the sense of immortality he defends and provides a broadly Christian philosophical argument for it. The argument, if correct, leaves the recent suggestion that the unredeemed are annihilated on unsteady metaphysical feet. However, McLeod-Harrison does not defend eternal conscious punishment for the unredeemed, but suggests some ways to think about the possibility of a universal salvation.

Book excerpt: What do you believe about souls? There are many very different doctrines taught in the world today concerning souls that are believed to be in all humans. By most a soul is believed to be something that is wholly apart from the person a soul is in; that a soul is something that is that is believed to be complete in its self without the person; it will live after the person it is in is dead; it is believed that a soul will exist forever without the person; it will never be dead; therefore, a soul cannot be resurrected from the dead. It is believed that a soul must live someplace forever, and it will live either in Heaven or Hell even if there is no resurrection. The doctrine of unconditional immortality of a deathless soul being in a person, and that soul leaving that person at the death of the person makes it impossible for Christ to have give His life to save that soul from death; if a soul had immortality it would already have life and could never not have life; all Christ could do is give it a reward or punish it.
