Book excerpt: The relationship between organizational culture and organizational effectiveness has been the subject of much research by Daniel Denison. Much of this research has been conducted in developed countries where the environment is highly competitive, highly productive and the economies are stable. There has been the challenge however to determine if the findings of such research are relatively universally consistent. In this case the challenge is to determine if the findings hold in circumstances where the economies are less developed and more fragile than those previously studied. This research study is designed to examine the relationship between organizational culture and organizational effectiveness in circumstances typical of the English speaking Caribbean where the economies are weak and in some respects informal and to use these findings to compare with earlier findings from developed economies. The research study involves the administration of the Denison Organizational Culture Survey which was also used in the earlier studies, to persons engaged in the electronic media sector in the English-speaking Caribbean. This sector has the characteristic of competitiveness which is typical of other industries studied. The evidence points to a strong correlation between organizational effectiveness and all four of the Denison culture traits. The adaptability and the mission traits were identified as the more dominant and the organizations reflected an external focus. The results of the study indicate that notwithstanding the economic foundational differences, the findings hold true of a positive relationship between organizational culture and organizational effectiveness similar in extent to and in some cases stronger than earlier studies and as such provided support for the previous research findings.

Culture is ubiquitous, exists everywhere and has a significant influence. It affects not only the visible parts of individuals (behaviour and action) but also the invisible ones (beliefs and values). This complex interaction, which takes place on different levels, between individuals and groups within and with other organisations, can be seen as the primary determinant of behaviour in the workplace. The patterns of interaction between people and the external surroundings represent a complex environment which influences behaviour in organisations. Therefore, more and more managers are talking about changing their culture, creating a new culture, figuring out the impact of their culture, or preserving their culture. In this paper, the main focus is to define organizational culture and determine its influences on companies’ performance. Firstly, there are several related questions that will be discussed: What is organizational culture? What are the key elements of it? How is it formed and can it be managed to contribute to a firm’s performance? Secondly, we take a closer look at Google’s organizational culture and research, to discover whether there is a link between its culture and its performance. Finally, a conclusion is drawn about the culture-performance link and the difficulties associated with this topic.

So the goal of this research is the evaluation and analysis of psychological empowerment and their impact on organizational commitment (case study: Staff of Tax Administration of Sistan and Baluchestan). Research method is quantitative. Data collection is done by library and field studies. The results of this study indicate that there is a strong relationship between two main variables; it means that by increasing of employee's psychological empowerment of Tax Organization of Sistan and Baluchestan, We should see an increase in the level of commitment among employees of the organization.

Could differences in organisational culture be to blame? This dissertation examines the organisational culture perceived within BP's energy trading technology team known as Integrated Supply and Trading Digital Business (ISTDB). The focus is on the Strategy and Architecture team (S&A) who are responsible for assuring the long-term viability of technology delivered to the business by setting and enforcing technology standards with the technology delivery teams (Regional Businesses or RBs). S&A relies on influence and persuasion to build compliance with the standards as it does not have line management responsibility for the other teams. This research concludes the perception of organisational culture is different between S&A and the RBs, and that it is a cause of conflict. The research also identifies that perceived organisational culture in ISTDB technology team as a whole is non-cohesive and not well aligned with the BP business strategy.This is a suboptimal arrangement for value creation. The author recommends both short-term and long-term shifts in working practices to correct this imbalance. The changes include a new emphasis on communications, new personnel hiring procedures and cross-cultural awareness training.

When an organization attempts to achieve its proposed objectives, the lack of internal stability and environment threats may delay the process, or even worse destruct it unleashed. Several studies have been conducted in order to examine the underlying factors affecting the effectiveness of the organization, but as we are living in the age of knowledge and knowledge management today is the origin of any pursuit of competitive advantage, organizations have left with no choice but to identify factors influencing managing of their organizational knowledge. In fact, in an environment that supports and encourages knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, learning, structural development as well as applying knowledge in order to a benefit the organization and its customers, implementation of knowledge management sounds effective. In other words, knowledge management plays a role as a mean to overcome destructive components. This study mainly aims to investigate the relationship of organizational culture and organizational structure with organizational effectiveness, by taking an interest in examining the knowledge management as a moderating variable. For this purpose 131 company managers from Mashhad's Science and Technology Park were surveyed via a questionnaire with a Cronbach's alpha reliability measure equals to 0.93. In order to examine the proposed research hypotheses, Spearman Correlations, Multiple Linear Regression and Soble Test have been conducted. The findings suggest a significant relationship between organizational culture and organizational structure as well as organizational culture and effectiveness. Moreover, the moderating role of knowledge management in these relationships was supported by the research data.

The constructs were defined, conceptualized, and operationalized by the multicultural team of researchers. Second, the industries were selected through a polling of the country investigators, and the instruments were designed with the full participation of the researchers representing the different cultures. Finally, the data in each country were collected by investigators who were either natives of the cultures studied or had extensive knowledge and experience in that culture. A unique feature of this book is that while it is an edited book and many experts have written the different chapters, unlike other edited books, it is a fully integrated, seamless, and cohesive book covering the many aspects of the theory underpinning the GLOBE.
