Book Irradiation Effects in Low alloy Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels Heavy Section Steel Technology Program Series 4 and 5

Download or read book Irradiation Effects in Low alloy Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels Heavy Section Steel Technology Program Series 4 and 5 written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple testing is done at two laboratories of typical nuclear pressure vessel materials (both irradiated and unirradiated) and statistical analyses of the test results. Multiple tests are conducted at each of several test temperatures for each material, standard deviations are determined, and results from the two laboratories are compared. The Fourth Heavy-Section Steel Technology (HSST) Irradiation Series, almost completed, was aimed at elastic-plastic and fully plastic fracture toughness of low-copper weldments (current practice welds). A typical nuclear pressure vessel plate steel was included for statistical purposes. The Fifth HSST Irradiation Series, now in progress, is aimed at determining the shape of the K/sub IR/ curve after significant radiation-induced shift of the transition temperatures. This series includes irradiated test specimens of thicknesses up to 100 mm and weldment compositions typical of early nuclear power reactor pressure vessel welds.

Book Irradiation Embrittlement of Reactor Pressure Vessels RPVs in Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Irradiation Embrittlement of Reactor Pressure Vessels RPVs in Nuclear Power Plants written by Naoki Soneda and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactor Pressure Vessels (RPVs) contain the fuel and therefore the reaction at the heart of nuclear power plants. They are a life-determining structural component: if they suffer serious damage, the continued operation of the plant is in jeopardy. This book critically reviews irradiation embrittlement, the main degradation mechanism affecting RPV steels, and mitigation routes for managing the RPV lifetime. Part I reviews RPV design and fabrication in different countries, with an emphasis on the materials required, their important properties, and manufacturing technologies. Part II then considers RVP embrittlement in operational nuclear power plants using different reactors. Chapters are devoted to embrittlement in light-water reactors, including WWER-type reactors and Magnox reactors. Finally, Part III presents techniques for studying embrittlement, including irradiation simulation techniques, microstructural characterisation techniques, and probabilistic fracture mechanics. Irradiation Embrittlement of Reactor Pressure Vessels (RPVs) in Nuclear Power Plants provides a thorough review of an issue that is central to the safety of nuclear power generation. The book includes contributions from an international team of experts, and will be a useful resource for nuclear plant operators and managers, relevant regulatory and safety bodies, nuclear metallurgists and other academics in this field - Discusses reactor pressure vessel (RPV) design and the effect irradiation embrittlement can have, the main degradation mechanism affecting RPVs - Examines embrittlement processes in RPVs in different reactor types, as well as techniques for studying RPV embrittlement

Book Exploratory Test of 288 C Radiation Resistance of Two USSR Produced Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels

Download or read book Exploratory Test of 288 C Radiation Resistance of Two USSR Produced Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels written by MA. Sokolov and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of 288°C (550°F) irradiation to 1.0 x 1019 n/cm2, E > 1 MeV, on the Charpy V-notch ductilities of two USSR-produced forging materials were determined experimentally. The materials were provided by the Kurchatov Institute under the umbrella of a joint USA-USSR agreement and represent the Cr-Mo-V forgings employed in the construction of USSR light-water VVER-440 reactor pressure vessels (RPVs) before and after 1980, respectively. The primary difference between the two materials is phosphorus content (0.019% vs. 0.007% P) consistent with their respective USSR Steel Specifications 15Kh2MFA and 15Kh2MFA-A. Specimens for post-irradiation property determinations were irradiated in the Ford Nuclear Reactor in a controlled-temperature assembly at an average fluence rate of 5.6 x 1012 n/cm2-s, E > 1 MeV. The post-irradiation Charpy V-notch 41 J (30 ft-lb) transition temperature elevation for the material representing pre-1980 RPVs was 31°C (55°F). This elevation was accompanied by a 27% reduction in Charpy V-notch upper-shelf energy level. for the material representing the post-1980 RPVs, the transition temperature elevation was

Book Simulation of Irradiation Effects in Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels

Download or read book Simulation of Irradiation Effects in Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels written by S. Jumel and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Components of commercial nuclear reactors are subjected to neutron bombardments that can modify their mechanical properties. Prediction of in-service and post-service behaviors generally requires irradiation in so-called "test reactors" as well as subsequent mechanical testing in specialized hot cell facilities. However, the use of these research facilities is becoming more problematic, in particular due to increasing costs and decreasing availability. One way of partially mitigating these problems is to complement the empirical approach by developing tools for numerical simulation of irradiation effects in materials. The development of such tools is clearly an ambitious task that will require a long-term international collaborative effort.
