Book Extractive Metallurgy of Nickel Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals

Download or read book Extractive Metallurgy of Nickel Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals written by Frank Crundwell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-07-18 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and explains the methods by which three related ores and recyclables are made into high purity metals and chemicals, for materials processing. It focuses on present day processes and future developments rather than historical processes. Nickel, cobalt and platinum group metals are key elements for materials processing. They occur together in one book because they (i) map together on the periodic table (ii) occur together in many ores and (iii) are natural partners for further materials processing and materials manufacturing. They all are, for example, important catalysts – with platinum group metals being especially important for reducing car and truck emissions. Stainless steels and CoNiFe airplane engine super alloys are examples of practical usage. The product emphasises a sequential, building-block approach to the subject gained through the author’s previous writings (particularly Extractive Metallurgy of Copper in four editions) and extensive experience. Due to the multiple metals involved and because each metal originates in several types of ore – e.g. tropical ores and arctic ores this necessitates a multi-contributor work drawing from multiple networks and both engineering and science. Synthesizes detailed review of the fundamental chemistry and physics of extractive metallurgy with practical lessons from industrial consultancies at the leading international plants Discusses Nickel, Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals for the first time in one book Reviews extraction of multiple metals from the same tropical or arctic ore Industrial, international and multidisciplinary focus on current standards of production supports best practice use of industrial resources

Book The Physical Metallurgy of Cobalt base Superalloys

Download or read book The Physical Metallurgy of Cobalt base Superalloys written by H J Wagner and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed picture is presented of the physical and chemical phenomena that affect the behavior of cobalt-base superalloys. Solid-solution strengthening is obtained from the high-melting metallic elements molybdenum, tungsten, tantalum, and columbium. These elements also participate in precipitation reactions involving their carbides. Precipitation of intermetallic compounds such as Ni3Ti is an important process in cobalt alloys containing appreciable amounts of nickel and titanium. The relationships among microstructure, heat treatment, and mechanical properties of the important commercial alloys are considered, and whenever possible, explained on the basis of the physical and chem cal processes that occur. Book Electrochemistry for Materials Science

Download or read book Electrochemistry for Materials Science written by Walfried Plieth and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-01-08 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the principles of electrochemistry with a special emphasis on materials science. This book is clearly organized around the main topic areas comprising electrolytes, electrodes, development of the potential differences in combining electrolytes with electrodes, the electrochemical double layer, mass transport, and charge transfer, making the subject matter more accessible. In the second part, several important areas for materials science are described in more detail. These chapters bridge the gap between the introductory textbooks and the more specialized literature. They feature the electrodeposition of metals and alloys, electrochemistry of oxides and semiconductors, intrinsically conducting polymers, and aspects of nanotechnology with an emphasis on the codeposition of nanoparticles. This book provides a good introduction into electrochemistry for the graduate student. For the research student as well as for the advanced reader there is sufficient information on the basic problems in special chapters. The book is suitable for students and researchers in chemistry, physics, engineering, as well as materials science. - Introduction into electrochemistry- Metal and alloy electrodeposition- Oxides and semiconductors, corrosion- Intrinsically conducting polymers- Codeposition of nanoparticles, multilayers

Book Oxidation of Iron Nickel and Cobalt base Alloys

Download or read book Oxidation of Iron Nickel and Cobalt base Alloys written by I. G. Wright and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iron-, nickel-, and cobalt-base superalloys, starting from the compositions Fe-20Cr, Ni-20Cr, and Co-(20 to 25)Cr, have been developed along fundamentally different routes dictated mainly by differing compositional requirements in the search for increased high temperature strength. In Ni-Cr alloys, for example, chromium content has been decreased gradually, and the aluminum content increased to the extent that the alloys now are basically Ni-Cr-Al alloys. In the review current data relating to the oxidation of the relevant pure metals and their binary and ternary alloys are examined first, and then data on oxidation of the more complex engineering alloys are considered. The oxidizing atmosphere is assumed to be oxygen or air, but the mechanisms described generally are applicable to other oxidizing atmospheres. (Author).

Book Ferromagnetic Materials

Download or read book Ferromagnetic Materials written by E. P. Wohlfarth and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Volume 20 of the Handbook of Magnetic Materials, as the preceding volumes, has a dual purpose. As a textbook it is intended to help those who wish to be introduced to a given topic in the field of magnetism without the need to read the vast amount of literature published. As a work of reference it is intended for scientists active in magnetism research. To this dual purpose, Volume 20 is composed of topical review articles written by leading authorities. In each of these articles an extensive description is given in graphical as well as in tabular form, much emphasis being placed on the discussion of the experimental material in the framework of physics, chemistry and material science. It provides readers with novel trends and achievements in magnetism"--Publisher's note.
