Written from the viewpoint of physical chemistry, this authoritative and established text deals with the aqueous corrosion of metals. Available for the first time in English, Corrosion of Metal addressing engineers, metallurgists, physicists and chemists. This self-contained, valuable reference comprehensively organizes and makes readily accessible the accumulated wealth of fundamental and applied knowledge. The concentration is on the underlying essentials of corrosion and failure, and the material is consistently presented in relation to practical applications to corrosion protection. The first chapters introducing the physicochemical principles are ideal for students. The following chapters provide an overview of the state of research for those familiar with the fundamentals. An exhaustive bibliography and appendices conclude the volume.

Book Review of the Bureau of Reclamation s Corrosion Prevention Standards for Ductile Iron Pipe

Download or read book Review of the Bureau of Reclamation s Corrosion Prevention Standards for Ductile Iron Pipe written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-11-19 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ductile iron pipe (DIP) was introduced about 50 years ago as a more economical and better-performing product for water transmission and distribution. As with iron or steel pipes, DIP is subject to corrosion, the rate of which depends on the environment in which the pipe is placed. Corrosion mitigation protocols are employed to slow the corrosion process to an acceptable rate for the application. When to use corrosion mitigation systems, and which system, depends on the corrosivity of the soils in which the pipeline is buried. The Bureau of Reclamation's specification for DIP in highly corrosive soil has been contested by some as an overly stringent requirement, necessitating the pipe to be modified from its as-manufactured state and thereby adding unnecessary cost to a pipeline system. This book evaluates the specifications in question and presents findings and recommendations. Specifically, the authoring committee answers the following questions: Does polyethylene encasement with cathodic protection work on ductile iron pipe installed in highly corrosive soils? Will polyethylene encasement and cathodic protection reliably provide a minimum service life of 50 years? What possible alternative corrosion mitigation methods for DIP would provide a service life of 50 years?

Book Steel Corrosion and Degradation of its Mechanical Properties

Download or read book Steel Corrosion and Degradation of its Mechanical Properties written by Chun-Qing Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state-of-the-art-knowledge on corrosion of steel, cast iron and ductile iron with a focus on corrosion-induced degradation of their mechanical properties. The information presented in the book is largely derived from the most current research on the effect of corrosion on degradation of mechanical properties. The book covers the basics of steel corrosion, including that of cast iron and ductile iron, that are not well covered in most literature. Models for corrosion-induced degradation of mechanical properties are presented in the book with a view to wider applications. The knowledge presented in the book can be used to prevent corrosion-induced failures of corrosion-affected structures, offering enormous benefits to the industry, business, society and community. Key strengths of the book are that it can be employed by a variety of users for different purposes in designing and assessing corrosion-affected structures, and that the knowledge and techniques presented in the book can be easily applied by users in dealing with corrosion-affected structures, and the uniqueness in examining the corrosion effect on degradation of various mechanical properties. Wtih examples of practical applications, the book is particularly useful for all stakeholders involved in steel manufacturing and construction, including engineering students, academicians, researchers, practitioners and asset managers.

Book Handbook of Corrosion Data

Download or read book Handbook of Corrosion Data written by Bruce D. Craig and published by ASM International. This book was released on 1994-12-31 with total page 1026 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes it easy for you to find what effect environment has on the corrosion of metals and alloys. However, this volume offers information on additional environments including concrete, soil, groundwater, distilled water, sodium acetate and more. ThereAs also updated and expanded coverage of previously discussed environments as well as information on environments which deal with the dairy, food, brewing, aerospace, petrochemical and building industries. The environments are listed alphabetically. Each listing includes a general description of the conditions, a comment on the corrosion characteristics of various alloys in such a situation, a bibliography of recent articles specific to the environment, tables consolidating and comparing corrosion rates at various temperatures and concentrations for various alloys, and graphical information. Also included are summaries on the general corrosion characteristics of major metals and alloys.

Book Prevention of Metal Corrosion

Download or read book Prevention of Metal Corrosion written by Magdalena Nuñez and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemistry is the branch of chemistry that deals with the chemical action of electricity and the production of electricity by chemical reactions. In a world short of energy sources yet long on energy use, electrochemistry is a critical component of the mix necessary to keep the world economies growing. Electrochemistry is involved with such important applications as batteries, fuel cells, corrosion studies, hydrogen energy conversion, bioelectricity. Research on electrolytes, cells, and electrodes is within the scope of this old but extremely dynamic field. This volume deals with prevention of metal corrosion.

Book Corrosion for Everybody

Download or read book Corrosion for Everybody written by Alec Groysman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-21 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People seldom enjoy corrosion. They usually perceive it as a nasty phenomenon with which they must cope. Yet many people, far from the corrosion field, come across it because of their professional duty. Lawyers, historians, doctors, architects, philosophers, artists, and archeologists, to name a few, may want or need to understand the principles of corrosion. This volume explains this important topic in a lucid, interesting, and popular form to everybody: to students and young engineers who are only beginning their studies, to scientists and engineers who have dealt with corrosion for many years, and to non-specialists involved in corrosion problems. The book uses a fresh writing style, with some new explanations relating to thermodynamics of oxidation of iron and mild steels in water, reversible and irreversible potential, solubility of oxygen in water and aqueous solutions of electrolytes, corrosion of metals in fuels, corrosion of storage tanks for fuels and their corrosion control, corrosion monitoring in practice, humanitarian aspects of corrosion science and technology (history of the evolution of knowledge about corrosion, relationships between corrosion and philosophy, corrosion and art). Many practical examples of various corrosion phenomena are given.
