In so doing, radio stations created a new market of borderlands consumers and worked both within and outside the constraints of Mexican and U.S. laws. Historian Sonia Robles examines the transnational business practices of Mexican radio entrepreneurs between the Golden Age of radio and the early years of television history. Intersecting Mexican history and diaspora studies with communications studies, this book explains how Mexican radio entrepreneurs targeted the Mexican population in the United States decades before U.S. advertising agencies realized the value of the Spanish-language market. Robles’s robust transnational research weaves together histories of technology, performance, entrepreneurship, and business into a single story. Examining the programming of northern Mexican commercial radio stations, the book shows how radio stations from Tijuana to Matamoros courted Spanish-language listeners in the U.S. Southwest and local Mexican audiences between 1930 and 1950. Robles deftly demonstrates Mexico’s role in creating the borderlands, adding texture and depth to the story. There is no possible resurrection after that fact,and our main character is hospitalized in a quirky mental sanatorioum in Spain, where the sons and daughters of well to do in Latin American families, as well as of the Spanish bourgeois, are hospitalized with the hope of some miraculous cure of their mental illness from which they will continue to suffer in the clinic, year after year, in the hallways and the rooms of the Esquerdo The characters that inhabit these halls of the asylum are markedly interesting in their contorted psychologies, in their delusional systems, in the inventions of the imaginations that lead them somewhere that they do not remotely expect: the end of their shadows past the gray walls, the corridors they follow going nowhere through the center of the despair of their schizophrenias: the end of their delusions that do not provide with a way out. The writer has gotten his material for the novel from his own experience as he walked these corridors, and the streets that appear in the narrative; and of course from the experience of mental illness. One more important aspect of the narrative: The narrator find himself in the streets of Miami Beach throughout the novel, from where he recollects the thirty years past when the remembrances from the sanatorium took place. The world is going to end, like it happens in the end of every millennium, and a new imperator comes to MB to witnesses the executions of the insane.

A partir de ese momento, la vida en El Encanto ya no será la misma. Muchos, al igual que Gabino y Gervasio, creen que Epifanio tiene pactos con el demonio. Y el par de campesinos tienen razones de sobra para pensar así. Sin embargo, ambos se dan cuenta que el cacique no es el mito que todos creían. Así, poco a poco, Gabino y su inseparable amigo con la ayuda de la familia Ruvalcaba, descorren el velo que mantuvo por tanto tiempo postrado al poblado.

Usé mi deseo de propulsar mi determinación de vencer esta enfermedad. Y tú también puedes. Conoce lo que hice, y cómo lo hice. El propósito de este libro es el de compartir experiencias con otras personas las cosas exactas que hice, y cómo las hice. Enciende una llama en tu interior y usa esa llama para hacer algo positivo. ¡Hoy en día, mis Doctores están sorprendidos al descubrir que tengo el hígado de un veinteañero!
