Book excerpt: This book examines the motivation behind the regime's political and economic strategy by considering three areas: terrorism including in Europe and the United States, incitement of regional conflicts, and the ballistic missile threat. Failing to quell growing popular protests against their rule, the mullahs have opted to bolster domestic suppression with blatant terrorism and intimidation, particularly against opponents. The strategy revolves around terrorism and physical annihilation of opponents. It is perceived to be so vital to the regime's longevity that its officials are willing to risk serious international diplomatic backlash and resources in Europe in a bid to deal a devastating blow to the organized opposition. For the first time in its history, a regime diplomat in Tehran's embassy in Austria has been caught red- handed directing a bombing operation on European soil, i.e., at a major opposition rally in Paris on June 30, 2018. The August 2018 foiled plot in the United States is another indication that the regime is willing to take high risks even within the United States to deliver blows to the members of the main Iranian opposition movement which has been very effective in undermining the regime inside Iran as well as exposing it abroad. The manuscript discusses how all decisions on terrorist attacks abroad, particularly those targeting Iranian dissidents, are made at the highest levels of the Iranian regime. Such sensitive and sophisticated operations require high levels of intelligence, coordination, logistics, and operational skills, as well as the political and diplomatic cover terrorist operatives need. As such the book identifies and elaborates on the key decision-making and executive agencies involved for terrorist operations. Tehran has escalated its policies of warmongering and meddling in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon, including terrorist training camps run by the Qods Force, the extraterritorial arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The mullahs' regime has funneled billions of dollars to finance its belligerent war agenda in the Middle East while the majority of Iran's people are living in poverty. Tehran is setting up the necessary facilities and equipment for missiles development and launch capabilities. Moreover, it does not just fire missiles into regional countries in pursuit of war; it also exports the necessary missile technology and constructs missile factories outside Iran's borders. This export of missiles to Yemen and elsewhere contravenes UN Security Council resolutions. This book includes a list of major Iran sponsored terror operations in 2017 and 2018 in Europe and the United States, as well as organizational charts for the Aerospace Industries Organization as well as Aerospace Force of the IRGC.

Book excerpt: Iran's Emissaries of Terror explains the extent to which Tehran's embassies and diplomats are at the core of both the planning and execution of international terrorism targeting Iranian dissidents, as well as central to Tehran's direct and proxy terrorism against other countries. To this end, Tehran's embassies and consulates serve as hubs, while its diplomats act as controllers and operatives. Year 2018 witnessed a marked surge in Tehran's terror and espionage plots and operations on the Western soil, from the United States, to France and Albania. Thankfully, these terror plots were neutralized, but they served as a wakeup call for Europe and the U.S. The escalation of terrorist acts in 2018 targeting the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as Mujahedin-e-Khalq-Iran (MEK), and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) coalition to which it belongs, is directly linked to its role in the broad-based revolt in Iran's streets. It also makes the case that, as a follow up to the long-overdue designation of the IRGC as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), MOIS be similarly designated by the U.S., and blacklisted by Europe; Iran's terrorist-diplomats be expelled; and the agents of its intelligence services be prosecuted and/or expelled from the U.S. and Europe. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Minster occupy one chapter of this book to show the full cooperation of this agency in all terror operations in Europe over the past three decades. In 2018 alone, under Mohammad Javad Zarif's stewardship of the Foreign Ministry, five diplomats have been expelled from three European countries, including regime's ambassador to Albania, who was expelled in December 2019 for his role in masterminding a truck- bombing terror plot. Another senior diplomat is in a Belgian jail awaiting trial. A dozen agents, who were directed and funded by the embassies and were all involved in terror plots, are also in jail. This book comes in seven chapters and contains dozens of pictures, graphs, and charts, as well as 164 endnote, and is a well-documented source for examining the terror apparatus of the Iranian regime.

Talal Mohammad, who is fluent in both Arabic and Persian, examines Saudi-Iranian rivalry using discourse analysis of these religious, political and journalistic sources. Tracing what has been produced since 1979 in parallel, he argues for a consistent pattern of mutual misrepresentation, whereby each frames its counterpart as the 'Other' to which a specific political agenda can be justified and advanced. The book covers key events including the Iranian Revolution, the invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the Taliban war, the fall of Saddam, the Arab Spring, the rise of Mohammed bin Salman, and the war on ISIS. While until now Saudi-Iranian rivalry has been understood in primarily sectarian or geopolitical terms, the author argues here that the discursive othering serves as a propagandist function that supports more fundamental political and geopolitical considerations.
