It savors of malevolence to be always finding fault, so let us look at both of these systems with the utmost candor. The friends and advocates of the box churn point first to the difference in the cost of the two kinds of implements. From the published list of the makers we find that a 300_gallon box churn costs $36, and a Mason power worker with guard costs $41.75. The Mason worker without guard costs $37.50. Taking the 300-gallon box churn at $36, and the Mason power worker with the guard at $41.75, we have the box churn and Mason worker at a total cost of $77.75. The No. 4 Disbrow combined, which is also listed as a 300_gallon churn, sells for $155. This gives us $77.25 in favor of the-box churn and Mason worker, or a saving of about 100 per cent in the first cost. A 400_gallon box churn costs $42, and together with a Mason worker we have a combined cost of a 400_gallon box churn and worker of $83.75. We do not find 'a 400_gallon combined churn listed, but we find a 375-gallon Disbrow listed at $l70. This gives us $86.25, or, 103 per cent, in favor of the box churn and Mason worker. In other words, after having bought a 400_gallon box churn and a Mason power worker with guard, we have $86. 25 left, over and above what we can buy a 375_gallon combined churn for. To be sure part of this $86.25 will go to buy extra shafting, belt, and pulley for the Mason worker, but. nevertheless there will be some left, and I think the advocates of the box churn have cause for usingthis point in their favor.
