Book Ionospheric Prediction and Forecasting

Download or read book Ionospheric Prediction and Forecasting written by Bruno Zolesi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-25 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how to predict and forecast the state of planet Earth’s ionosphere under quiet and disturbed conditions in terms of dynamical processes in the weakly ionized plasma media of the upper atmosphere and their relation to available modern measurements and modelling techniques. It explains the close relationship between the state of the media and the radio wave propagation conditions via this media. The prediction and forecasting algorithms, methods and models are oriented towards providing a practical approach to ionospherically dependent systems design and engineering. Proper understanding of the ionosphere is of fundamental practical importance because it is an essential part of telecommunication and navigation systems that use the ionosphere to function or would function much better in its nonappearance on the Earth and on any planet with an atmosphere.

Book Numerical Prediction of Ionospheric Characteristics

Download or read book Numerical Prediction of Ionospheric Characteristics written by William B. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical methods are developed for producing worldwide, long-term predictions of ionospheric characteristics. The methods are based on analyses of series of coefficients defining numerical maps, which take into account both annual and solar cycle variations of the ionosphere. The end product is a five-dimensional numerical map depending on two geographic coordinates, time of day (universal time), time of year, and solar index. Predicted numerical maps in geographical and universal time coordinates are obtained by specifying the month and a predicted value of solar index. The methods are applied to foF2 monthly medians, using for the analysis a series of 60 numerical maps from January 1954 through December 1958, Predicted and observed values of the characteristics are compared for a large sample of data.

Book The Prediction of Ionospheric Conditions

Download or read book The Prediction of Ionospheric Conditions written by G.S. Ivanov-Kholodny and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ionosphere of the Earth has been actively studied since the 1920's, following the discovery of ground radio-sounding. By means of this method results were ohtained by an international network of ionospheric stations, in particular, by the successful implementation of a number of rigorously planned international scientific research programs,'" enabling the collection of extensive experimental material on some of the most important parameters of the ionosphere - the critical freLjuencies of E-, Fl and F2-layers. Comprehensive analyses of these observation data give a fairly complete picture of the various changes taking place in the principal ionospheric layers at different points on our globe. Another important aspect of the study of the ionosphere, which has been in progress for the past three decades, is an extensive program of in situ determinations of the various physical parameters - first using rockets, and subsequently artificial satellites. The data thus obtained on the principal ionizing agent - short-wave solar radiation - and on the physical conditions prevailing in the upper atmosphere and in the ionosphere at different altitudes, allow the proposal of a self-consistent mechanism of ionosphere formation. A general outline of the theory of ionosphere formation at different altitudes is now complete. Its application to specific cases, dependent on a more accurate determination of input parameters to give solutions valid for a definite set of conditions etc., is yet to be accomplished. The use of artificial satellites in cosmic research yielded abundant scientific data.

Book Improving the Global Ionospheric Predictions of F0F2

Download or read book Improving the Global Ionospheric Predictions of F0F2 written by B. S. Dandekar and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the method of Rush and Gibbs (1973), weighted means of observed values have been used to update the global prediction of f(o)F2, which are based on monthly median values derived from the Institute of Telecommunications Sciences model (1969). This procedure improved the predictions for magnetically quiet periods, for times near minimum of the solar cycle phase, and for the equinoctial months. Furthermore, a closer grid of ionosonde stations resulted in reducing the error in the f(o)F2 prediction. For the method of Rush and Gibbs (1973) to be operationally successful in global predictions of f(o)F2 however, a closer grid of ionosondes than is presently available is needed. (Author).

Book Ionospheric Precursors of Earthquakes

Download or read book Ionospheric Precursors of Earthquakes written by Sergey Pulinets and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-08-31 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book aims to explain the variations of near-Earth plasma observed over seismically active areas several days/hours before strong seismic shocks. It demonstrates how seismo-ionospheric coupling is part of the global electric circuit and shows that the anomalous electric field appearing in active seismic areas is the main carrier of information from the earth into the ionosphere. The discussion of physical mechanisms is based on experimental data. The results can be regarded as the basis for future applications such as short-term earthquake prediction. It proceeds to describe existing complex systems of space-born and ground-based monitoring for electromagnetic and ionospheric precursors of earthquakes, as well as those still under construction. It is an excellent text for courses and contains a wealth of information for those scientists working in the field of natural disaster reduction.

This book was released on 1968 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main features of ionospheric-geomagnetic storms and their probable causes are reviewed. Disturbances in short-wave radio propagation during such storms are discussed. The principles of short-term prediction of ionospheric-geomagnetic storms are summarized and all kinds of Izmiran's forecasts are described. The application of these forecasts and current ionospheric data to calculation of usable radio propagation frequencies is explained. This Manualiis of interest to radio-communication operators as well as to geophysicists dealing with this field of science.

Book Predicting the Day to day Variability of the Mid latitude Ionosphere for Application to HF Propagation Predictions

Download or read book Predicting the Day to day Variability of the Mid latitude Ionosphere for Application to HF Propagation Predictions written by Charles M. Rush and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hourly values of ground-based ionosonde data have been subjected to a detailed statistical analysis in order to determine the day-to-day variability displayed by various ionospheric regions. It is found that the standard deviation about the observed F2 region monthly median critical frequency is two to three times that observed in the E and F1 regions at mid-latitudes. The day- to-day variability of foE and foF1 is such that monthly median values of those parameters can be used to represent the daily variation in the E and F1 region. This would imply that HF prediction programs which rely on median data for specification of the ionosphere yield results that can be used in day-to-day operations for those propagation modes that are controlled by the E and F1 region. As the F2 region is highly variable, a method of using timely observations of foF2 to predict the expected values of the F2 region critical frequency has been developed. The method has the advantage that errors in predicting the monthly median foF2 can be averted and the predicted values are generally closer to the actual observations than the observed monthly median.
