Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 8, ICFAI IBS Business School Hyderabad, course: MBA, language: English, abstract: Mutual Fund industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India, with so many investment options around giving an investor a wide range of choices to invest into. It offers a specialized service where the funds of the investors are professionally managed by the fund managers with various schemes offering all kinds of investors a product of their choice. This industry is in the growth phase and has a long way to go, but at present the bigger avenues from where the investments come have saturated like the large corporate companies. Factor Analysis affirmed that the investment pattern of Kolkata based Corporate and institutional investors in Mutual Funds depend on the six factors. They are Profitability Factor, Market Fluctuation Factor, Security Factor, Risk Orientation in Fund Decision, Awareness of Mutual Fund, and Performance of Mutual Funds. The survey also stated that the institutional investors are more interested in maintaining their portfolios for at least a month or more. The awareness of institutional investors regarding Mutual Funds is low which is indicated by the fact that still 48 percent of investors invest in Bank FDs which has a greater tax on income as compared to Mutual Fund returns. The survey clearly indicates that the institutional investors are majorly influenced by the agents and brokers when it comes on to decided which Mutual Fund to invest in.

Book Mutual Funds in India

Download or read book Mutual Funds in India written by D. V. Ingle and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mutual funds are very popular all over the world and they play an important role in the financial system of many countries. Mutual funds are an ideal medium for small investors. Mutual funds pool together the investments of small investors for participation in the stock market. Being institutional investors, mutual funds can afford market analysis generally not available to individual investors. Furthermore, mutual funds can diversify the portfolio in a better way as compared to individual investors, due to the expertise and availability of funds. Mutual funds in India were first created in 1963 when the Unit Trust of India (UTI), a state-sponsored entity, came into being. Until 1987, UTI was the only mutual fund in the country. Between 1987 and 1993, other entities belonging to the public sector were permitted to offer mutual funds (basically state-controlled banks and insurers). As part of financial sector reforms, the mutual fund industry was opened to the private sector in 1993. Private sector organizations were permitted to enter the market and the first mutual fund regulations were promulgated, which were subsequently replaced by the SEBI (Mutual Fund) Regulations of 1996. These private sector organizations comprised both Indian and foreign joint ventures, as well as purely Indian firms. This book provides an in-depth account of the functioning of the mutual fund industry in India.

Book Indian Financial Sector

Download or read book Indian Financial Sector written by Rakesh Mohan and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-01-20 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper traces the story of Indian financial sector over the period 1950–2015. In identifying the trends and turns of Indian financial sector, the paper adopts a three period classification viz., (a) the 1950s and 1960s, which exhibited some elements of instability associated with laissez faire but underdeveloped banking; (b) the 1970s and 1980s that experienced the process of financial development across the country under government auspices, accompanied by a degree of financial repression; and (c) the period since the 1990s till date, that has been characterized by gradual and calibrated financial deepening and liberalization. Focusing more the third period, the paper argues that as a consequence of successive reforms over the past 25 years, there has been significant progress in making interest and exchange rates largely market determined, though the exchange rate regime remains one of managed float, and some interest rates remain administered. Considerable competition has been introduced in the banking sector through new private sector banks, but public sector banks continue have a dominant share in the market. Contractual savings systems have been improved, but pension funds in India are still in their infancy. Similarly, despite the introduction of new private sector insurance companies coverage of insurance can expand much further, which would also provide greater depth to the financial markets. The extent of development along all the segments of the financial market has not been uniform. While the equity market is quite developed, activities in the private debt market are predominantly confined to private placement form and continue to be limited to the bluechip companies. Going forward, the future areas for development in the Indian financial sector would include further reduction of public ownership in banks and insurance companies, expansion of the contractual savings system through more rapid expansion of the insurance and pension systems, greater spread of mutual funds, and development of institutional investors. It is only then that both the equity and debt markets will display greater breadth as well as depth, along with greater domestic liquidity. At the same time, while reforming the financial sector, the Indian authorities had to constantly keep the issues of equity and efficiency in mind.

Book The Origins and Development of Financial Markets and Institutions

Download or read book The Origins and Development of Financial Markets and Institutions written by Jeremy Atack and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-03-16 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collectively, mankind has never had it so good despite periodic economic crises of which the current sub-prime crisis is merely the latest example. Much of this success is attributable to the increasing efficiency of the world's financial institutions as finance has proved to be one of the most important causal factors in economic performance. In a series of insightful essays, financial and economic historians examine how financial innovations from the seventeenth century to the present have continually challenged established institutional arrangements, forcing change and adaptation by governments, financial intermediaries, and financial markets. Where these have been successful, wealth creation and growth have followed. When they failed, growth slowed and sometimes economic decline has followed. These essays illustrate the difficulties of co-ordinating financial innovations in order to sustain their benefits for the wider economy, a theme that will be of interest to policy makers as well as economic historians.

Book Evaluation of Corporate Governance practices at the Namibian Government Institutions Pension Fund GIPF

Download or read book Evaluation of Corporate Governance practices at the Namibian Government Institutions Pension Fund GIPF written by Joseph Ilonga and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-11-23 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , language: English, abstract: This evaluation of Corporate Governance practices at the Namibian Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) is a qualitative single case study. The study utilized both primary and secondary data to answer the question whether GIPF was in compliance with the criteria relating to audit the committee, governance of risk as well internal audit functions as guided by the Namibia Code for Corporate Governance (NamCode). The study concluded that overall, the Government Institutions Pension Fund is indeed complying with the majority of the aspects assessed regarding requirements for audit The committee, governance of risks as well as internal audit functions. It appears that in some cases, the company complies with certain criteria how it is being documented may not be exactly how it is guided by the governance framework as stipulated in the NamCode. In most cases, where the study finds the company to be partially in compliance as opposed to full compliance, it is a question of the style used by the company in documenting how they are applying their corporate governance framework. Considering that only three out of nine principles of corporate were assessed; it is important to document that the survey only provide a snapshot of GIPF compliance to the governance framework and conclusions of this study cannot be taken as a complete view in any way. The study recommends that the company conform to the style of documenting their application of corporate governance principles to that of the governance framework provided for in NamCode. The adjustment is very important as it will help in ensuring consistency and standards especially when studies of this nature are to be conducted again. Finally, the study recommends that assessment of all nine principles of corporate governance be conducted preferably on an annual basis if GIPF is to keep in touch with the reality in as far as how they are doing regarding compliance.
