Book Investigation of Rare Earth doped Barium Titanate Thin Films and Their Optical Properties

Download or read book Investigation of Rare Earth doped Barium Titanate Thin Films and Their Optical Properties written by Andrew R. Teren and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ridge waveguides were fabricated using the Er:BaTiO3 films doped with approximately 1 at.% Er. Pump/probe measurements showed stimulated emission resulted in a 2.4 dB reduction in the 1,540 nm absorption. It was concluded that to achieve net optical gain, the background losses need to be further reduced.

Book Optical Properties of Rare Earth Doped Barium Titanate Thin Films Prepared by Metalorganic Vapor Deposition

Download or read book Optical Properties of Rare Earth Doped Barium Titanate Thin Films Prepared by Metalorganic Vapor Deposition written by Bruce A. Block and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The microstructure of the $\rm BaTiO\sb3$ films was investigated. The surface roughness generally increased with thickness, and the films were composed of many small subgrains, 0.1 to 0.3 microns in diameter. Grain boundary grooving was responsible for the observed surface roughening. Deposition of the metalorganic precursor on the substrate prior to the initiation of growth also contributed greatly to the surface roughness.

Book Investigation of Ferroelectric Domain Structure and Nonlinear Optical Properties in Barium Titanate Epitaxial Thin Films

Download or read book Investigation of Ferroelectric Domain Structure and Nonlinear Optical Properties in Barium Titanate Epitaxial Thin Films written by David J. Towner and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ferroelectric material barium titanate exhibits exceptional electro-optic and dielectric properties, making it desirable for electro-optic applications, especially in thin film form. The effective nonlinear optical and dielectric properties of BaTiO3 films are determined by the ferroelectric domain structure. The ferroelectric domain structures of epitaxial BaTiO3 films on MgO (100) substrates were investigated using x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning probe microscopy (SPM), and second harmonic generation (SHG) techniques.

Book Ferroelectrics Literature Index

Download or read book Ferroelectrics Literature Index written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on ferroelectricity and ferroelectric materials started in 1920 with the discovery by Valasek that the variation of spontaneous polarization in Rochelle salt with sign and magnitude of an applied electric field traced a complete and reproducible hysteresis loop. Activity in the field was sporadic until 1935, when Busch and co-workers announced the observation of similar behavior in potassium dihydrogen phosphate and related compounds. Progress thereafter continued at a modest level with the undertaking of some theoretical as well as further experimental studies. In 1944, von Hippel and co-workers discovered ferroelectricity in barium titanate. The technological importance of ceramic barium titanate and other perovskites led to an upsurge of interest, with many new ferroelectrics being identified in the following decade. By 1967, about 2000 papers on various aspects of ferroelectricity had been published. The bulk of this widely dispersed literature was concerned with the experimental measurement of dielectric, crystallographic, thermal, electromechanical, elastic, optical, and magnetic properties. A critical and excellently organized cpmpilation based on these data appeared in 1969 with the publica tion of Landolt-Bornstein, Volume 111/3. This superb tabulation gave instant access to the results in the literature on nearly 450 pure substances and solid solutions of ferroelectric and antiferroelectric materials. Continuing interest in ferroelectrics, spurred by the growing importance of electrooptic crystals, resulted in the publication of almost as many additional papers by the end of 1969 as had been surveyed in Landolt-Bornstein.

Book Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity

Download or read book Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a joint effort of the Research Materials Information Center (RMIC) of the Solid State Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Libraries and Information Systems Center at Bell Telephone Laboratories (BTL) Murray Hill, N. J. The Research Materials Information Center has, since 1963, been answering inquiries on the avail ability, preparation, and properties of inorganic solid-state research materials. The preparation of bibliographies has been essential to this function, and the interest in ferroelectrics led to the compila tion of the journal and report literature on that subject. The 1962 book Ferroelectric Crystals, by Jona and Shirane, was taken as a cutoff point, and all papers through mid-1969 received by the Center have been included. The Libraries and Information Systems Center of BTL has, over a period of years, developed a proprie tary package of computer programs called BELDEX, which formats and generates indexes to biblio graphic material. This group therefore undertook to process RMIC's ferroelectric references by BELDEX so that both laboratories could have the benefit of an indexed basic bibliography in this important research area.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ferroelectric materials exhibit a wide spectrum of functional properties, including switchable polarization, piezoelectricity, high non-linear optical activity, pyroelectricity, and non-linear dielectric behaviour. These properties are crucial for application in electronic devices such as sensors, microactuators, infrared detectors, microwave phase filters and, non-volatile memories. This unique combination of properties of ferroelectric materials has attracted researchers and engineers for a long time. This book reviews a wide range of diverse topics related to the phenomenon of ferroelectricity (in the bulk as well as thin film form) and provides a forum for scientists, engineers, and students working in this field. The present book containing 24 chapters is a result of contributions of experts from international scientific community working in different aspects of ferroelectricity related to experimental and theoretical work aimed at the understanding of ferroelectricity and their utilization in devices. It provides an up-to-date insightful coverage to the recent advances in the synthesis, characterization, functional properties and potential device applications in specialized areas.

Book excerpt: By browsing about 10 000 000 scientific articles of over 200 major journals mainly in a 'cover to cover approach' some 200 000 publications were selected. The extracted data is part of the following fundamental material research fields: crystal structures (S), phase diagrams (also called constitution) (C) and the comprehensive field of intrinsic physical properties (P). This work has been done systematically starting with the literature going back to 1900. The above mentioned research field codes (S, C, P) as well as the chemical systems investigated in each publication were included in the present work. The aim of the Inorganic Substances Bibliography is to provide researchers with a comprehensive compilation of all up to now published scientific publications on inorganic systems in only three handy volumes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rare earth elements have significant physical and chemical properties, which have been made indispensable in many magnetic, electronic, and optical applications. For instance, rare earth magnets have high magnetic intensity that can be retained at high temperatures, making them ideal for aerospace applications. Moreover, rare earth elements allow to fabricate faster, smaller, and lighter devices such as cell phones and hard drives. They are also important for in-ear headphones, microphones, loudspeakers, optical fibers, smartphones, and tablet computers. All these technological possibilities have made sure that the rare earth elements are part of the daily life. Therefore, this book has a main objective to let the readers know useful information about the rare earth elements that possibly allow development of the researches in different fields of science where the rare earth elements are used.
