Book Passive Solar Energy in Buildings

Download or read book Passive Solar Energy in Buildings written by P. O'Sullivan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report indicates that the benefits that accrue to a building and its occupants from a consideration of solar radiation are greatest when the 'passive solar component' is seen in perspective, as a natural part of an integrated approach to climatically interactive low-energy building design.

Book Passive Solar Commercial and Institutional Buildings

Download or read book Passive Solar Commercial and Institutional Buildings written by Robert Hastings and published by . This book was released on 1994-04-05 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference work encourages the design of buildings which are adapted to certain climates. The buildings presented as examples are designed for a future when non-renewable resources are scarce and expensive, and solar energy is valued for its environmen

Download or read book Passive Solar Buildings written by J. Douglas Balcomb and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes developments in passive solar technology that will save time, energy, and resources in planning for the buildings of the future. This companion to Passive Cooling and Solar Building Architecture (volumes 8 and 9) describes developments in passive solar technology that will save time, energy, and resources in planning for the buildings of the future. It is filled with tips and useful research for architects and designers and includes three substantial chapters on general modeling. Passive solar heating works. Properly designed and constructed, it is cost-effective, practical, comfortable, and aesthetic. Balcomb's introductory remarks set the tone for the rest of the contributions, which describe the considerable record of achievements in passive solar heating. Balcomb summarizes and evaluates the era between 1976 and 1983 when most of the major developments took place and highlights the design features that have contributed to effective buildings. Three chapters cover modeling passive systems (applicable to both heating and cooling), and six chapters focus on the application of passive solar heating, with emphasis on components, analytical results for specific systems, test modules, subsystem integration into buildings, performance monitoring and results, and design tools.J. Douglas Balcomb is a Principal Engineer with the Solar Energy Research Institute.

Book Thermal Analysis and Design of Passive Solar Buildings

Download or read book Thermal Analysis and Design of Passive Solar Buildings written by A. K. ATHIENITIS and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passive solar design techniques are becoming increasingly important in building design. This design reference book takes the building engineer or physicist step-by-step through the thermal analysis and design of passive solar buildings. In particular it emphasises two important topics: the maximum utilization of available solar energy and thermal storage, and the sizing of an appropriate auxiliary heating/cooling system in conjunction with good thermal control. Topics include: Transient heat transfer and thermal storage, Fenestration components, systems and daylighting, Dynamic models of heat transfer in solar buildings, The passive response of solar buildings and its use in design, Ventilation and indoor air quality, Analysis and sizing of small auxiliary heating/cooling systems, Control of passive solar buildings, Solar energy utilization techniques and systems, Thermal Analysis and Design of Passive Solar Buildings is an important contribution towards the optimization of buildings as systems that act as natural filters between the indoor and outdoor environments, while maximizing the utilization of solar energy. As such it will be an essential source of information to engineers, architects, HVAC engineers and building physicists. Book jacket.

Book Passive Solar in the United States

Download or read book Passive Solar in the United States written by J. Douglas Balcomb and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade of experience in passive solar development in the United States is reviewed. More than 200,000 residential and 15,000 institutional and commercial passive solar buildings have been constructed since 1976. The evolution of the program through its peak in 1980 to the present is described. Methods of performance prediction and evaluation are discussed including analysis methods, design tools, test modules and monitored buildings. Results of the monitoring show excellent performance, generally in agreement with the analysis, for both residences and larger buildings. Passive practice is analyzed and problems are discussed. The current research program is described. Potential savings are estimated.
