Book Investigation of Full Depth Asphaltic Concrete Overlays on Highways

Download or read book Investigation of Full Depth Asphaltic Concrete Overlays on Highways written by G. M Hammitt (II.) and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation was to conduct a study of Corps of Engineers pavement overlay design to determine if it would be possible to reduce the thickness of an overlay if a rigid pavement was overlaid with full-depth asphalt. This study indicated that for material meeting Corps of Engineers guide specifications, there would not be an equivalency ratio between asphalt-bound and unbound material. However, for material not meeting Corps of Engineers specifications, it is possible to upgrade these materials by the addition of asphalt and thereby reduce the thickness requirements for the asphalt-bound material.

Book excerpt: This report from the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2), which is administered by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, focuses on improving the ability of highway agencies to design and construct long-lasting highway projects with minimal disruption to the traveling public.

Book Thin and Ultra thin Whitetopping

Download or read book Thin and Ultra thin Whitetopping written by Robert Otto Rasmussen and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 338: Thin and Ultra-Thin Whitetopping summarizes available information to document how state departments of transportation and others are currently using thin and ultra-thin whitetopping overlays among various pavement rehabilitation alternatives. The report covers all stages of the proper application of whitetopping overlays, including project selection, design, materials selection, construction, maintenance, and eventual rehabilitation or replacement.

Book Failure and Repair of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement

Download or read book Failure and Repair of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement written by National Research Council (U.S.). Transportation Research Board and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1979 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance of CRCP has revealed a number of failure modes that are traceable to design, construction, materials, and maintenance deficiencies and such other factors as environemntal conditions and traffic loadings. This report of the Transportation Research Board includes a review of the cumulative experiences of state that have constructed and maintained CRCP. Guidelines for repair techniques are included, and areas of needed research are identified.

Book Asphalt Overlay Design Procedures

Download or read book Asphalt Overlay Design Procedures written by Fred N. Finn and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1984 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers and others concerned with the design of asphalt concrete overlays. Information is presented on reasons for overlaying a pavement and on the vaious methods available for design of an asphalt overlay. A pavement overlay may be required because of inadequate ride quality, excessive pavement distress, reduced friction between tire and pavement, high user costs, or inadequate structural capacity for planned use. This report of the Transportation Research Boad discusses the current methods used for designing asphalt concrete overlays with emphasis on deflection-based and analytical procedures.

Book Repair of Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Repair of Concrete Pavements written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board. Annual Meeting and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1 evaluates the use of welded wire fabric reinforcement to alleviate rutting and/or shoving of pavement at intersections, and compares the effectiveness of extra thickness of asphaltic concrete overlays over portland cement concrete vs the use of welded wire reinforcement in the asphaltic concrete overlay to control reflection cracking in the asphaltic concrete surface. Paper 2 concerns a method of controlling reflection cracks in bituminous concrete overlays over the transverse joints of rigid pavements. Paper 3 concerns the experiences in district no. 4 of the New York State Department of Public Works with the salvage and restoration of old concrete pavements. Paper 4: Maintenance programs during the first 8 years of commercial airline operation at Willow Run Airfield are described.
