Book Inversion of Prestack Seismic Data for Reservoir Characterization Offshore Andaman Sea Thailand

Download or read book Inversion of Prestack Seismic Data for Reservoir Characterization Offshore Andaman Sea Thailand written by Non Sanpairote and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are several methods for determining and predicting the fluid content of the petroleum reservoir rocks such as seismic inversion and Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) analysis. This project presents one of seismic inversion methods called Simultaneous Inversion. The Simultaneous Inversion is applied to seismic data obtained from offshore Andaman Sea, Thailand, where has been identified as a gas sweet spot. This approach transforms seismic reflection data into elastic properties and quantitatively distinguishes these properties into two rock units--shale and sandstone. In addition, inversion results are compared with observations from previous AVO analysis study to confirm the distribution of the gas reservoir model. In conclusion, this project suggests that the seismic inversion is a more suitable method to apply to seismic data from offshore Andaman Sea.

Book Pre Stack Seismic Inversion and Amplitude Variation with Offset AVO Attributes as Hydrocarbon Indicators in Carbonate Rocks

Download or read book Pre Stack Seismic Inversion and Amplitude Variation with Offset AVO Attributes as Hydrocarbon Indicators in Carbonate Rocks written by Jacob T. Murchek and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amplitude anomalies in pre-stack seismic data have widely been used in the oil and gas industry as a risk analysis tool when exploring for hydrocarbons. AVO analysis is most often applied to poorly consolidated Tertiary rocks due to the compressibility of these strata when natural gas and porosity are present. In contrast, well-lithified carbonate rocks are less prone to producing a pre-stack amplitude response due to the rigidity of their frame. Pre-stack seismic data of a 2-D seismic profile were conditioned and interpreted to identify amplitude variation with offset (AVO) attributes corresponding to the presence of hydrocarbons within the North Vernon Limestone (NVL) interval in the Illinois Basin. The seismic data were acquired over the Glen Ayr oil field in Vigo County, Indiana, and in the Old Hill oil field in Clay County, Indiana prior to wells being drilled. Production in both fields is from porous dolomites draped by tight limestone or dolomites over a Silurian reef complex We show that with appropriate pre-stack data conditioning subtle AVO responses in Illinois Basin carbonates may indicate the presence of hydrocarbons. Seismic line CM-46-12 (Clay) and CM-27-14 (Vigo) were both analyzed using AVO attributes to identify anomalous zones that may relate to the presence of hydrocarbons. Seismic Line CM-27-14 was further interpreted using pre-stack inversion to provide additional information pertaining to the reservoir rock properties. The results on both seismic lines show strong, negative AVO gradients along the NVL interval, whereas nonproductive intervals exhibit either positive or no amplitude gradient. Pre-stack inversion of lime CM-27-14 shows high impedance zones which are consistent with the presence of tight dolomite atop the reef structure. Low-impedance, low VP/VS ratio zones correlate to the hydrocarbon bearing porosity zones of the NVL interval.

Book Probabilistic Seismic Inversion Based on Rock physics Models for Reservoir Characterization

Download or read book Probabilistic Seismic Inversion Based on Rock physics Models for Reservoir Characterization written by Kyle Thomas Spikes and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation addresses recurrent questions in hydrocarbon reservoir characterization. What properties of rock stand behind recorded seismic reflections? How and to what extent can these rock properties be quantified from these reflections? To answer these questions, I link reservoir thickness, lithology, porosity, and saturation to seismic data by coupling deterministic rock-physics relationships and Bayesian statistics. The key innovation is a seismic-inversion method that functions on the principles of deterministic physics and probabilistic variations of rock properties for a potential reservoir. This is intended for use in practical reservoir characterization. Within it, I engage into the fundamental issue of reconciling spatial scale differences between seismic imaging, geology and stratigraphy, and rock physics.

Book STOCHASTIC INVERSION INTEGRATING SEISMIC DATA LITHO FACIES PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND MULTIPLE POINT GEOSTATISTICS FOR RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION

Download or read book STOCHASTIC INVERSION INTEGRATING SEISMIC DATA LITHO FACIES PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND MULTIPLE POINT GEOSTATISTICS FOR RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract : We proposed a novel seismic inversion approach that integrates the physical properties of litho-facies, and geophysical data, within the multiple-point geostatistical frameworks to reduce the uncertainty in predictions of litho-facies spatial arrangement away from wells or control points. The litho-facies groups (rock-type) in the well locations are defined and conditioned to the distribution of elastic properties, including P-wave velocity (Vp) and facies density (rho) in the well locations. A conceptual geological model (training image) is utilized within a wavelet-based multiple-point geostatistical simulation (WAVESIM) algorithm to generate litho-facies realizations. In our inversion algorithm, the forward model is created by implementing the bivariate Kernel density estimation technique of the litho-facies properties (Vp and rho) that are distributed in the well locations. The inversion approach is an iterative process, where a particular number of elastic properties (Vp and rho) for each WAVESIM realization are drawn, and then the forward model was utilized to create synthetic seismograms. For each generated set of the WAVESIM realizations, a series of synthetic seismograms are produced, and one realization is selected that provides the best-match synthetic seismogram compared to the input seismic data using crosscorrelation function. Our inversion technique was successfully applied to synthetic and field datasets. The results demonstrate the efficiency of our inversion approach to characterize highly heterogeneous reservoirs.

Book Reservoir Characterization

Download or read book Reservoir Characterization written by Larry Lake and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir Characterization is a collection of papers presented at the Reservoir Characterization Technical Conference, held at the Westin Hotel-Galleria in Dallas on April 29-May 1, 1985. Conference held April 29-May 1, 1985, at the Westin Hotel—Galleria in Dallas. The conference was sponsored by the National Institute for Petroleum and Energy Research, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Reservoir characterization is a process for quantitatively assigning reservoir properties, recognizing geologic information and uncertainties in spatial variability. This book contains 19 chapters, and begins with the geological characterization of sandstone reservoir, followed by the geological prediction of shale distribution within the Prudhoe Bay field. The subsequent chapters are devoted to determination of reservoir properties, such as porosity, mineral occurrence, and permeability variation estimation. The discussion then shifts to the utility of a Bayesian-type formalism to delineate qualitative ""soft"" information and expert interpretation of reservoir description data. This topic is followed by papers concerning reservoir simulation, parameter assignment, and method of calculation of wetting phase relative permeability. This text also deals with the role of discontinuous vertical flow barriers in reservoir engineering. The last chapters focus on the effect of reservoir heterogeneity on oil reservoir. Petroleum engineers, scientists, and researchers will find this book of great value.
