It includes statistics for all of the fatalities, as well as abstracts and illustrations. The drowning fatalities in this report come under several different accident classifications. These classifications are slip or fall of person, machinery, powered haulage, electrical and "other." From January 1996 through Decemb er 1999, 345 miners and contractors died at coal and metal/nonmetal operations. Of the 345 fatalities, 17 fatalities involved drowning, which contributed to 4.9 percent of all fatalities during this period.
