This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to the Study of Agricultural Economics But while the farmer may be more directly dependent upon Nature than are those engaged in the industries of the city, he is by no means inde pendent of his fellow men. The pioneer farmer who looked primarily to the satisfaction of the wants of his own household may have selected the crops which he cultivated, without giving any thought to the needs of other men; but the modern agriculturist, who produces primarily for the market, and procures upon the market a large share of the necessaries, conveniences, and luxuries of life, is bound to take into account the demands of his fellow beings. The modern farmer must consider the price for which the produce can be sold as well as the conditions of production, if he would manage his farm successfully. Book Introduction to Economics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Introduction to Economics Classic Reprint written by John Roscoe Turner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Economics This book is an outgrowth of classroom discussions. It contains in substance the talks on economics which have been made, for the past eleven years, to my Classes in Cornell and New York Universities. NO apology is offered for the fact that this volume is limited to a discussion of principles. Even the concluding chapters on corporations are designed to exemplify princi ples. The time has long since passed when a single volume can treat exhaustively the whole field of economics. I shall be more than content if this work justifies the scope indicated for it in the title - Introduction to Economics. Designed as an introduction, this book will serve as a means to the end of a more intelligent study of economic questions. It does not dispense with the necessity of read ing the many excellent treatises devoted to the different phases of economics; rather it distinctly calls for such read ings. It merely prepares the mind of the student for the thought contained in the more advanced and specialized works on the subject and the practical applications they reveal. Book Revisiting Classical Economics

Download or read book Revisiting Classical Economics written by Heinz D. Kurz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The financial crisis and the economic crisis that followed triggered a crisis in the subject of economics, as it is typically being taught today especially in macroeconomics and related fields. A renewed interest in earlier authors, especially the classical economists from Adam Smith to David Ricardo and John Maynard Keynes, developed. This book may also be seen as a response to this interest. What can we learn from the authors mentioned, what we could not learn from the mainstream? This volume contains a selection of essays which deepens and widens the understanding of the classical approach to important problems, such as value and distribution, growth and technical progress, and exhaustible natural resources. It is the fourth collection in a row and reflects an on-going discussion of the fecundity of the classical approach. A main topic of the essays is a comparison between the classical approaches with modern theory and thus an identification of what can be learned by elaborating on the ideas of Smith and Ricardo and Marx above and beyond and variously in contradiction to certain mainstream view. Since the work of Piero Sraffa spurred the revival of classical economic thought, his contributions are dealt with in some detail. The attention then focuses on economic growth and the treatment of exhaustible resources within a classical framework of the analysis.

Book Ancient Economies Modern Methodologies

Download or read book Ancient Economies Modern Methodologies written by Peter Fibiger Bang and published by Edipuglia srl. This book was released on 2006 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient Economies, Modern Methodologies is a collection of essays which focuses on the art of questioning; it is about ideas and analytical experiment. Ancient economic history has developed enormously since the publication of M.I. Finley’s The Ancient Economy in 1973. Much new material has been brought to bear on the debate on the character of economic life in the Greek and Roman world. But, at the same time, discussions have been going round in circles. This is because not enough attention has been given to the questions ancient historians ask and the concepts with which they approach the economy. In this collection, an attempt is made to renew the terms of the debate by presenting a wide variety of new analytical approaches to ancient economic history ranging from literary theory, cross-cultural comparison, statistical analysis of archaeological data to neo-institutional economics and model-building.
