Book Introduction l analyse des textes classiques

Download or read book Introduction l analyse des textes classiques written by Georges Forestier and published by Armand Colin. This book was released on 2012-09-26 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book An Introduction to Applied Semiotics

Download or read book An Introduction to Applied Semiotics written by Louis Hébert and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Applied Semiotics presents nineteen semiotics tools for text and image analysis. Covering a variety of different schools and approaches, together with the author’s own original approach, this is a full and synthetic introduction to semiotics. This book presents general tools that can be used with any semiotic product. Drawing on the work of Fontanille, Genette, Greimas, Hébert, Jakobson, Peirce, Rastier and Zilberberg, the tools deal with the analysis of themes and action, true and false, positive and negative, rhythm narration and other elements. The application of each tool is illustrated with analyses of a wide range of texts and images, from well-known or distinctive literary texts, philosophical or religious texts or images, paintings, advertising and everyday signs and symbols. Each chapter has the same structure – summary, theory and application, making it ideal for course use. Covering both visual and textual objects, this is a key text for all courses in semiotics and textual analysis within linguistics, communication studies, literary theory, design, marketing and related areas.

Download or read book Ceremonial Splendor written by Joy Palacios and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the end of France’s long seventeenth century, the seminary-trained, reform-minded Catholic priest had crystalized into a type recognizable by his clothing, gestures, and ceremonial skill. Although critics denounced these priests as hypocrites or models for Molière’s Tartuffe, seminaries associated the features of this priestly identity with the idea of the vray ecclésiastique, or true churchman. Ceremonial Splendor examines the way France’s early seminaries promoted the emergence and construction of the true churchman as a mode of embodiment and ecclesiastical ideal between approximately 1630 and 1730. Based on an analysis of sources that regulated priestly training in France, such as seminary rules and manuals, liturgical handbooks, ecclesiastical pamphlets and conferences, and episcopal edicts, the book uses theories of performance to reconstruct the way clergymen learned to conduct liturgical ceremonies, abide by clerical norms, and aspire to perfection. Joy Palacios shows how the process of crafting a priestly identity involved a wide range of performances, including improvisation, role-playing, and the display of skills. In isolation, any one of these performance obligations, if executed in a way that drew attention to the self, could undermine a clergyman’s priestly persona and threaten the institution of the priesthood more broadly. Seminaries counteracted the ever-present threat of theatricality by ceremonializing the clergyman’s daily life, rendering his body and gestures contiguous with the mass. Through its focus on priestly identity, Ceremonial Splendor reconsiders the relationship between Church and theater in early modern France and uncovers ritual strategies that continue to shape religious authority today.

Book Fortune and Fatality

Download or read book Fortune and Fatality written by Desmond Hosford and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-10-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an aesthetic notion and dramatic genre, tragedy has enjoyed a privileged place in French culture, particularly during the early modern period when debates over its nature and philosophy reflected fascination with a style whose fundamental principles were drawn from ancient Greek sources. Through the works of Pierre Corneille and Jean Racine, routinely cited for an alleged regularity of form and content exemplifying the academic notion of French Classicism, tragedy has grounded the French literary canon. Because of its place at the heart of canonical French literary studies, tragedy’s traditionally prescribed boundaries and interpretations have rarely been questioned. Fortune and Fatality: Performing the Tragic in Early Modern France challenges conventional notions of the nature and function of tragedy and the ends to which philosophical, theatrical, and performative aspects of the tragic were appropriated during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The scope of material explored in this volume will be of interest not only to scholars and students of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century literature, but to those working in areas such as theater, gender studies, aesthetics, history, religion, philosophy, classics, and cultural studies.

Book Introduction l analyse du roman

Download or read book Introduction l analyse du roman written by Yves Reuter and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
