Book Tourismophobia

Download or read book Tourismophobia written by Jean-Christophe Gay and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-10-30 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the heart of “tourismophobia”, past and present, is the question of the masses and the differentiation between those who call themselves “travellers”, denying their own tourism, and tourists. Tourismophobia studies the persistence of the repulsion for them, and though their number is infinitely greater today, they are no longer socially the same and practices have radically changed. This book brings this cultural invariant out of the shadows to understand the driving forces behind this social posture, which has taken a new turn with climate change. Without overlooking the negative effects of tourism, this book is a response to the current debate on “overtourism”, which is the most contemporary form of tourismophobia.

Book La Cara be donn es environnementales

Download or read book La Cara be donn es environnementales written by and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2006 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Tourist Region

Download or read book The Tourist Region written by Jérôme Piriou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In geography, a region is one of the most obscure and controversial scientific research objects. However, the tourism sector frequently uses the term, both in the communication of tourism destinations and in daily-life vocabulary, to characterize spatial practices that overtake the scale of a place. That said, a geographic concentration of place, equipment and accommodation does not equate to a tourist region. In order to define the tourist region, this book presents the common thoughts and interpretations of it, which have been advanced by geographers since the beginning of the 20th Century. The Tourist Region also examines stakeholders’ logics that are identified in the practices of a tourist destination in a regional dimension, and explores the tourist region as a territorial co-construction. Finally, this book analyzes multi-level regional networks of tourist places, built according to tourist mobilities. By presenting several measurement methods of the tourist region, this book explains the spatial practices of tourists and anticipates the actions for tourism professionals.

Book Tourism Recreation and Regional Development

Download or read book Tourism Recreation and Regional Development written by Jean-Christophe Dissart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What factors contribute to tourism and recreation development? How can we characterise stakeholder rationales and organisation modes to enhance tourism resources and foster tourism and recreation services? To what extent do tourism and recreation contribute to regional development? What changes are taking place in terms of new destinations, stakeholders, policy objectives? Bringing together scholars from the fields of planning, economics, sociology, management studies and geography, this book examines cross-cutting issues in tourism and recreation with the aim of developing an extended view of leisure time. Focusing mainly on France with comparison to the experience of Northern and Southern European countries and North America, it combines a diverse range of case studies to address issues such as contrasting rural dynamics, changing public policies, sustainable development imperatives, evolving user behaviour and increasingly diverse recreation activities and stakeholder organisation. Specific topics are highlighted, such as the role of social capital or culture as factors of recreation development; resort organisation from international and experience-based perspectives; and the usefulness of the capability approach to evaluate tourism impacts on local development. Emphasising policy recommendations to help public or collective action on the issues and presenting emerging trends in the field, this book should be of interest to students, scholars and stakeholders in tourism/recreation planning and management.

Book Gastronomy and Local Development

Download or read book Gastronomy and Local Development written by Nicola Bellini and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gastronomy, particularly gourmet tourism, is widely acknowledged as having a powerful impact on local development. Public policies have developed in response to research, highlighting gastronomy as key in a successful tourism economy. However, research thus far has not fully explored the underlying mechanisms of gastronomic tourism, in particular the marketing and perception of quality, on economic development. This book considers how the quality of products, places, and experiences contributes to the desirability and competitiveness of gourmet touristic destinations. The contributors present theoretical and empirical studies to create an original conceptual framework for regional development based on the quality of products, of places, and of touristic experience. It also examines the ways in which quality is linked to identity, diversity, innovation, and creativity. With an interdisciplinary approach, this book will be of interest to researchers in tourism and hospitality, regional studies, and human geography, as well as to tourism development professionals and policymakers in the areas of rural and local development.
