Book The Esoteric Tarot

Download or read book The Esoteric Tarot written by Ronald Decker and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That the Tarot originated in ancient Egypt as a divinatory tool is a romantic misconception. Ron Decker’s meticulous scholarship will surprise practitioners and academics alike, revealing the Tarot’s true evolution and meanings as its inventor(s) understood it. The Tarot consists of the Minor Arcana, four suits of cards similar to our modern deck, and the Major Arcana, twenty-two allegorical or “trump” cards. Decker says the four-suit deck was invented in Asia Minor before AD 1000; Italian courtiers added the trumps in the 1400s. But Tarot was first used as a game. Tarot divination was only created in the 1700s by a Parisian fortuneteller who based the trump images on Hermeticism, which merges Greco-Egyptian alchemy, astrology, numerology, magic, and mysticism. Today, the suit-cards are often traced to the ancient Jewish Cabala. But, says Decker, they, too, acquired their meanings only in the 1700s, and he cites a lost numerical system based on Cabala at that time. Decker’s interpretation integrates three whole systems-astrological, arithmological, mystagogical (concerning initiation rites into the Mysteries). His depth of knowledge makes the book a must-have for serious students of Tarot and esotericism.

Book The Symbolism of The Tarot

Download or read book The Symbolism of The Tarot written by P. D. Ouspensky and published by Sanage Publishing House Llp. This book was released on 2024-01-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Symbolism of the Tarot the great Russian mystic P.D. Ouspensky synthesizes ideas from the ancient sciences of Astrology, Kabbalah, Alchemy and Magic to create a profound guide to the symbolic nature of the Tarot. The Book focuses on the specialized faculty of mind that can be developed through the use of the cards. In these pages you will discover that the key to understanding the Tarot lies in the imagination because reading and interpreting the cards requires "a special cast of mind" and a developed power of creative thought. Ouspensky sees the Tarot first and foremost as a means of developing the higher sensitivity that allows us to see the symbolic language of esoteric traditions. P. D. Ouspensky also offers his own interpretive vision of each of the 22 cards of the Major Arcana revealing the hidden realities they represent. He asks us to remember that the meaning of authentic symbols is never fixed. The wisdom they contain is constantly shifting and moving and reading the cards is an art form. By practicing the art of the Tarot we can learn how to bring ourselves into direct contact with the secret worlds of inner wisdom that always lie beneath our ordinary perceptions of reality.

Book The Magian Tarok

Download or read book The Magian Tarok written by Stephen E. Flowers and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveals the historical roots of the symbology of the Tarot in the Mithraic tradition of the Persian Magi and the Hermetic tradition • Explores the Magian teachings on the Stoeicheia and how this magical alphabet was the template for the Tarot • Explains how the sequencing of the Major Arcana is related to the images used in Mithraic initiation • Looks at the original meanings of the Major Arcana using Mithraic symbolism, as well as the deep-level connections of the Tarot with Egypt, the Romani people, the Semitic tradition, and runes The Tarot is a mythic map of the world and of consciousness. It offers a meta-language of signs and symbols that communicate their meaning precisely. Yet the true origins of the Tarot remain shrouded in mystery. These oracular cards have long been thought to have come from Egypt or from the “Gypsies,” but as Stephen E. Flowers reveals, their original roots lie in the Mithraic tradition of the Persian Magi. In this book, Flowers explores the historical roots and mythology of the symbolic images that became known as the Tarot. Drawing on theories first pioneered by the Swedish scholar Sigurd Agrell (1881-1937), he reveals the genesis of the Tarot’s symbolism in the great Hermetic tradition at the same time the Magical Papyri were being written in Greco-Roman Egypt. He explains how the sequencing of the Major Arcana is related to the images used in Mithraic initiation, elements of which were then integrated into existing Roman and Egyptian traditions. Exploring the Magian teachings on the Stoeicheia, an alphabet that acted as a map for understanding the order of the cosmos, he demonstrates how this alphabet of magical symbols was the template for the Tarot. The author also shows how the 22 Major Arcana cards were related to the 22 letters of the Roman alphabet used for oracular purposes in ancient times. Looking in-depth at the principles of Mithraism, the author explains how the Roman form of Mithraism, a guiding factor in the early shaping of the Tarot, was itself a synthesis of Iranian Magianism, Greek stoicism, Babylonian astrology, and Greco-Egyptian Hermeticism. Exploring the cards themselves, Flowers then looks at the original meanings of the Major Arcana using Mithraic symbolism and its offshoots. He also explains the truth behind many of the myths surrounding the Tarot, including their deep-level connections with Egypt, the Romani people, the Semitic tradition, and runes. By restoring the original mysteria to the icons of the Tarot and learning their true origins, we can better understand the insight these powerful cards impart in divination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every age and in every country there are always those few individuals who seek more satisfying answers to the great questions of Life than they can find in their local churches and temples or through science. If their quest is sincere and they persist, they will eventually be drawn into contact with one of the world's Mystery Schools, where they may be instructed and trained. There have always been centers, called Mystery Schools, responding to the cry for understanding from aspirants throughout the ages. Today such close secrecy is no longer necessary. Much may now be given out openly which formerly could be imparted only in private and by word of mouth. The greatest secrets, however, can never be transmitted by written or spoken word. That secrecy which guards the deepest esoteric knowledge is not imposed by the custodians of Ageless Wisdom but by human ignorance. It is the kind of secrecy which shrouds the work of great scientists such as Bor, Curie, Einstein, Edison and others. This secrecy does not result from any deliberate withholding but rather from a mass ignorance and consequent inability to understand the concepts and reasoning required by advanced science. The custodians of Ageless Wisdom can no more disclose their knowledge to untrained men and women than great scientists can explain their theories of the universe to children who are still in kindergarten
