Download or read book Wittgenstein from a New Point of View written by Jesús Padilla Gálvez and published by Peter Lang Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frankfurt/M., Berlin, Bern, Bruxelles, New York, Oxford, Wien. Undoubtedly, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) is considered one of the most famous philosophers. In contrast to other 20th century philosophers, who arranged to have their complete works published while still alive or after their deaths, Wittgenstein's works are still incompletely published with only part of them being in print. He wasn't concerned with the issue of notoriety nor was he concerned with fame. However, his lectures and publications would very early be recognized by his Spanish colleagues and were reviewed as early as in 1933. This volume is designed to present new ideas and approaches to analysis to open up a new perspective in the reception of Wittgenstein's works. This volume of essays has a unity and bears throughout the imprint of Wittgenstein's powerful and original mind. The authors have published most of their contributions in international journals. They are willing to present their results to debate and would welcome constructive feedback. Contents: Jesus Padilla-Galvez: Introduction - Norberto Abreu/Silva Neto: Wittgenstein's Philosophy throughout the Corners of Brazil: Data for the Study of Its Reception - Axel Arturo Barcelo Aspeitia: Grammatical Necessity in Wittgenstein's Middle Period - Jesus Padilla-Galvez: Metamathematics Does Not Exist - Wittgenstein's Criticism of Metamathematics - Francisco Rodriguez-Consuegra: Wittgenstein and Russell on Propositions and Forms - Josep-Maria Terricabras: (Theology as Grammar) - Wittgenstein in Brackets - Alejandro Tomasini Bassols: Wittgensteinian Considerations about Time - Jesus Padilla-Galvez: Spanish Wittgenstein Bibliography (1986-2001).

Download or read book Seeing Wittgenstein Anew written by William Day and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-03-15 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeing Wittgenstein Anew is a collection which examines Ludwig Wittgenstein's remarks on the concept of aspect-seeing, showing that it was not simply one more topic of investigation in Wittgenstein's later writings but rather a pervasive and guiding concept in his efforts to turn philosophy's attention to the actual conditions of our common life in language. The essays in this 2010 volume open up novel paths across familiar fields of thought: the objectivity of interpretation, the fixity of the past, the acquisition of language, and the nature of human consciousness. Significantly, they exemplify how continuing consideration of the interrelated phenomena of aspect-seeing might produce a fruitful way of doing philosophy in a new century.

Download or read book How To Read Wittgenstein written by Ray Monk and published by Granta Books. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though Wittgenstein wrote on the same subjects that dominate the work of other analytic philosophers - the nature of logic, the limits of language, the analysis of meaning - he did so in a peculiarly poetic style that separates his work sharply from that of his peers and makes the question of how to read him particularly pertinent. At the root of Wittgenstein's thought, Ray Monk argues, is a determination to resist the scientism characteristic of our age, a determination to insist on the integrity and the autonomy of non-scientific forms of understanding. The kind of understanding we seek in philosophy, Wittgenstein tried to make clear, is similar to the kind we might seek of a person, a piece of music, or, indeed, a poem. Extracts are taken from Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus and from a range of writings, including Philosophical Investigations, The Blue and Brown Books and Last Writings on the Philosophy of Psychology.
Download or read book Ludwig Wittgenstein written by Mathieu Marion and published by Presses Universitaires de France - PUF. This book was released on 2004 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Beyond The Tractatus Wars written by Rupert Read and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-02-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over fifteen years have passed since Cora Diamond and James Conant turned Wittgenstein scholarship upside down with the program of “resolute” reading, and ten years since this reading was crystallized in the major collection The New Wittgenstein. This approach remains at the center of the debate about Wittgenstein and his philosophy, and this book draws together the latest thinking of the world’s leading Tractatarian scholars and promising newcomers. Showcasing one piece alternately from each “camp”, Beyond the Tractatus Wars pairs newly commissioned pieces addressing differing views on how to understand early Wittgenstein, providing for the first time an arena in which the debate between “strong” resolutists, “mild” resolutists and “elucidatory” readers of the book can really take place. The collection includes famous “samizdat” essays by Warren Goldfarb and Roger White that are finally seeing the light of day.
Download or read book The Practice of Everyday Life written by Michel de Certeau and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1984 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michel de Certeau considers the uses to which social representation and modes of social behavior are put by individuals and groups, describing the tactics available to the common man for reclaiming his own autonomy from the all-pervasive forces of commerce, politics, and culture. In exploring the public meaning of ingeniously defended private meanings, de Certeau draws on an immense theoretical literature in analytic philosophy, linguistics, sociology, semiology, and anthropology--to speak of an apposite use of imaginative literature.
Download or read book Tractatus Logico Philosophicus The original 1922 edition with an introduction by Bertram Russell written by Ludwig Wittgenstein and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2013-11-10 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus is the only book-length philosophical work published by the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein in his lifetime. It was an ambitious project: to identify the relationship between language and reality and to define the limits of science. It is recognized as a significant philosophical work of the twentieth century. Wittgenstein wrote the notes for Tractatus while he was a soldier during World War I and completed it when a prisoner of war at Como and later Cassino in August 1918. It was first published in German in 1921 as Logisch-Philosophische Abhandlung. Tractatus was influential chiefly amongst the logical positivists of the Vienna Circle, such as Rudolf Carnap and Friedrich Waismann.

Download or read book Tractatus logico philosophicus written by Ludwig Wittgenstein and published by Editorial Letraherido. This book was released on 2023-02-19 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
