Book excerpt: Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (US Department of Defense Regulation) (DOD) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (US Department of Defense Regulation) (DOD) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 DoD is establishing policies to implement the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (referred to as the "Compact") within the DoD, informed by the sense of Congress, and in furtherance of the operation of DoD schools. The final rule provides components with policies to support the intent of the Compact, which is to aid the transition of school-age children in military families between school districts (to include between Department of Defense Educational Activity (DoDEA) schools and state school districts). Each state joining the Compact agrees to address specific school transition issues in a consistent way and minimize school disruptions for military children transferring from one state school system to another. The Compact consists of general policies in four key areas: Eligibility, enrollment, placement, and graduation. Children of active duty members of the uniformed services, National Guard and Reserve on active duty orders, and members or veterans who are medically discharged or retired for one year are eligible for assistance under the Compact. Book Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society

Download or read book Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-10-25 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. military has been continuously engaged in foreign conflicts for over two decades. The strains that these deployments, the associated increases in operational tempo, and the general challenges of military life affect not only service members but also the people who depend on them and who support them as they support the nation â€" their families. Family members provide support to service members while they serve or when they have difficulties; family problems can interfere with the ability of service members to deploy or remain in theater; and family members are central influences on whether members continue to serve. In addition, rising family diversity and complexity will likely increase the difficulty of creating military policies, programs and practices that adequately support families in the performance of military duties. Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society examines the challenges and opportunities facing military families and what is known about effective strategies for supporting and protecting military children and families, as well as lessons to be learned from these experiences. This report offers recommendations regarding what is needed to strengthen the support system for military families.

Book A New School for Brats Improving the K 12 Education of Military Connected Children Implementation of Competency Based Personalized Learning Model with Expanded Network of DoD Education Activity

Download or read book A New School for Brats Improving the K 12 Education of Military Connected Children Implementation of Competency Based Personalized Learning Model with Expanded Network of DoD Education Activity written by U. S. Military and published by . This book was released on 2018-07-28 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis answers the question: How can recent changes in the educational environment be leveraged to improve K-12 education for military-connected children? In 2011, the Obama Administration issued a report, Strengthening Our Military Families, in which the president, the vice president, and every member of the president's cabinet committed to ensuring the well-being of military families, including the education of military-connected children. This study examines the current American public school system and its reliance on the traditional "factory-based" education model to determine the system's efficacy in educating military-connected children, a student population with unique academic, social, physical, and psychological challenges. Rather than depending on the traditional education model to educate military-connected children, this study recommends the implementation of a competency-based personalized learning model-- strengthened by technology--within an expanded domestic network of the United States Department of Defense Education Activity to improve the K-12 education of military-connected children.I. Book excerpt: Assistance to States for Education of Children with Disabilities (US Department of Education Regulation) (ED) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Assistance to States for Education of Children with Disabilities (US Department of Education Regulation) (ED) (2018 Edition). These regulations govern the Assistance to States for the Education of Children with Disabilities program, including the Preschool Grants for Children with Disabilities program. These amendments revise the parental consent requirements a public agency must meet before it may access for the first time a child's or parent's public benefits or insurance (e.g., Medicaid) to pay for services required under the Act; ensure that parents of children with disabilities are specifically informed of all of their legal protections when public agencies seek to access public benefits or insurance (e.g., Medicaid) to pay for services required under the Act; and address the concerns expressed by State educational agencies (SEAs) and local educational agencies (LEAs) that requiring parental consent each time access to public benefits or insurance is sought, in addition to the parental consent required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and section 617(c) of the IDEA, imposes unnecessary costs and administrative burdens.
