Book International Perspectives on Trade Promotion and Assistance

Download or read book International Perspectives on Trade Promotion and Assistance written by S. Tamer Cavusgil and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1990-04-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the first international convention focused on stimulating trade through policy actions, the International Symposium on Trade Promotion and Assistance sought to present a comprehensive treatment of the role of the public sector in trade promotion. The papers presented at the conference have been collected in this book, and they review trade promotion activities at the international, state, and local levels. They also address the roles of private-sector institutions such as universities, trade centers, and trade associations in providing information and assistance to those companies interested in exporting. The book presents the invaluable experience and advice of experts who discuss obstacles firms face in exporting efforts and suggest how to achieve higher awareness levels, how to best assist firms in getting into the market, and how to make experienced exporters more successful. Divided into four parts, this collection features eighteen selections that address various aspects of trade promotion and assistance. The five chapters that make up Part I focus on state and federal programs in trade promotion. Part II, which contains seven chapters, looks at trade promotion programs in such countries as England, Norway, Australia, and China. Part III presents four readings on university and private initiatives in stimulating partnerships for export promotion, and Part IV features three chapters of empirical research findings on exporting with implications for public policy. A conclusion and index are also included, as well as a number of tables and figures. This book will be an important reference for companies involved in international business and sales, for business and marketing courses, and for public and academic libraries.

Book Trade Promotion Strategies

Download or read book Trade Promotion Strategies written by Claude Cellich and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2012-01-13 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New opportunities are emerging constantly, as part of the globalization process creating new markets, with new players and challenging current business practices. Creating or exploiting opportunities on an individual basis is not the best practice: it is much more productive (and much less risky) to participate in national Trade Promotion Programs designed and implemented with government assistance. In recent years, Trade Promotion Institutions have developed national strategies and new tools to support the business sector, helping enterprises to find new markets and trade opportunities. What are these national strategies, how are they designed and implemented? Special attention is given to evaluation tools created to assess results and provide justification for investment expenditures. Best practices will be considered and reviewed on the basis of selected countries having introduced innovative national trade promotion programs, such as Finland, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore.

Book Aid for Trade Global and Regional Perspectives

Download or read book Aid for Trade Global and Regional Perspectives written by Philippe Lombaerde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-03 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aid for Trade (AfT) has become a major item on the international trade and development discourse. This is to a large extent in response to concerns expressed by developing countries and economies in transition with regard to their capacities to implement trade agreements, especially WTO agreements, and undertake necessary adjustments to increase net development gains from emerging trade opportunities. In this World Report, major UN agencies active in development cooperation and longstanding providers of trade-related technical assistance and capacity building discuss ways to sustain the momentum towards the operationalization and implementation of the AfT initiative and the supportive role to be played by the UN system. This is consistent with UN's role in promoting development and helping to achieve poverty reduction, as committed in the Millennium Declaration and the 2005 World Summit Outcome. The Report should be of particular interest to government officials, officials of regional organizations, representatives of the private sector dealing with trade agreements and negotiations, civil society and academia. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary-General of UNCTAD Lakshmi Puri is Acting Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Division on International Trade and Services, and Commodities at UNCTAD in Geneva. Philippe De Lombaerde is Associate Director of United Nations University (UNU-CRIS) in Bruges. In collaboration with: UNCTAD, ECA, ECLAC, ESCAP, ESCWA, UNECE, UNIDO, UNDP, UNEP

Book excerpt: Companies succeed in international markets because of their competitive competence which, in large measure, is based on the level of knowledge and skill they bring to their international marketing activities. Public organizations in the export development and promotion field play a facilitating role in this process. Consequently, considerable attention is paid to the performance of the public organization support programs and activities. Each researcher comes to his/her own conclusions based on the individual work undertaken, but readers will fmd that certain common themes run through many ofthe chapters. The key objectives of the book are: 1. To provide academic researchers with a current and comprehensive treatment of the role played by public organizations in export development and promotion. 2. To expose professional readers (officials in relevant public organizations, consultants in the private sector or in international agencies) to a view of their field of interest that might be broader and more critical than normal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following in the wake of the World Trade Organization's engagement with Aid for Trade, this book brings together a range of perspectives around this emerging issue. The collection of articles in this volume presents many of the ideas elaborated through research conducted by International Lawyers and Economists Against Poverty (ILEAP) since 2005 and is intended to provide a basis for further study. Since many of the contributions on aid for trade to date have come from the North, the book looks to deepen the debate by forwarding voices and experiences from the South. The book traces the evolution of Aid for Trade from its beginnings and examines the global architecture, modalities, and costs associated with its implementation. Drawing on lessons from national and regional experiences, this book further explores ways in which Aid for Trade can both move forward and become a real tool for poverty reduction in beneficiary countries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing concern over the U.S. trade deficit in 1978 and 1979 and depreciation of the dollar in foreign exchange markets caused concern over U.S. trade policies. In order to help fill the need for long-range world trade information, a detailed report was compiled from past GAO reports and testimony, published data on the issues discussed, and from agency and congressional records, testimony, and reference material. The following questions are posed as chapter headings and explored in detail: (1) What has happened with U.S. trade and payments problems since 1975? (2) Is there a coherent international trade policy? (3) Is the Government's organization adequate for handling trade matters? (4) Will the dollar exchange rate redress the trade imbalance? (5) Can export controls be administered better to support U.S. export goals? (6) Can foreign trade barriers/import restrictions be reduced? (7) Should something be done about imports? (8) Are changes needed in U.S. investment policies? (9) Can productivity be increased to make U.S. products more competitive? (10) What is the relationship between technology transfer and trade? (11) What effect does government regulation have on exports and imports? (12) Will government promotion increase U.S. exports? (13) What export financing assistance should be made available to exporters? (14) Can the U.S. payments position be improved through better administration of collections and payments? Appendices included in the report present a review of trade and payments legislation and a directory of selected GAO reports on trade and international payments issued since July 1973.

Looking at the management of innovation in firms and subsidiaries, they gain insights into how firms can innovate more effectively and efficiently. The study examines the role of management control and culture in stimulating creativity as well as an important driver of innovation. Download or read book Going Global written by William E. Nothdurft and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The globalization of markets, and the prospect of a Single European Market by the end of 1992 in particular, have heightened European attention to the export challenge and has spawned an intriguing array of export assistance services designed to help even the smallest business become a global competitor. Some of these initiatives are new and relatively untested; while others are well established and time-tested. The most interesting among them deal with exporting not as an end in itself but as part of a package of internationally development initiatives. In the struggle to become more internationally competitive and to increase exporting among its small- and medium-sized businesses, the United States has much to learn form its European trading partners. Going Global explores the principles that underlie European programs to help small and medium-sized firms export, and presents practical, policy-oriented guidance for creating high-yield export assistance programs in the United States in tough economic times.

Book South South Globalization

Download or read book South South Globalization written by S. Mansoob Murshed and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-06-16 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two prominent features of the current global economy are the world-wide recession brought about by the recent financial crisis, and the emergence of major economic powers from within the developing world such as Brazil, China and India. The former represents the failure of global regulatory policies and macroeconomic imbalances between surplus and deficit countries; the latter is symptomatic of a partial shift in economic power towards developing nations, who are often collectively labelled the global South. The macroeconomic imbalances are unsustainable in the longer run as they mean greater absorption relative to income in deficit nations; they require corrective action and international policy coordination. Reducing imbalances also requires large developing countries to raise their domestic consumption and also imports from the rest of the world and international financial institutions to operate as a lender of last resort. Furthermore, the engines of global growth, especially for developing countries, may no longer lie solely in the traditional developed country markets in the USA, Europe and Japan, known collectively as the global North. Rather South-South trade is growing rapidly, and that could be an engine of growth for the global economy, including both developed and developing countries. The various chapters in this edited volume address issues surrounding global imbalances and the prospects for growth in developing countries propelled by South-South interaction. This book should be of interest to students and researchers focussing on political economics, international economics, globalization, global imbalance and the world-wide recession after 2008.
