Book International Perspectives On Psychological Science II The State of the Art

Download or read book International Perspectives On Psychological Science II The State of the Art written by Paul Bertelson and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-24 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays appearing in these two volumes are based on Keynote (Vol. 1) and State-of-the-Art (Vol. 2) Lectures delivered at the XXVth International Congress of Psychology, in Brussels, July 1992. The Brussels Congress was the latest in a series of conferences which are organized at regular intervals under the auspices of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), the main international organization in the field of Scientific Psychology. The first of those meetings took place in Paris in 1889. An important function of the International Congresses is to promote communication between different specializations in Psychology. Speakers were therefore asked to present lectures and discussions in their own fields of study, in a way that would be accessible to fellow psychologists active in other fields. State-of-the-Art lecturers were specifically asked to prepare a tutorial review on a topic which, in the view of the Program Committee, had recently given rise to particularly important developments. These contributions are included in Volume Two. Keynote lecturers were left free to address whatever subject they felt was of greatest interest. The chapters in Volume 1 are preceded by the Presidential Address by Mark R. Rosenzweig.

Book International Perspectives on Psychological Science Cognition and neuropsychology

Download or read book International Perspectives on Psychological Science Cognition and neuropsychology written by Peter A. Frensch and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cognition and Neuropsychology is dedicated to summarizing and characterizing the current scientific research in three substantive content areas, (i) Perception, Attention, and Action, (ii) Social Cognition, and (iii) Learning, Memory, and Development. While some of the contributions focus on relatively narrow areas of research, others adopt a much broader stance, trying to understand and explain many different facets of behaviour across widely differing situations. Some contributions even try to bridge the fundamental gap between behaviour and genetics. The final part contains two chapters that discuss fundamental general issues in psychology, such as the fate of mentalism and the significance of phenomenal analyses. All chapters offer fascinating insights into current theorizing on the mind, and are written by some of the best-known scholars of our time. --

Book Teaching Critical Psychology

Download or read book Teaching Critical Psychology written by Craig Newnes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume may be the 'definitive text' on methods and content in teaching psychology from an international and critical perspective. Chapters from internationally renowned contributors working clinically, educationally and in the community with a range of client groups, outline critical teaching by and for professionals and service recipients. This timely book offers a unique, research-based and philosophically coherent approach to teaching psychology including teaching methods, the lecture content of radical approaches to modern psychology and debates as to whether the aim of teaching is to liberate or control. Themes include the nature of pedagogy, the importance of teaching and learning style, the relevance of context and content and the ways in which traditional teaching forms a part of the disciplinary rather than critical project. Teaching Critical Psychology offers guidance in teaching pupils, students, peers and those on academic programmes at under-graduate and post-graduate level.
