Book International Cooperation in Criminal Matters

Download or read book International Cooperation in Criminal Matters written by Isolda Lins Ribeiro and published by Initia Via Editora. This book was released on 2029-08-28 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite of the United Nations (UN) efforts to encourage the fight against transnational organized crime (TOC) , the most effective model of cooperation nowadays comes from the European Union (EU). Aware of the threat represented by the TOC, the EU developed, in 1999, a “comprehensive strategy on tackling TOC” . Through this innovative approach, audacious and dynamic tools were built, both in theory as in practice. Having established the “principle of mutual recognition of judicial decisions” as the cornerstone of cooperation, the EU created the European Arrest Warrant, which was responsible for breaching all parameters of cooperation then known. A solid operational structure also contributed to enhance cooperation, through the enlargement of the Europol’s mandate and establishment of new bodies to foment judicial cooperation . Considering the latest EU’s legal improvements in the field, the South American region could possibly benefit from the implementation of the “principle of mutual recognition”, in terms of an arrest warrant. With regard to the operative structure, the establishment of a police force, in the model of Europol, could possibly profit the researched region. Initia Via Editora

Book G8 against Transnational Organized Crime

Download or read book G8 against Transnational Organized Crime written by Amandine Scherrer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fight against money laundering, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, cyber crime, and the promotion of the enhancement of judicial and police cooperation in criminal matters have been at the core of the G8's actions in this field since the 1990s. This book sheds light on the nature, structure and modus operandi of the G8's specific expertise on transnational organized crime from a sociological approach in order to understand the elaboration, production and diffusion of international norms and standards. It provides a detailed analysis of an under-researched aspect of international politics: the intensification of expert-level exchanges on the international stage over the enhanced cooperation against transnational organized crime that has led to an impressive elaboration of best practices and soft law recommendations. Very few studies have focused on the experts who determine these: who they are, what their socio-professional background is, and the nature and impact of their collective work in the global fight against organized crime.

This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the end of the Cold War, states have become increasingly engaged in the suppression of transnational organised crime. The existence of the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime and its Protocols demonstrates the necessity to comprehend this subject in a systematic way. Synthesizing the various sources of law that form this area of growing academic and practical importance, International Law and Transnational Organised Crime provides readers with a thorough understanding of the key concepts and legal instruments in international law governing transnational organised crime. The volume analyses transnational organised crime in consideration of the most relevant subareas of international law, such as international human rights and the law of armed conflict. Written by internationally recognized scholars in international and criminal law as well as respected high-level practitioners, this book is a useful tool for lawyers, public agents, and academics seeking straightforward and comprehensive access to a complex and significant topic.

Book Histories of Transnational Criminal Law

Download or read book Histories of Transnational Criminal Law written by Neil Boister and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection provides an in-depth account of the history of key developments in transnational criminal law. While the history of international criminal law is now a much written about topic, the origins of most modern transnational criminal laws are not well understood. Histories of Transnational Criminal Law provides for the first time a set of legal histories of state efforts to combat and cooperate against transnational crime. With contributions from a group of word-leading experts, this edited volume traverses a range of topics, beginning with the normative, intellectual, and institutional histories of transnational criminal law. It then moves to the histories of specific transnational crimes ranging across eras from piracy to cybercrime, and finishes by examining jurisdiction, modes of liability, different forms of procedural cooperation, and the predicament of the individual in transnational criminal law. The book highlights specific issues and how they have been resolved, in the loose assemblage of norms, institutions, and practices that constitutes transnational criminal law.
