Book excerpt: As the subject of tribology comprises lubrication, friction and wear of contact components highly relevant to practical applications, it challenges scientists from chemistry, physics and materials engineering around the world on todays sophisticated experimental and theoretical foundation to complex interdisciplinary research. Recent results and developments are preferably presented and evaluated in the context of established knowledge. Consisting of eleven chapters divided into the four parts of Lubrication and Properties of Lubricants, Boundary Lubrication Applications, Testing and Modeling, and Sustainability of Tribosystems, this textbook therefore merges basic concepts with new findings and approaches. Tribology Fundamentals and Advancements, supported by competent authors, aims to convey current research trends in the light of the state of the art to students, scientists and practitioners and help them solve their problems.

Book Engineering Tribology

Download or read book Engineering Tribology written by Gwidon Stachowiak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-03-31 with total page 831 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As with the previous edition, the third edition of Engineering Tribology provides a thorough understanding of friction and wear using technologies such as lubrication and special materials. Tribology is a complex topic with its own terminology and specialized concepts, yet is vitally important throughout all engineering disciplines, including mechanical design, aerodynamics, fluid dynamics and biomedical engineering. This edition includes updated material on the hydrodynamic aspects of tribology as well as new advances in the field of biotribology, with a focus throughout on the engineering applications of tribology. This book offers an extensive range if illustrations which communicate the basic concepts of tribology in engineering better than text alone. All chapters include an extensive list of references and citations to facilitate further in-depth research and thorough navigation through particular subjects covered in each chapter. - Includes newly devised end-of-chapter problems - Provides a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms of wear, lubrication and friction in an accessible manner designed to aid non-specialists - Gives a reader-friendly approach to the subject using a graphic illustrative method to break down the typically complex problems associated with tribology

Book Tribocatalysis Tribochemistry and Tribocorrosion

Download or read book Tribocatalysis Tribochemistry and Tribocorrosion written by Czeslaw Kajdas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the triboemission of low-energy electrons from the freshly generated surface. These electrons play the most crucial role in the chemical reactions at the tribological interface. New models and TIP (thermodymanics of irreversible processes) describe in detail the behavior of emitted electrons which lower the activation energy of the chemical reactions. This book also highlights tribocatalysis phenomena as examples of the lowering of the activation energy. A book titled Tribocatalysis has never been published before this.

Book Silicon Carbide Ceramics

Download or read book Silicon Carbide Ceramics written by Andrew J. Ruys and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-01-22 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been three decades since the last significant book was published on SiC ceramics (other than those books that specifically focus on SiC semiconductors). Thirty years has been a long time in the world of SiC ceramics. In the early 1990s, SiC was still a relatively obscure ceramic even within the materials community, prominent only as an industrial abrasive (carborundum), and a refractory (Chapter 7). This has all changed dramatically in the 21st century. For example, - As a semiconductor, SiC greatly surpasses silicon in performance, especially in high-power systems. Its market penetration since its launch in 2001 has been exponential. Single-crystal SiC semiconductors are covered in Chapter 3 - Millions of military and paramilitary personnel have globally been protected with lightweight SiC body armour, since the late 1990s. Body armour is covered in Chapters 4 and 5 - SiC–SiC is a composite material close to commercialization that makes possible high-temperature load-bearing applications hitherto only able to be hypothesized: from ultra-high-temperature jet turbine blades to advanced nuclear fuel encapsulation, the possibilities are very promising. Aerospace applications are covered in Chapter 9 - Other key areas that are addressed are blast-resistant SiC vehicle/vessel armour in Chapter 8 and wear-resistant SiC ceramics in Chapter 6 - Silicon Carbide Ceramics will be an essential reference resource for academic and industrial researchers and materials scientists and engineers working in ceramic materials for the semiconductor, defence, aerospace, wear resistance and refractory fields - Presents an extensive review of the history, production and properties of SiC ceramics, including their characterization and applications - Discusses classical and state-of-the-art sintering technologies for SiC ceramics - Focuses on the future of ceramic manufacturing and advanced ceramic additive technologies

Book Developments in Numerical and Experimental Methods Applied to Tribology

Download or read book Developments in Numerical and Experimental Methods Applied to Tribology written by D. Dowson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Numerical and Experimental Methods Applied to Tribology contains the proceedings of the 10th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology held at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France, on September 6-9, 1983. The papers explore developments in numerical and experimental methods used in tribology and cover topics ranging from ferrography and rheology to bearings and bearing dynamics, hydrodynamics, contact phenomena, and plasticity. The papers are organized into 13 sessions. The first two papers examine the use of ferrography in the analysis of non-ferrous particles as well as some of the methods of obtaining approximate numerical solutions to boundary-value problems that arise in elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The next session is concerned with rheology and contains papers that describe numerical solutions for power law fluids as applied to slider bearings; grease lubricated finite length bearings; and the use of the ball bearing as rheological test device. The papers that follow discuss bearings and their dynamics, oil films on lubricated surfaces, hydrodynamic lubrication, and finite element analysis of transient elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The final session considers plastic deformation, two body abrasion processes, and micropitting and asperity deformation. This monograph will appeal to tribologists.
