Book Interkulturelle Kommunikation Im Globalen Bildungsraum mit Beitr gen Auf Deutsch Englisch und Russisch

Download or read book Interkulturelle Kommunikation Im Globalen Bildungsraum mit Beitr gen Auf Deutsch Englisch und Russisch written by Vasiliy Kovalev and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This anthology adresses the topic of interculturality and, therefore, includes articles in English, German and Russian. In the context of the ongoing globalization, intercultural communication becomes increasingly important: global mobility and division of labour, free travelling combined with new communication technologies encourages exchange between people from different cultures. This requires intercultural competence and communication skills not only in private contexts but on the labour market as well. From different points of view the authors of this book discuss the relevance of intercultural communication. By showing how different disciplines deal with this topic the book gives the reader a multiperspective insight on the discourse of interculturality.

Book Interkulturelle Kompetenz

Download or read book Interkulturelle Kompetenz written by Alois Moosmüller and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2020 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Foundations of Global Communication

Download or read book Foundations of Global Communication written by Kai Hafez and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-05-30 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a wide-ranging theoretical and empirical overview of the disparate achievements and shortcomings of global communication. This exceptionally ambitious and systematic project takes a critical perspective on the globalization of communication. Uniquely, it sets media globalization alongside a plethora of other globalized forms of communication, ranging from the individual to groups, civil society groupings, commercial enterprises and political formations. The result is a sophisticated and impressive overview of globalized communication across various facets, assessing the phenomena for the extent to which they live up to the much-hyped claims of globalization’s potential to create a globally interdependent society. The setbacks of globalization, such as right-wing populism and religious fundamentalism, can only be understood if the shortcomings of global communication are taken more seriously. Covering all types of cross-border global communication in media, political and economic systems, civil societies, social media and lifeworlds of the individual, this unique book is invaluable for students and researchers in media, communication, globalization and related areas.

Book Going Global

Download or read book Going Global written by Amy Hodges and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-26 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While English has become the lingua franca in science, business, and other fields, scholars still grapple with the implications of its adoption in many other settings and cultures. To what extent should English be introduced and taught in schools around the world? Who “owns” the English language and can therefore shape its structure and aims? What are world Englishes and how can teachers demonstrate them to their students? Is English the language of the oppressor, an imperialist tool, or does global English offer an opportunity for greater understanding and cooperation amongst peoples and cultures? This volume of critical essays explores these and other questions surrounding language, education, and culture in the globalized world. Honoring students’ cultures while trying to prepare them for an uncertain and constantly changing future is the resounding theme of this book. The contributors to this volume are as multi-cultural and multi-faceted as such a volume would demand. The essays include authors and studies from Algeria, India, Iran, Ghana, Germany, Poland, Tunisia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Yemen. The perspectives offered in this volume contribute greatly to the ongoing conversations on language, education, and globalization.

Book Kulturenorientierte Bildung

Download or read book Kulturenorientierte Bildung written by Ina Baumann and published by Springer-Verlag. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book World in Transition Ways Towards Global Environmental Solutions

Download or read book World in Transition Ways Towards Global Environmental Solutions written by German Advisory Council on Global change (WBGU) and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the first Conference of the Parties of the Climate Convention in Berlin in Spring 1995 it became evident once again: To counteract anthropogenic climate changes, individuals as well as societies have to change their way of thinking and behavior. This accounts for other areas of global environmental change as well. Global trends like soil degradation, loss of biological diversity, water scarcity and population growth show little or no sign of improvement. In fact, in most areas a rapid deterioration has taken place. In its latest Report the German Advisory Council on Global Change describes "Ways Towards Global Environmental Solutions".

Book Women in Global Migration 1945 2000

Download or read book Women in Global Migration 1945 2000 written by Eleanore O. Hofstetter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2001-03-30 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With large numbers of people migrating to other countries after World War II, a substantial amount of scholarship has focused on the status, problems, and successes of women immigrants since 1945. The first comprehensive compilation of the international literature on these women, this bibliography--with over 5,100 entries--reveals the breadth of scholarship on feminist immigration issues. Focusing particularly on sources from North America and Western Europe, where most immigrant women settled, the book includes feminist analyses, bibliographies, demographic studies, economic comparisons, educational research, health and medical reports, legal discussions, biographies and autobiographies, psychological case studies, religious reports, sociological investigations, and publications dealing with general aspects of female immigration. The book covers such legal issues as citizenship, international conventions on contract workers, the traffic in women, and services and government benefits to immigrants. Medical entries include such topics as female genital mutilation, comparative obstetric results, and equity of treatment. Education entries cover such subjects as adult education and the second-language programs necessary for assimilation. With entries in several languages, the bibliography includes books, journal articles, essays and chapters in books, dissertations, ERIC reports, national and international government documents, and statistical sources. With immigration a major political and social issue in most countries today, the book provides an important research tool.

Book Preschool Bilingual Education

Download or read book Preschool Bilingual Education written by Mila Schwartz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an up-to-date collection of key aspects related to current preschool bilingual education research from a socio-linguistic perspective. The focus is on preschool bilingual education in multilingual Europe, which is characterized by diverse language models and children's linguistic backgrounds. The book explores the contemporary perspectives on early bilingual education in light of the threefold theoretical framework of child's, teachers', and parents' agencies in interaction in preschool bilingual education. Five significant theoretical concepts are promoted in this volume: the ecology of language learning, an educational partnership for bilingualism, a notion of agency in early language development and education, language-conducive contexts, and language-conducive strategies. The volume examines preschool bilingual education as embedded in specific socio-cultural contexts on the one hand and highlights its universal features on the other. The book is a fundamental read for scholars and students of second language teaching, preschool education, and bilingual education in multilingual and multicultural societies.

Book The Soft Power of the Russian Language

Download or read book The Soft Power of the Russian Language written by Arto Mustajoki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-12 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Russian as a pluricentric language, this book provides a panoramic view of its use within and outside the nation and discusses the connections between language, politics, ideologies, and cultural contacts. Russian is widely used across the former Soviet republics and in the diaspora, but speakers outside Russia deviate from the metropolis in their use of the language and their attitudes towards it. Using country case studies from across the former Soviet Union and beyond, the contributors analyze the unifying role of the Russian language for developing transnational connections and show its value in the knowledge economy. They demonstrate that centrifugal developments of Russian and its pluricentricity are grounded in the language and education policies of their host countries, as well as the goals and functions of cultural institutions, such as schools, media, travel agencies, and others created by émigrés for their co-ethnics. This book also reveals the tensions between Russia’s attempts to homogenize the 'Russian world' and the divergence of regional versions of Russian reflecting cultural hybridity of the diaspora. Interdisciplinary in its approach, this book will prove useful to researchers of Russian and post-Soviet politics, Russian studies, Russian language and culture, linguistics, and immigration studies. Those studying multilingualism and heritage language teaching may also find it interesting.

Book Understanding the Dynamics of Global Inequality

Download or read book Understanding the Dynamics of Global Inequality written by Alexander Lenger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-03 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the fact that the globalization process tends to reinforce existing inequality structures and generate new areas of inequality on multiple levels, systematic analyses on this very important field remain scarce. Hence, this book approaches the complex question of inequality not only from different regional perspectives, covering Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin and Northern America, but also from different disciplinary perspectives, namely cultural anthropology, economics, ethnology, geography, international relations, sociology, and political sciences. The contributions are subdivided into three essential fields of research: Part I analyzes the socio-economic dimension of global exclusion, highlighting in particular the impacts of internationalization and globalization processes on national social structures against the background of theoretical concepts of social inequality. Part II addresses the political dimension of global inequalities. Since the decline of the Soviet Union new regional powers like Brazil, China, India and South Africa have emerged, creating power shifts in international relations that are the primary focus of the second part. Lastly, Part III examines the structural and transnational dimension of inequality patterns, which can be concretized in the rise of globalized national elites and the emergence of multinational networks that transcend the geographical and imaginative borders of nation states.

Book Citizen Consciousness in Cambodia

Download or read book Citizen Consciousness in Cambodia written by Johannes Ph. Backhaus and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-28 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johannes Ph. Backhaus applies the Model of Education Reconstruction (MER) to the context of a social accountability intervention in Cambodia. This book is not an evaluation but adopts a qualitative perspective on the learning approach applied by the researched intervention. The research found that the learning intervention does not systematically include learners’ pre-existing social knowledge. It would potentially benefit from systematically harvesting and reinforcing pre-held convictions to sustainably motivate participation. It does not address potentially sensitive topics while interviewees show a sophisticated and holistic understanding of these. Finally, there are inconsistencies between the program’s aims and objectives. In sum, the piloted approach offers pathways on how to beneficially include qualitative perspectives on similar development interventions.
