Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Interesting Account of Several Remarkable Visions, and of the Late Discovery of Ancient American Records And it pleased God, on the evening of the 21st of September, A. D. 1823, to again hear his prayers. For he had retired to rest, as usual, only that his mind was drawn out in fervent prayer, and his soul was filled with the most earnest desire, to commune with some kind messenger, who could communicate to him the desired information of his acceptance with God, and also unfold the principles of the doctrine of Christ, ac cording to the promise which he had received in the former vision. While he thus continued to pour out his desires before the Father of all good, endeavouring toexercise faith in his precious promises; on a sud den, a light, like that of day, only of a purer and far more glorious appearance and brightness, burst into the room. Indeed, the first sight was as though the house was filled with consuming fire. This sudden appearance of a light so bright, as must naturally be expected, occasioned a shock or sensation visible to the extremities of the body. It was, however, followed with a calmness and serenity of mind, and an over whelming rapture ofjoy, that surpassed understanding, and, in a moment, a personage stood before him. Book excerpt: Truth be Told is an amazing account of the visions, faith and doctrine of the early church. The author calls it An Interesting Account of Several Remarkable Visions, and of the late discovery of ancient American records. Initially published for missionaries, Orson Pratt recounts several early church events, including the story of Joseph Smith, the first vision, Angel Moroni’s visit to the boy prophet, and the translation of the Book of Mormon. Included in this work is the story by Oliver Cowdery regarding Joseph’s receiving the gold plates and translation of the Book of Mormon. In this book you will learn in greater detail the design, make-up and construction of the stone box built by Moroni to conceal the plates and how the plates were preserved to come forth in this day. You will discover the location where Joseph found the gold plates in the Hill Cumorah and how Moroni used the hill’s layout to his advantage to keep the plates hidden until Joseph’s day. This book also includes the testimony of the three and eight witnesses as recorded in the Book of Mormon, along with a brief account of the restoration of the priesthood and baptism of Joseph and Oliver. It’s a remarkable and enlightening writing by Orson Pratt and a well-deserved addition to any LDS collection.
