Book Effective Collaborative Communication in Hospice Care

Download or read book Effective Collaborative Communication in Hospice Care written by Ami Ashleigh Bhatt and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork are necessary components for collaborative communication to occur between team members in a hospice admissions setting. Team interactions require trust, confidence and an equal effort by all team members. Effective communication can be achieved through collaborative communication between team members in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings and research has been done to support this concept. However, there is a dearth of research regarding overall collaborative communication in teams and specifically data examining communication in admission teams between clinical and non-clinical team members is limited. The study tested a survey instrument that will be piloted for future research efforts to evaluate the collaborative communication between the clinical and nonclinical team members in the hospice admissions setting. Interdisciplinary collaboration in a hospice and palliative care setting is influenced by effective communication.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teamwork is essential to improving the quality of patient care and reducing medical errors and injuries. But how does teamwork really function? And what are the barriers that sometimes prevent smart, well-intentioned people from building and sustaining effective teams? Collaborative Caring takes an unusual approach to the topic of teamwork. Editors Suzanne Gordon, Dr. David L. Feldman, and Dr. Michael Leonard have gathered fifty engaging first-person narratives provided by people from various health care professions. Each story vividly portrays a different dimension of teamwork, capturing the complexity—and sometimes messiness—of moving from theory to practice when it comes to creating genuine teams in health care. The stories help us understand what it means to be a team leader and an assertive team member. They vividly depict how patients are left out of or included on the team and what it means to bring teamwork training into a particular workplace. Exploring issues like psychological safety, patient advocacy, barriers to teamwork, and the kinds of institutional and organizational efforts that remove such barriers, the health care professionals who speak in this book ultimately have one consistent message: teamwork makes patient care safer and health care careers more satisfying. These stories are an invaluable tool for those moving toward genuine interprofessional and intraprofessional teamwork.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The style of leadership in an interdisciplinary collaboration is an existing gap in collaborative literature. Studying the leaders in an existing interdisciplinary collaboration provided a description of the leadership style of the collaborative leaders of three behavioral health teams in New York City. This qualitative phenomenological study used structured interviews of interdisciplinary disciplines to describe the leadership style of the collaborative leaders within a team environment. The data collection and analysis were conducted using codes to identify dominant themes. The themes presented perceptions and experiences of three teams interacting collaboratively. The coding process identified five major themes that are unique components of leadership that suggests new methods of building collaborative leadership within the interdisciplinary team dynamics.

Book Exploring Compassion Fatigue Among Members of the Interdisciplinary Hospice Team

Download or read book Exploring Compassion Fatigue Among Members of the Interdisciplinary Hospice Team written by Eileen R. Sudeck and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Healthcare professionals experience a significant amount of stress in their day-to-day practice. Studies to date, however, of end-of-life care to the terminally ill have been quite limited. The intent of this study was to explore the relationship between work-related stress and the development of compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and burnout among members of the hospice interdisciplinary team. In this qualitative study, a sample of 17 members of the ProCare Hospice interdisciplinary care team was used to identify their experience with work-related stress associated with the treatment of the terminally ill. These team members included the medical director, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, medical social workers, chaplains and certified home health aides. Using a semi-structured interview guide, questions were designed to probe into the meaning their work held for the team members. Major stressors that were identified included closeness to the death experience, sadness of loss, over-attachment to patients and their families, and viewing the prolonged struggle families experience with end-of-life issues. Included in the organizational stressors they experience were staffing shortages, on-call schedules, heavy patient loads, paperwork, and the need for greater support from management. Despite all these, it was found that the protective factors of self-care, informal peer support and meaningful work experiences contribute to greater compassion satisfaction. Continued research would be helpful in exploring the effectiveness of these protective factors among hospice teams in other geographical communities.

Book Effective Interprofessional Education

Download or read book Effective Interprofessional Education written by Hugh Barr and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a systematic review of interprofessional education in health and social care. This is accompanied by a wider-ranging critique of interprofessional education, grounded by experience, and informed by sources beyond the evaluations that qualified for inclusion in the review. Synthesising the evidence base for interprofessional education nevertheless remains central, with 353 studies surveyed in the first instance, from which 107 studies form the basis for the final analysis. The book does much more than amass evidence. It revisits conventional wisdom; setting an agenda to help interested parties perform better by applying lessons learned, remedying weaknesses and renewing efforts to address unanswered questions. The first three chapters set the scene for the systematic review and its findings. The middle section of the book articulates the findings of the review. Finally, the closing chapters consider values and attitudes, theoretical perspectives and offer conclusions. Arguments, assumptions and evidence in this publication are presented to inform policy making, programme planning, teaching and research.
