Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2 In China, there are more than 2,759 lakes with surface area greater than 1km , and 2 the total lake area is 91,019km . One-third of these lakes are freshwater lakes, and the majority are situated in the middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang River or in eastern China’s coastal areas. These lakes function as drinking water supplies, ood control systems, aquaculture and tourism resources, navigation channels, etc. Recently, many shallow lakes in China have been subject to rapid eutrophication and suffer from algal blooms. This issue has resulted in a shortage of drinking water and in degradation of their ecosystems. The control of eutrophication of shallow lakes is one of the main issues with which the local people and Chinese governments are concerned today. Lake Taihu is the third largest freshwater lake in China, with an area of about 2 2338km and a mean depth of 1. 9m, a typical shallow lake located in the delta of Changjiang River, the most industrialized and urbanized area in China. Its main function is supplying drinking water for the surrounding cities, such as Wuxi, Suzhou, and Shanghai, but tourism, aquaculture, sheries, and navigation are imp- tant as well. However, with economic development and increased population in the lake basin, Lake Taihu has suffered increasingly from serious eutrophication. The environmental issue of Lake Taihu is now a very common one, as most lakes from eastern China are confronted with it.

Book The Lakes Handbook

Download or read book The Lakes Handbook written by Patrick O'Sullivan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuing concern about water supply and quality, ecosystem sustainability and restoration demands that the modern approach to the management of lakes and reservoirs should be based on a sound understanding of the application of the scientific and ecological principles that underlie freshwater processes. The Lakes Handbook provides an up-to-date overview of the application of ecologically sound approaches, methods and tools using experience gained around the world for an understanding of lakes and their management. Volume one of the Handbook addresses the physical and biological aspects of lakes pertinent to lake management, emphasising those aspects particularly relevant to large, still bodies of water. Volume two then considers lake management, with particular emphasis on sustainability, restoration and rehabilitation. This handbook will be invaluable to ecologists, environmental scientists, physical geographers and hydrologists involved in limnological research, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students looking for authoritative reviews of the key areas of limnological study. Brings together basic science and management issues. International coverage and international authors. Reviews management issues at a level suitable for the non-expert.

Book A Little Guide for Teachers Engaging Parents and Carers with School

Download or read book A Little Guide for Teachers Engaging Parents and Carers with School written by Emma Kell and published by Sage Publications UK. This book was released on 2022-10-28 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Little Guide for Teachers: Engaging Parents and Carers with Schools builds on author experience, and findings from the spotlight thrown on home-school relationships during Covid-19, to provide teachers with effective strategies to enhance these relationships and instill confidence in teachers working with parents. The Little Guide for Teachers series is little in size but BIG on all the support and inspiration you need to navigate your day to day life as a teacher. · Authored by experts in the field · Easy to dip in-and-out of · Interactive activities encourage you to write into the book and make it your own · Fun engaging illustrations throughout · Read in an afternoon or take as long as you like with it! "This may be pitched as a "little guide", but goodness me it’s packed with wisdom and practical advice that any professional working in our school system will find absolute gold dust when it comes to the sometimes-tricky challenge of parental engagement. Building not only the authors’ many years of personal experience, the guide draws on their own research and that of many other leaders in this field to create a superbly grounded yet optimistic set of ideas, tips and reflection points. I love how the authors challenge so many orthodoxies, such as flipping the concept of the "hard-to-reach family" into the "hard-to-reach school". Throughout the book is an implicit thread that will be familiar to those versed in the principles and power of effective coaching, exploring important topics such as building relationships, listening and getting the right tone and balance in all communication. This is a refreshing, accessible and eminently practical guide in an often-neglected area that will be invaluable for teachers and leaders at all levels within schools. Highly recommend!" - Andy Buck, best-selling author, speaker, trainer and coach.
