Book Integrated Multidisciplinary Approaches in the Study and Care of the Human Eye

Download or read book Integrated Multidisciplinary Approaches in the Study and Care of the Human Eye written by P. Causin and published by Kugler Publications. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ForewordThe human eye offers the extraordinary possibility to visualize and monitor non-invasively, in vivo, in humans, many morphological and haemodynamical features. Therefore, a large amount of data on ocular structures and macro- and micro-circulation can be obtained in a clinical setting during a patient's visit. However, the interpretation of these data remains a very challenging task, since the understanding of the physiology, bio-mechanics and fluid-dynamics of the human eye remains scarce. This unmet gap between the availability of imaging data and their elusive clinical interpretatio...

Book Glaucoma Research and Clinical Advances 2016 to 2018

Download or read book Glaucoma Research and Clinical Advances 2016 to 2018 written by P.A. Knepper and published by Kugler Publications. This book was released on 2016-02-19 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first volume of the New Concepts in Glaucoma series was conceived as a platform to express new ideas and approaches to understanding and solving primary open-angle glaucoma. The authors have attempted to expand levels of knowledge, present new ideas and challenge existing theories. Although the authors have painted a broad picture, the central theme of the book is to ask the right questions and seek the answers for patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this contributed volume showcase current theoretical approaches in the modeling of ocular fluid dynamics in health and disease. By including chapters written by experts from a variety of fields, this volume will help foster a genuinely collaborative spirit between clinical and research scientists. It vividly illustrates the advantages of clinical and experimental methods, data-driven modeling, and physically-based modeling, while also detailing the limitations of each approach. Blood, aqueous humor, vitreous humor, tear film, and cerebrospinal fluid each have a section dedicated to their anatomy and physiology, pathological conditions, imaging techniques, and mathematical modeling. Because each fluid receives a thorough analysis from experts in their respective fields, this volume stands out among the existing ophthalmology literature. Ocular Fluid Dynamics is ideal for current and future graduate students in applied mathematics and ophthalmology who wish to explore the field by investigating open questions, experimental technologies, and mathematical models. It will also be a valuable resource for researchers in mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science, chemistry, ophthalmology, and more.

Book Intraocular and Intracranial Pressure Gradient in Glaucoma

Download or read book Intraocular and Intracranial Pressure Gradient in Glaucoma written by Ningli Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-30 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the characteristic of glaucomatous optic neuropathy and its relationship with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure. It also explores the potential novel methods to manage glaucoma by adjusting CSF pressure. This book covers several interesting topics such as why normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients still develops into glaucoma without high intraocular pressure (IOP); and whether there are factors other than IOP contributing to the pathogenesis of NTG why the role of IOP in the pathogenesis of POAG becomes vague and controversial. This book contains over 40 chapters, including numerous images from clinical patients and experiments on gross anatomy, pathological tissue, and immunohistochemistry, electronic speculum etc. The ophthalmologists and researchers can also benefit from the clinical cases. We hope this book serves as a clinical guidance with practical significant for the understanding, prevention and diagnosis of glaucoma.

Book The Integration of the Humanities and Arts with Sciences Engineering and Medicine in Higher Education

Download or read book The Integration of the Humanities and Arts with Sciences Engineering and Medicine in Higher Education written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, broad study in an array of different disciplines â€"arts, humanities, science, mathematics, engineeringâ€" as well as an in-depth study within a special area of interest, have been defining characteristics of a higher education. But over time, in-depth study in a major discipline has come to dominate the curricula at many institutions. This evolution of the curriculum has been driven, in part, by increasing specialization in the academic disciplines. There is little doubt that disciplinary specialization has helped produce many of the achievement of the past century. Researchers in all academic disciplines have been able to delve more deeply into their areas of expertise, grappling with ever more specialized and fundamental problems. Yet today, many leaders, scholars, parents, and students are asking whether higher education has moved too far from its integrative tradition towards an approach heavily rooted in disciplinary "silos". These "silos" represent what many see as an artificial separation of academic disciplines. This study reflects a growing concern that the approach to higher education that favors disciplinary specialization is poorly calibrated to the challenges and opportunities of our time. The Integration of the Humanities and Arts with Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Higher Education examines the evidence behind the assertion that educational programs that mutually integrate learning experiences in the humanities and arts with science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) lead to improved educational and career outcomes for undergraduate and graduate students. It explores evidence regarding the value of integrating more STEMM curricula and labs into the academic programs of students majoring in the humanities and arts and evidence regarding the value of integrating curricula and experiences in the arts and humanities into college and university STEMM education programs.

Book Remov d from human eyes Madness and Poetry 1676 1774

Download or read book Remov d from human eyes Madness and Poetry 1676 1774 written by Natali, Ilaria and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The years 1676 and 1774 marked two turning points in the social and legal treatment of madness in England. In 1676, London’s Bethlehem Hospital expanded in grand new premises, and in 1774 the Madhouses Act attempted to limit confinement of the insane. This study explores almost a century of the English history of madness through the texts of five poets who were considered mentally troubled according to contemporary standards: James Carkesse, Anne Finch, William Collins, Christopher Smart and William Cowper were hospitalized, sequestered or exiled from society. Their works cope with representations of insanity, medical definitions or practices, imputed illness, and the judging eye of the ‘sane other’, shedding new light on the dis/continuities in the notion of madness of this period.

Book Integrating the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases in HIV AIDS tuberculosis and sexual and reproductive health programmes

Download or read book Integrating the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases in HIV AIDS tuberculosis and sexual and reproductive health programmes written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011, heads of state and government at the United Nations General Assembly formally acknowledged that NCDs are one of the major challenges to development and committed to integrate NCD prevention and control into other programmes, such as for HIV and broader maternal and child health programmes, especially in PHC. The commitment to integrate NCDs into existing disease programmes was reaffirmed again through its NCD resolutions at its Third High-level Meeting in 2018. This guidance outlines strategic actions and practical solutions in response to the challenges of integration of NCDs, as appropriate and relevant to the country context. The objective is to maximize the impact of health services and extend access to NCD care. The target readership is policymakers, programme managers and health providers. The guidance should also be useful for WHO and international partners (including donors and banks) that champion integrated support for NCD service delivery in countries and better management.
