Book Integrated Hydrogeological Model of the General Separations Area Vol 2 Rev 1

Download or read book Integrated Hydrogeological Model of the General Separations Area Vol 2 Rev 1 written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 15 mi2 General Separations Area (GSA) contains more than 35 RCRA and CERCLA waste units, and is the focus of numerous ongoing and anticipated contaminant migration and remedial alternatives studies. To meet the analysis needs of GSA remediation programs, a groundwater flow model of the area based on the FACT code was developed. The model is consistent with detailed characterization and monitoring data through 1996. Model preprocessing has been automated so that future updates and modifications can be performed quickly and efficiently. Most remedial action scenarios can be explicitly simulated, including vertical recirculation wells, vertical barriers, surface caps, pumping wells at arbitrary locations, specified drawdown within well casings (instead of flowrate), and wetland impacts of remedial actions. The model has a fine scale vertical mesh and heterogeneous conductivity field, and includes the vadose zone. Therefore, the model is well suited to support subsequent contaminant transport simulations. the model can provide a common framework for analyzing groundwater flow, contaminant migration, and remedial alternatives across Environmental Restoration programs within the GSA.

Book Environmental Risk Assessment

Download or read book Environmental Risk Assessment written by Ian Lerche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-04-03 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores environmental and human risk problems caused by contamination, from the perspective of real world applications with quantitative procedures. It includes risk methods for environmental problems where data are sparse or fuzzy, and incorporates political, social and economic considerations in determining directions of remediation solutions for environmental contaminant problems. It highlights the impact of contaminants on human health – sometimes fatal - and the anthropogenic exacerbation of natural processes.

Book Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology

Download or read book Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology written by Derek Ford and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-03 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1989, Karst Geomorphology and Hydrology became the leading textbook on karst studies. This new textbook has been substantially revised and updated. The first half of the book is a systematic presentation of the dissolution kinetics, chemical equilibria and physical flow laws relating to karst environments. It includes details of the many environmental factors that complicate their chemical evolution, with a critique of measurement of karst erosion rates. The second half of the book looks at the classification system for cave systems and the influence of climate and climatic change on karst development. The book ends with chapters on karst water resource management and a look at the important issues of environmental management, including environmental impact assessment, environmental rehabilitation, tourism impacts and conservation values. Practical application of karst studies are explained throughout the text. "This new edition strengthens the book's position as the essential reference in the field. Karst geoscientists will not dare to stray beyond arm's reach of this volume. It is certain to remain the professional standard for many decades." Journal of Cave and Karst Studies, August 2007
