Dans la premiere edition, le plan ordinaire des etudes chirurgicales avait deja subi des modifications qui etaient dans les v ux de la science et les interets de la pratique. La pathologie externe et la medecine operatoire ont ete reunies systematiquement, et le chapitre sur les tumeurs du livre de Boyer a ete remplace par une section sur les maladies des tissus. J'ai expose: 1 la chirurgie generale; 2 la chirurgie des tissus; 3 la chirurgie des regions. Dans chacune de ces grandes divisions, les lesions physiques, les lesions vitales et les degenerescences ont ete etudiees. Partout j'ai cherche a eclairer, quelquefois a contenir la medecine operatoire par la pathologie. Au commencement du premier volume, on trouve une sorte d'introduction contenant quelques principes de pathologie et de medecine operatoire. Ces generalites forment les Protegomenes, divises en cinq parties: 1 Diagnostic chirurgical. Les sens sont passes en revue; leur importance, leur mode d'application sont indiques; l'esprit intervient activement dans la distinction des maladies chirurgicales. 2 Medecine operatoire.
