He miraculously escaped, and after a daring flight into Russia he participated in the liberation of Poland as part of the re-formed Polish army. After the war Leo immigrated to the United States, where he has lived for the past 60 years. He has a son, Daniel, who lives in London and three grandchildren: Henry, Alex and Emily. Leo lives in New York City with his long-time companion Tove.
