This book was released on 2012-03-22 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) are unique economic and governance events as privately held firms issue common stock or shares to the public for the first time. The governance issues surrounding IPOs are relatively unexamined compared to more established, and usually larger, firms. As such, they provide a unique context to study corporate governance and its development around the world. Based on a collaborative international research project, this book analyses the corporate governance of IPOs in twenty-one countries, each of which is characterized by different governance environments and different levels of IPO activity. The end result is a broad and deep assessment of governance practices and IPO activity for an array of economies that represent roughly 80 percent of the global economy. These chapters collectively provide new insights into what a global theory of corporate governance might look like and offer guidance to policy makers and academics regarding national governance configurations.

Using extensive proprietary research, this practical guide contains never-before-published findings that provide revelatory statistics that can help you learn how to find big, winning stocks early. Full color charts and graphics for easy reference. "Which of the following statements are true? 1. 20% of IPOs gain 100% or more within their first year. 2. Over 90% of IPOs eventually trade below their first day low. They are both true! IPOs provide great opportunities, but they are also replete with severe drawdowns that can leave traders with net losses, even for those stocks that are eventual big winners. This succinct volume dispels some of the misconceptions about IPOs and should serve as a useful aid in navigating the treacherous waters of IPO trading and in formulating your own trading plan for these unique stocks." -Jack Schwager, Market Wizards, The New Market Wizards, Stock Market Wizards, Hedge Fund Market Wizards, The Little Book of Market Wizards, Market Sense and Nonsense, Schwager on Futures, Getting Started in Technical Analysis, Complete Guide to Mastering the Markets "As a career futures and forex trader, I have always been intrigued by growth stocks, but never developed the skill to identify the 10X or 20X winners. The Lifecycle Trade is the first book I have read that could help an equities trader gain that skill in a methodical and systematic way. Kudos to the authors for putting a bookend to the earlier works by Peter Lynch." -Peter Brandt, Diary of a Professional Commodity Trader, Trading Commodity Futures with Classical Chart Patterns "A fabulous read for anyone wanting to get an understanding of how to jump on a large, winning IPO and avoid getting ruined by Wall Street's pump-and-dump scheme, which can ruin the average investor." -Dan Zanger, Chartpattern.com, Momentum Masters "An important idea conveyed by Boboch, Donnelly, Krull, and Daill is that stocks follow a Lifecycle Pattern from IPO-infancy to maturation. Understanding where a stock is in its lifecycle provides important clues as to how to trade and invest." -Brett H. Book The Phenomenon of IPO Underpricing in the European and U S Stock Markets

This book was released on 2014-06-23 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Initial Public Offering (IPO) marks one of the most important events of a company. Basically, the aim is to generate maximum proceeds by selling the company’s shares to investors. However, the shares that are sold seem to be underpriced as the price significantly soars on the first trading day. Since the very first detection of this phenomenon in the United States in 1969, several subsequent studies have documented the existence of worldwide IPO underpricing. This study focuses on IPO Underpricing in the European and United States Stock Markets by outlining and discussing the following essential issues: What is underpricing in the context of the IPO? Which motivations are there and how do they impact? Is there IPO underpricing in the markets of Europe and the United States of America?

The recorvery process is developing constantly but slowly: Share prices have rebounded within 2009, worldwide trade volumes have recovered slightly and are expected to catch up with values from the end of 2008 during the next year (cf. OECD 2009). The world is recovering from one of the most severe economic downturns since The Great Depression. Comparing GDP volumes from the previous period at the same time, OECD countries lost up to 2%. As a logical consequence the U.S. IPO market has been affected by the economic meltdown as well. "IPO activity tends to cluster in certain time periods, thus it appears in waves, so-called hot IPO markets" (Hamer 2007, 9). From 2007 to 2008 th e number of IPOs decreased. The U.S. market broke down by more than 85% in one year. In 2007 there were 160 IPOs whereas in 2008 21 securities went public fort the first time (cf. Ritter 2010, 2). After the slowest year for IPOs since the 1970s, the market began to show signs of life again in 2009. The number of offerings increased by 21% although the offering value decreased by almost 15% (cf. PWC 2010). [...]
