Book Innovative and Agile Contracting for Digital Transformation and Industry 4 0

Download or read book Innovative and Agile Contracting for Digital Transformation and Industry 4 0 written by Shalan, Mohammad Ali and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital transformation is reshaping the business arena as new, successful digital business models are increasing agility and presenting better ways to handle business than the traditional alternatives. Industry 4.0 affects everything in our daily lives and is blurring the line between the physical, the biological, and the digital. This created an environment where technology and humans are so closely integrated that it is impacting every activity within the organizations. Specifically, contracting processes and procedures are challenged to align with the new business dynamics as traditional contracts are no longer fitting today's agile and continuously changing environments. Businesses are required to facilitate faster, more secure, soft, and real-time transactions while protecting stakeholders’ rights and obligations. This includes agile contracts which are dynamically handling scope changes, smart contracts that can automate rule-based functions, friction-less contracts that can facilitate different activities, and opportunity contracts that looks toward the future. Innovative and Agile Contracting for Digital Transformation and Industry 4.0 analyzes the consequences, benefits, and possible scenarios of contract transformation under the pressure of new technologies and business dynamics in modern times. The chapters cover the problems, issues, complications, strategies, governance, and risks related to the development and enforcement of digital transformation contracting practices. While highlighting topics in the area of digital transformation and contracting such as artificial intelligence, digital business, emerging technologies, and blockchain, this book is ideally intended for business, engineering, and technology practitioners and policy makers, along with practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students interested in understanding the scope, complexity, and importance of innovative contracts and agile contracting.

Book Innovative Government Contracting

Download or read book Innovative Government Contracting written by Jeanine Avant and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historically, the United States Federal Government has been conservative in its contracting practices. These practices are codified in law by the "Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)". In some cases, past practices have not adequately met the need to better address value-to-cost, to shorten procurement times and to operate more adaptively in response to rapidly changing technology and social demands. Until recently, the US Government has continued the status quo (such as "firm fixed price") rather than to assume the risks associated with change. Innovative contracting techniques were developed more in foreign countries than in the United States. The last decade, however, has seen a turn about as the US Government has engaged more innovation in procurements. This report examines innovative contracting techniques utilized by both Federal and State activities: Construction and Services by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC); Construction by State Departments of Transportation (DOT's); and Space Systems Development by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Book Performance Effectiveness of Design build Lane Rental and A B Contracting Techniques

Download or read book Performance Effectiveness of Design build Lane Rental and A B Contracting Techniques written by Kelly Strong and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimentation with innovative contracting methods over the last several years has produced several techniques recently formally approved for use by the Federal Highway Administration. While the FHWA has recognized and defined many standard practices for innovative contracting, the need has arisen to compare the effectiveness of different innovative contracting methods to each other. Performance and cost and value implications of A+B contracts, design-build contracts, lane rental contracts, and traditional contracts were investigated. Specific performance and cost measures considered are Administration Costs, Project Costs, Management Complexity, Disruption to Third Parties, RUC, Innovation, Product/Process Quality, and Funding Flexibility. Performance parameters are compared on nine different project types; the methodology utilized a survey of national experts who rated each innovative contracting method for each performance factor on each of the project types. This study resulted in fifteen recommendations for improving management practices in the use of innovative contracting for transportation projects. These recommendations are also intended to assist the Minnesota Department of Transportation in determining which contract method is likely to be most effective given certain project criteria and construction options and to determine directions for future research, particularly on emerging methods such as design-sequencing and A + B + C contracting.
