Pero, así como todos los derechos tienen limitaciones en su ejercicio, también son en esta materia fuertemente vulnerados y no satisfechos como debieran. Un recorrido que va desde las declaraciones Universales de derechos, hasta las Directivas comunitarias y los Convenios Internacionales en la materia, pasando por el derecho español e italiano, resulta ambicioso y no exento de complejidad. Sin embargo, el carácter transversal de este estudio permite hacer una visión tridimensional de aquellas personas que, en muchas ocasiones, el ordenamiento jurídico las coloca en un ?limbo jurídico? y contradictorio sin que nuestras conciencias sepan reaccionar a tiempo. Es verdad que el sol luce para todos, pero, tristemente, el orden internacional instaurado en nuestro primer mundo, olvida esta afirmación. La soberanía nacional de los Estados emerge de manera defensiva, sin necesidad de que reciba el agua del egoísmo. El mensaje del Papa Francisco es contundente y firme en el cambio de las conciencias por un principio de solidaridad universal. Pero ¿calarán sus palabras en algunos dirigentes?

El respeto efectivo de los Derechos Humanos (universales, indivisibles, interdependientes, inalienables e irrenunciables) interesa a todos y a todas. Cuando algún grupo de personas sufre su violación, otras personas (en esta hipótesis, muchos ciudadanos de la Unión) no se dan cuenta de que se cuestiona, sufre y peligra la misma esencia de la democracia.

This unique study of migrant domestic workers in the North uncovers some uncomfortable facts about the race and class aspects of domestic oppression. Based on original research, it looks at the racialisation of paid domestic labour in the North - a phenomenon which challenges feminsim and political theory at a fundamental level. The book opens with an exploration of the public/private divide and an overview of the debates on women and power. The author goes on to provide a map of employment patterns of migrant women in domestic work in the North; she describes the work they perform, their living and working conditions and their employment relations. A chapter on the US explores the connections between slavery and contemporary domestic service while a section on commodification examines the extent to which migrant domestic workers are not selling their labour but their whole personhood. The book also looks at the role of the Other in managing dirt, death and pollution and the effects of the feminisation of the labour market - as middle class white women have greater presence in the public sphere, they are more likely to push responsibility for domestic work onto other women. In its depiction of the treatment of women from the South by women in the North, the book asks some difficult questions about the common bond of womanhood. Packed with information on the numbers of migrant women working as domestics, the racism, immigration or employment legislation that constrains their lives, and testimonies from the workers themselves, this is the most comprehensive study of migrant domestic workers available.

Migrant Youth, Transnational Families, and the State examines the draconian immigration policies that detain unaccompanied migrant children and draws on U.S. historical, political, legal, and institutional practices to contextualize the lives of children and youth as they move through federal detention facilities, immigration and family courts, federal foster care programs, and their communities across the United States and Central America. Through interviews with children and their families, attorneys, social workers, policy-makers, law enforcement, and diplomats, anthropologist Lauren Heidbrink foregrounds the voices of migrant children and youth who must navigate the legal and emotional terrain of U.S. immigration policy. Cast as victims by humanitarian organizations and delinquents by law enforcement, these unauthorized minors challenge Western constructions of child dependence and family structure.
