Book excerpt: Tak may be in over his head against Shingo in a downhill with his hand fastened to the steering wheel, especially considering that this kind of race favors an FF like Shingo’s Civic against an FR like Tak’s Eight Six. Tak’s life is changing in so many other ways, too. Bunta waxes emotional about his Zen-like training of the increasingly popular Akina downhill specialist, expressing for the first time the importance of Tak’s racing reputation to his own ego, and Natalie advances ever-closer to the edge of a romantic relationship with Tak. And, in a related development, how will the racing scene in Gunma change if Ry actually does get an offer to race professionally in Tokyo?

Book Treasures of a Lost Art

Download or read book Treasures of a Lost Art written by Pia Palladino and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2003 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Treasures of a Lost Art presents 144 leaves, cuttings, and illuminated manuscript fragments from the collection of Robert Lehman (1891-1969), one of the largest and most impressive private holdings of Italian manuscripts assembled after the First World War. Discussed here - with many of them handsomely illustrated in full color - are important examples of the major schools of illumination in southern Italy, Umbria, Tuscany, Emilia, Lombardy, and the Veneto. Previously unpublished, and perhaps even unknown to scholars, are works by some of the foremost Italian painters of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, including a leaf here attributed for the first time to the Sienese master Duccio di Buoninsegna and cuttings by Stefano da Verona and Cosimo Tura. Lesser-known arists, such as Neri da Rimini, Belbello da Pavia, and Girolamo da Cremona, once renowned for their beautifully illuminated volumes, are also discussed in full."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Constraints and Preferences

Download or read book Constraints and Preferences written by Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kolaczyk and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-06-24 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central theme of this collection is the epistemological status of constraints and preferences in linguistics. The contributions focus mainly on phonology; one article deals explicitly with morphology. The approaches to phonology represented in the volume are those of Natural Phonology, Government Phonology, Optimality Theory, autosegemental phonology, and computational phonology. Constraints are juxtaposed either to rules or to preferences in the discussion of constraint-based vs. preference-based theories.

New information is provided about the Psalter?'s medieval and later components, its liturgical and other functions, missing illuminations and texts, as well as its provenance and date. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jehan et Blonde is the second somewhat better-known of Philippe de Remi's two verse romances. It is presented here in a scholarly edition accompanied by a facing translation into English and an ample commentary. In addition, this volume contains the rest of Philippe's works as preserved in the unique manuscript, Paris BNF fr. 1588: eight substantial verse compositions offering much variety in length, tone, and content. Two other bodies of work are also included: eleven songs in BNF fr. 24006 (of which ten are surely by him) and the series of 'Resveries' in BNF fr. 837 now generally ascribed to him. The volume, a companion to Le Roman de la Manekine (1999), rounds out the complete works of this 13th-century land-holder, professional administrator, family man, gifted amateur writer, and lover of literature. It includes the first English translation of Jehan et Blonde and is the only edition of Philippe's works to contain the songs and the 'Resveries.' It should be of interest to specialists in medieval French romance and lyric verse, and also to general readers of medieval narrative who find English translations useful.

Book Morphology and Language History

Download or read book Morphology and Language History written by Claire Bowern and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume aims to make a contribution to codifying the methods and practices linguists use to recover language history, focussing predominantly on historical morphology. The volume includes studies on a wide range of languages: not only Indo-European, but also Austronesian, Sinitic, Mon-Khmer, Basque, one Papuan language family, as well as a number of Australian families. Few collections are as cross-linguistic as this, reflecting the new challenges which have emerged from the study of languages outside those best known from historical linguistics. The contributors illustrate shared methodological and theoretical issues concerning genetic relatedness (that is, the use of morphological evidence for classification and subgrouping), reconstruction and processes of change with a diverse range of data. The volume is in honour of Harold Koch, who has long combined innovative research on understudied languages with methodological rigour and codification of practices within the discipline.
