Book Global Engineering Manufacturing and Enterprise Networks

Download or read book Global Engineering Manufacturing and Enterprise Networks written by John P.T. Mo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The availability of effective global communication facilities in the last decade has changed the business goals of many manufacturing enterprises. They need to remain competitive by developing products and processes which are specific to individual requirements, completely packaged and manufactured globally. Networks of enterprises are formed to operate across time and space with world-wide distributed functions such as manufacturing, sales, customer support, engineering, quality assurance, supply chain management and so on. Research and technology development need to address architectures, methodologies, models and tools supporting intra- and inter-enterprise operation and management. Throughout the life cycle of products and enterprises there is the requirement to transform information sourced from globally distributed offices and partners into knowledge for decision and action. Building on the success of previous DrrSM conferences (Tokyo 1993, Eindhoven 1996, Fort Worth 1998), the fourth International Conference on Design of Information Infrastructure Systems for Manufacturing (DrrSM 2000) aims to: • Establish and manage the dynamics of virtual enterprises, define the information system requirements and develop solutions; • Develop and deploy information management in multi-cultural systems with universal applicability of the proposed architecture and solutions; • Develop enterprise integration architectures, methodologies and information infrastructure support for reconfigurable enterprises; • Explore information transformation into knowledge for decision and action by machine and skilful people; These objectives reflect changes of the business processes due to advancements of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the last couple of years.

Book Software Infrastructure Labor

Download or read book Software Infrastructure Labor written by Ned Rossiter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrastructure makes worlds. Software coordinates labor. Logistics governs movement. These pillars of contemporary capitalism correspond with the materiality of digital communication systems on a planetary scale. Ned Rossiter theorizes the force of logistical media to discern how subjectivity and labor, economy and society are tied to the logistical imaginary of seamless interoperability. Contingency haunts logistical power. Technologies of capture are prone to infrastructural breakdown, sabotage, and failure. Strategies of evasion, anonymity, and disruption unsettle regimes of calculation and containment. We live in a computational age where media, again, disappear into the background as infrastructure. Software, Infrastructure, Labor intercuts transdisciplinary theoretical reflection with empirical encounters ranging from the Cold War legacy of cybernetics, shipping ports in China and Greece, the territoriality of data centers, video game design, and scrap metal economies in the e-waste industry. Rossiter argues that infrastructural ruins serve as resources for the collective design of blueprints and prototypes demanded of radical politics today.

Book Transforming Enterprise Cloud Services

Download or read book Transforming Enterprise Cloud Services written by William Y Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The broad scope of Cloud Computing is creating a technology, business, sociolo- cal, and economic renaissance. It delivers the promise of making services available quickly with rather little effort. Cloud Computing allows almost anyone, anywhere, at anytime to interact with these service offerings. Cloud Computing creates a unique opportunity for its users that allows anyone with an idea to have a chance to deliver it to a mass market base. As Cloud Computing continues to evolve and penetrate different industries, it is inevitable that the scope and definition of Cloud Computing becomes very subjective, based on providers’ and customers’ persp- tive of applications. For instance, Information Technology (IT) professionals p- ceive a Cloud as an unlimited, on-demand, flexible computing fabric that is always available to support their needs. Cloud users experience Cloud services as virtual, off-premise applications provided by Cloud service providers. To an end user, a p- vider offering a set of services or applications in the Cloud can manage these off- ings remotely. Despite these discrepancies, there is a general consensus that Cloud Computing includes technology that uses the Internet and collaborated servers to integrate data, applications, and computing resources. With proper Cloud access, such technology allows consumers and businesses to access their personal files on any computer without having to install special tools. Cloud Computing facilitates efficient operations and management of comp- ing technologies by federating storage, memory, processing, and bandwidth.

Book Infrastructures for Virtual Enterprises

Download or read book Infrastructures for Virtual Enterprises written by Luis M. Camarinha-Matos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of virtual organizations, and industrial virtual enterprises in particular, is attracting a large and growing interest both in terms of the research and development and the implementation of new business practices. An ever-increasing number of international projects and national initiatives have been launched recently. Most of the earlier efforts are focused on the development of supporting infrastructures, although more and more initiatives now pursue the exploitation of this concept in business terms. Being a recent research and development area, and in spite of the mentioned interest, there is a lack of a structured and comprehensive text that can be used as a reference source. Most available literature is dispersed in several conference proceedings, journals, and book chapters. This book represents an attempt towards such structured text. Although the book was prepared in the framework of PRO-VE'99, a working conference on infrastructures for virtual enterprises organized by the Esprit project PRODNET II and IFIP, it has the goal of covering more generic VE requirements and addressing several other approaches and important aspects in this paradigm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains revised and extended versions of selected papers from the Fifth International Symposium on Business Modeling and Software Design, BMSD 2015, held in Milan, Italy, in July 2015. The symposium was organized and sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Institute for Collaboration and Research on Enterprise Systems and Technology (IICREST), being co-organized by Politecnico di Milano and technically co-sponsored by BPM-D. Cooperating organizations were Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), the U Twente Center for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT), the BAS Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI), the Dutch Research School for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS), and AMAKOTA Ltd. BMSD 2015 received 57 paper submissions from which 36 papers were selected for publication in the BMSD'15 proceedings. 14 of those papers were selected as full papers. Additional post-symposium reviewing was carried out reflecting both the qualities of the papers and the way they were presented. 10 best papers were selected for the Springer edition (mainly from the BMSD'15 full papers). The 10 papers published in this book were carefully revised and extended (following the reviewers' comments) from the papers presented. The selection considers a large number of BMSD-relevant research topics: from business-processes-related topics, such as process mining and discovery, (dynamic) business process management (and process-aware information systems), and business process models and ontologies (including reflections into the Business Model Canvas); through software-engineering-related topics, such as domain-specific languages and software quality (and technical debt); and semantics-related topics, such as semantic technologies and knowledge management (and knowledge identification); to topics touching upon cloud computing and IT-enabled capabilities for enterprises.
