Book Infrared Airglow and Contamination Modeling

Download or read book Infrared Airglow and Contamination Modeling written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes work performed to evaluate our understanding of infrared (IR) atmospheric phenomenology through comprehensive analysis of spectral and in-band radiance field data. Computer models of atmospheric IR radiation used for these analyses include the standard AFRL codes MODTRAN, SHARC, and SAMM. MODTRAN is a rapid, local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) code for low- to moderate-resolution spectra. SHARC calculates emission and transmission spectra in the 2 - 40 micrometers region for arbitrary line-of-sight (LOS) paths between 50 and 300 km for both quiescent and auroral conditions. SAMM is the result of integrating MODTRAN and SHARC into a single, seamless code with a unified and correlated radiative transport algorithm applicable at altitudes from ground to 300 km. Detailed comparisons of the models with spectral and in-band radiance data from the CIRRIS-1A Shuttle experiment demonstrate the predictive capabilities of the background models, as well as the variability of IR atmospheric radiance over time and geographic location. In addition, MODTRAN upgrades which address the data/model comparisons and the investigation into the accuracy of MODTRAN in selected radiation transfer applications are discussed.

This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background modeling and foreground detection are important steps in video processing used to detect robustly moving objects in challenging environments. This requires effective methods for dealing with dynamic backgrounds and illumination changes as well as algorithms that must meet real-time and low memory requirements. Incorporating both established and new ideas, Background Modeling and Foreground Detection for Video Surveillance provides a complete overview of the concepts, algorithms, and applications related to background modeling and foreground detection. Leaders in the field address a wide range of challenges, including camera jitter and background subtraction. The book presents the top methods and algorithms for detecting moving objects in video surveillance. It covers statistical models, clustering models, neural networks, and fuzzy models. It also addresses sensors, hardware, and implementation issues and discusses the resources and datasets required for evaluating and comparing background subtraction algorithms. The datasets and codes used in the text, along with links to software demonstrations, are available on the book’s website. A one-stop resource on up-to-date models, algorithms, implementations, and benchmarking techniques, this book helps researchers and industry developers understand how to apply background models and foreground detection methods to video surveillance and related areas, such as optical motion capture, multimedia applications, teleconferencing, video editing, and human–computer interfaces. It can also be used in graduate courses on computer vision, image processing, real-time architecture, machine learning, or data mining.

Book excerpt: The High Altitude Effects Simulation (HAES) Program compromises several groupings of separate, but interrelated technical activities, e.g., ICECAP (Infrared Chemistry Experiments-Coordinated Auroral Program). Each of the latter have the common objectives of providing information ascertained as essential for the development and validation of predictive computer codes designed for use with high priority DoD radar, communications, and optical defensive systems. Since the inception of the HAES Program, significant achievements and results have been described in reports published by DNA, participating service laboratories, and supportive organizations. This report is the 70th report in the HAES series.

Book An Outline for the RTNEPH Infrared Atmospheric Water Vapor Attenuation Study

Download or read book An Outline for the RTNEPH Infrared Atmospheric Water Vapor Attenuation Study written by Robert Paul D'Entremont and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Real-Time Nephanalysis (RTNE PH) generates real-time global analysis of cloud extent, base, height, and type. The RTNE PH makes extensive use of satellite data that are measured in the 10-12 micron infrared (IR) window for thermal mapping of clouds and the earth's surface both day and night. Water vapor absorption effects are significant in such data, especially for high viewing angles and tropical atmospheres where water vapor concentrations are generally high. Water vapor attenuates the emitted ground radiance, reducing its magnitude and with it the apparent temperature of the surface being viewed. Currently, the RTNEPH takes into account such attenuation losses using lookup tables that are functions of viewing geometry, time of day, type of background, and the like. However, these corrections have limited value and leave room for significant improvement. This report outlines and presents two new techniques that are expected to enhance the attenuation correction capabilities of the RTNEPH, multivariate polynomial regression (the Weinreb technique) and the correlated K method.

Book Modeling the Effects of Atmospheric Propagation for Spectral Libraries of Natural Backgrounds

Download or read book Modeling the Effects of Atmospheric Propagation for Spectral Libraries of Natural Backgrounds written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The statistics of natural backgrounds extracted from an Airborne Visible and Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) hyperspectral datacube collected over Fort AP Hill, VA, were used to demonstrate the effects of the two atmospheric components of a statistical end-to-end performance prediction model. New capabilities in MODTRAN(tm)5 were used to generate coefficients for linear transformations used in the atmospheric transmission and compensation components of a typical end-to-end model. Model radiance statistics, calculated using reflectance data, is found to be similar to the original AVIRIS radiance data. Moreover, if identical atmospheric conditions are applied in the atmospheric transmission and in the atmospheric compensation model components and the effects of sensor noise are disregarded, the resulting reflectance statistics are identical to the original reflectance statistics.
