El Subcomite observo que las Directrices deberian reflejar mejor el entorno actual del comercio internacional de productos pesqueros y el caracter dinamico de este comercio, lo que exigia mirar hacia el futuro y un enfoque proactivo. Otros factores importantes que debian considerarse eran la sostenibilidad de las pesquerias, la pesca ilegal, no declarada y no reglamentada (INDNR) y las practicas postcaptura. La finalidad de esta Consulta de expertos era examinar dichas Directrices teniendo en cuenta las observaciones formuladas por el Subcomite."
