Book Influence of Staple Length Variations on the Spinning Performance and Yarn Quality of Cotton Classic Reprint

Download or read book Influence of Staple Length Variations on the Spinning Performance and Yarn Quality of Cotton Classic Reprint written by Clarence D. Rogers and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Influence of Staple-Length Variations on the Spinning Performance and Yarn Quality of Cotton Each mix was processed into 40s yarn with a twist multiplier. The 17 mixes were replicated 2 times for a total of 34 spinning lots. All mixes were processed identically from opening through roving. At spinning, new travelers were used with each spinning lot. In order to break in these new travelers and obtain yarn for sizing, a startup period of about 30 minutes was required. If the yarn was not the specified size, changes in the draft gear were made. Cocke and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spinning Performance and Yarn Quality as Influenced by Harvesting, Ginning, and Mill-Processing Methods Two harvest methods were used. One-half of the cotton was defoliated and harvested before frost using two spindle-type pickers in a once-over operation on October 25, 1974. The remaining one-half was harvested by brush stripper after frost between November 1 and December 3, 1974. The prolonged harvest period was a result of constant rains that prevented operation of the stripper except for short periods. Book Effects of Reclaimed Gin Loss Cotton on Lint Quality and Spinning Performance Classic Reprint

Download or read book Effects of Reclaimed Gin Loss Cotton on Lint Quality and Spinning Performance Classic Reprint written by Shelby Herbert Holder and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-11 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Effects of Reclaimed Gin-Loss Cotton on Lint Quality and Spinning Performance Fiber arrays for reclaimed gin - loss cotton and for ginned lint showed that the overall length of gin-loss cotton was shorter than ginned lint from the same bale. E/ Array test results for this study were not consistent with this relationship, blended lots showed less short fiber than nonblended lots. Even though reclaimed fiber was blended into a bale continuously during gin ning, its small proportional share of the total mass would.make it particularty difficult to obtain representative fiber arrays. The significant difference in micronaire readings was probably due to inherent variability of cotton fibers. Since both lots had average fineness, the slight difference is probably not of practical importance. Nonblended and blended lots differed significantly in percent of waste removed by opening and picking, and carding processes. Blended lots averaged percent more total waste than nonblended lots (table This means that a blended 500-pound bale had pounds more waste than a nonblended.bale. However, according to the test results, an average of pounds of reclaimed fiber was added.per 500 pounds for blended lots. Thus, assuming that the pound increase in opener, picker, and card waste was due to blending. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Buford Williamson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparative Effects of Mechanical Picking Spindles and Handpicking on Cotton Quality and Spinning Performance in Mississippi, 1960-63 The 3 - year average fiber strength of handpicked cotton measured with the zero gage was lower than that of spindle-picked cotton. However, when measured with the -inch gage, this average was higher than that of spindle-picked cotton. Thus, there appears to be little real difference in fiber strength of lint picked by hand or by any of the three types of spindles. Book Multiple Lint Cleaning at Cotton Gins

Download or read book Multiple Lint Cleaning at Cotton Gins written by Zolon Marion Looney and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Multiple Lint Cleaning at Cotton Gins: Effects on Bale Value, Fiber Properties, and Spinning Performance Nevertheless, as the practice of lint cleaning, and particularly multiple lint cleaning, became more common, growers, ginners, manufacturers, and others have expressed serious doubts about its effects on the quality of cotton and about the economic soundness of it. Growers and ginners have raised questions about the effects of lint cleaning on returns to growers and on ginning costs. Manufacturers have expressed doubts about the effects of lint cleaning on the fiber properties of cotton, on the spinning performance of cleaned cotton, and on the quality of yarns made from such cotton. Claims have been made that lint cleaning so seriously damages cotton fibers that it increases manufacturing costs, reduces the quality of textile products, and reduces the competitive position of cotton in relation to other fibers. Because of the serious nature of these questions in terms of the long-run interest of all segments of the cotton and textile industry, the U. S.
