Book Apatites and their Synthetic Analogues

Download or read book Apatites and their Synthetic Analogues written by Petr Ptáček and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-04-13 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apatite-type minerals and their synthetic analogues are of interest of many industrial branches and scientific disciplines including material sciences, chemical industry, agriculture, geology, medicine and dentistry. This book provides a basic overview of general knowledges of this topic in order to provide the comprehensive survey from a scientific and technological perspective. The book is divided into 10 chapters, which are devoted to the structure and properties of minerals from the supergroup of apatite, experimental techniques of preparation and characterization of synthetic analogues of apatite minerals, substitution in the structure of apatite as well as utilization of these materials in wide range of common and special advanced applications in industry, material sciences and research. Additionally, the phosphate rocks, their classification, geological role, mining and beneficiation of phosphate ore, production of elemental phosphorus, phosphoric acid and fertilizers are also described. Although this book is meant for chemist, material scientist and research engineers, the individual chapters contain theoretical background, historical aspects as well as examples of synthetic and analytical methods which may be also interesting for students and non-expert readers as well.

Book Sulfur Oxidation Influence on Rock Phosphate Solubilization in Soil

Download or read book Sulfur Oxidation Influence on Rock Phosphate Solubilization in Soil written by Osni Correa de Souza and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The low solubility of many rock phosphate (RP) around the world is the main cause of their ineffectiveness when applied to soil as a source of P for crops. The low solubility decreases their value as P fertilizers and prevents their widespread use, especially for high P demanding crops. One method proposed to enhance RP solubility is to add sulfur (S) as an amendment. The oxidation of S to H2SO4 in the soil results in dissolution of the applied RP. This study tested three Brazilian RP sources (Araxa, Catalao, and Patos de Minas) mixed with S at a ratio of 5:1 (RP:S). The application of the RP-S mixtures proved to be a promising alternative method for increasing RP solubility and thus their effectiveness as P sources. The soil pH decreased proportionally to increasing rates of RP-S application. The NaHCO3 extractable soil P increased as a consequence of increased soil acidefication. The ryegrass growth, P uptake, plant P concentration and P recovered from RP sources were enhanced only when S was mixed with the RPs. On the other hand, when RP sources were applied directly without S, the available soil P as measured by NaHCO3 extraction was depleted with time regardless of source or rate of RP. The inefficiency of the directly applied RP sources to supply adequate P was evidenced by less plant growth than applied with S. Also, in addition to this inadequate supply of for plant assimilation, the directly applied RP sources failed to develop a residual reserve of available P in the soil, even at very high application ...

Book Phosphorus in Agriculture 100 Zero

Download or read book Phosphorus in Agriculture 100 Zero written by Ewald Schnug and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title ‘Phosphorus in Agriculture: 100 % Zero’ is synonymous for make-or-break. And it stands up to the promise. This book sends an important message as it delivers background information, intrinsic hypotheses, validation approaches and legal frameworks, all for balanced phosphorus fertilization in agriculture. This implies firstly that the phosphorus requirement of crop is fully satisfied by applying exclusively fertilizers which contain the nutrient in completely available form. Secondly, environmental demands through eutrophication and hazardous contaminants must not be compromised. The book identifies equally knowledge gaps and deficits in the transformation and implementation of research into practice. Bottom line is that research delivers the tools for a sustainable phosphorus management while legal frameworks are insufficient.
