Book Influence of Rare Earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys Room Temperature Tensile Properties and Fracture Toughness of Ti 6Al 4V with Erbium Yttrium and Yttria Additions

Download or read book Influence of Rare Earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys Room Temperature Tensile Properties and Fracture Toughness of Ti 6Al 4V with Erbium Yttrium and Yttria Additions written by C. R. Whitsett and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of additions of 0.1 wt% Er, 0.02 wt% Y, 0.05 wt% Y, and 0.038 wt% Y2O3 on the room-temperature tensile properties and fracture toughness of Ti-6Al-4V was studied. The alloys were cast by consumable-electrode arc-melting in vacuum. Er and Y were added in the form of Ti-25Er and Ti-25Y master alloys, and Y2O3 was added in the form of a fine powder. The alloys, after being forged and rolled, had only about half the nominal concentrations of rare-earth additives. The rolled plates were given various heat treatments to observe the combined effects of microstructure and rare-earth additives. The rare-earths effect grain refinement. The room-temperature tensile properties and fracture toughness of Ti-6Al-4V are not significantly altered by the rare-earths. The crystallographic texture developed during rolling also is unaffected by the rare-earth additives, although Y and Y2O3 effect an increased sharpness of near-transverse-basal texture components in alpha-beta annealed alloy. The uniform elongation of Ti-6Al-4V under tensile stress at high temperatures is increased by Er and Y additions. The high-temperature compressive stress-strain characteristics of heat treated Ti-6Al-4V are not altered by Er and Y. (Author).

Whitsett and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of different concentrations of metallic yttrium, erbium, and mischmetal (MM) on the microstructure and room-temperature mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V was studied. Alloy ingots containing 0.02-0.3 wt% Y, 0.1-2.0 wt% Er, and 0.01-0.2 wt% MM were cast, forged, hot-rolled, and mill-annealed in the alpha-beta and beta fields. The metallic rare-earth additions produce a uniform dispersion of small (

Book Influence of Rare Earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys Effects of Yttrium and Erbium Additions on Ti 8Al and Ti 10Al Alloy

Download or read book Influence of Rare Earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys Effects of Yttrium and Erbium Additions on Ti 8Al and Ti 10Al Alloy written by S. M. L. Sastry and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of additions of 0.05-1.0 wt% Y and 0.2-2.0 wt% Er on the microstructure, slip distribution, fracture modes, and room- and elevated-temperature mechanical properties of Ti-8Al and Ti-10Al alloys was studied. Additions of up to 0.1 wt% Y and 0.2 wt% Er result in 50-200 nm incoherent dispersoids which effect grain refinement, reduce the planarity of slip, and significantly increase the ductility of Ti-8Al alloys. The additions further improve the room-temperature fracture toughness and room- and elevated-temperature low-cycle fatigue life of Ti-8Al and do not significantly alter the creep of Ti-8Al and Ti-10Al alloys. Higher amounts of Y and Er additions produce large, 1-5 micron dispersoids and produce no significant grain refinement or improvements in strength and ductility of the alloys.

Book Influence of Rare earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys

Download or read book Influence of Rare earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys written by T. C. Peng and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effects of 0.01-2.0 wt% yttrium and erbium additions on rapid solidification processing, superplastic forming, welding, and strengthening of titanium alloys were determined. Ti-8Al-Y and Ti-8Al-Er alloys were rapidly solidified by laser surface melting and electron beam melting and splat-quenching with the objective of simultaneously producing coherent Ti3Al precipitates and incoherent dispersoids. Rapid solidification at cooling rates> 10,000 K/s resulted in 10-100 nm incoherent dispersoids in Ti-8Al-1.5Y and in a nonequilibrium, supersaturated, solid solution Ti-8Al-1.5Si. Dispersoid formation and stability at 700-900 C were studied, and the annealing conditions for the production of a large volume-fraction of fine incoherent dispersoids and of coherent Ti3Al precipitates were determined. Metallic yttrium additions to Ti-6Al-2Nb-1Mo-0.8Ta improved the superplastic formability and increased the strength and ductility of laser weldments. The superposition of solid-solution strengthening, precipitation strengthening, and grain-size strengthening in ingot processed Ti-xAl (x = 4, 5.5, 7.0, 8.5, and 10.0) alloys was studied.

Book Influence of Rare Earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys Plane Strain Fracture Toughness Creep and High Temperature Deformation of Ti 6Al 4V with Erbium and Yttrium Additions

Download or read book Influence of Rare Earth Additions on Properties of Titanium Alloys Plane Strain Fracture Toughness Creep and High Temperature Deformation of Ti 6Al 4V with Erbium and Yttrium Additions written by Shankar M. L. Sastry and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of additions of 0.05 wt% Y and 0.1 wt% Er on the room-temperature tensile properties, plane-strain and plane-stress fracture toughness, creep, and high-temperature high-strain-rate deformation characteristics of Ti-6Al-4V was studied. 75kg ingots of Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-4V-0.05Y and Ti-6Al-4V-0.1Er were cast, forged, and rolled into 80-mm, 30-mm, and 13-mm plates. The Y and Er additions reduce the high-temperature flow stress of Ti-6Al-4V at strain rates of 0.05 and 0.5/s and significantly improve ingot-breakdown forging by suppressing the edge cracking. The Y-containing Ti-6Al-4V has lower flow stress and higher strain-rate sensitivity of flow stress and consequently better superplasticity than the reference alloy at 906 C at strain rates of .00001 to .001/s. The room-temperature plane-strain fracture toughness, yield stress, ductility, and high-temperature creep are not significantly altered by the rare-earth additions. (Author).
