Book Influence of Pitching Moment Characteristics on Departure and Uncoordinated Roll Reversal Boundaries for Fighter Configurations

Download or read book Influence of Pitching Moment Characteristics on Departure and Uncoordinated Roll Reversal Boundaries for Fighter Configurations written by William Bihrle (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is reported which generated design charts and developed associated boundaries for identifying departure and uncoordinated roll-reversal flight characteristics as a function of aerodynamic rolling and yawing moment coefficients typical of fighter airplanes for various pitching moment characteristics. This information should be valuable for specification, design and evaluation purposes. The investigation utilized a large angle, six-degree-of-freedom digital computer program to simulate the motions of a fighter performing a severe air combat maneuver. The results showed that the developed uncoordinated roll reversal boundaries may be applied to any fighter configuration and that the developed departure boundaries are applicable to fighter configurations exhibiting static pitch stability. Unaugmented airframes having pitch instability impose more stringent requirements on the rolling and yawing moment coefficients to avoid departure susceptibility. A simple angle-of-attack feedback augmentation system can markedly improve the departure resistance of both stable and unstable airframes given sufficient control authority. (Author).

Book Design Charts and Boundaries for Identifying Departure Resistant Fighter Configurations

Download or read book Design Charts and Boundaries for Identifying Departure Resistant Fighter Configurations written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is reported which generated design charts and developed associated boundaries for identifying departure and uncoordinated roll-reversal flight characteristics as a function of three aerodynamic parameters. This information should be valuable for specification, design and evaluation purposes. The investigation utilized a large angle, six-degree-of-freedom digital computer program to simulate the motions of a fighter performing a severe air combat maneuver for different combinations of rolling and yawing coefficient and lateral control characteristics.

Book Flight Dynamics Principles

Download or read book Flight Dynamics Principles written by Michael V. Cook and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2012-10-03 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of flight dynamics requires a thorough understanding of the theory of the stability and control of aircraft, an appreciation of flight control systems and a grounding in the theory of automatic control. Flight Dynamics Principles is a student focused text and provides easy access to all three topics in an integrated modern systems context. Written for those coming to the subject for the first time, the book provides a secure foundation from which to move on to more advanced topics such as, non-linear flight dynamics, flight simulation, handling qualities and advanced flight control. Additional examples to illustrate the application of computational procedures using tools such as MATLAB®, MathCad® and Program CC® Improved compatibility with, and more expansive coverage of the North American notational style Expanded coverage of lateral-directional static stability, manoeuvrability, command augmentation and flight in turbulence An additional coursework study on flight control design for an unmanned air vehicle (UAV)

Book A Human Error Approach to Aviation Accident Analysis

Download or read book A Human Error Approach to Aviation Accident Analysis written by Douglas A. Wiegmann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human error is implicated in nearly all aviation accidents, yet most investigation and prevention programs are not designed around any theoretical framework of human error. Appropriate for all levels of expertise, the book provides the knowledge and tools required to conduct a human error analysis of accidents, regardless of operational setting (i.e. military, commercial, or general aviation). The book contains a complete description of the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS), which incorporates James Reason's model of latent and active failures as a foundation. Widely disseminated among military and civilian organizations, HFACS encompasses all aspects of human error, including the conditions of operators and elements of supervisory and organizational failure. It attracts a very broad readership. Specifically, the book serves as the main textbook for a course in aviation accident investigation taught by one of the authors at the University of Illinois. This book will also be used in courses designed for military safety officers and flight surgeons in the U.S. Navy, Army and the Canadian Defense Force, who currently utilize the HFACS system during aviation accident investigations. Additionally, the book has been incorporated into the popular workshop on accident analysis and prevention provided by the authors at several professional conferences world-wide. The book is also targeted for students attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University which has satellite campuses throughout the world and offers a course in human factors accident investigation for many of its majors. In addition, the book will be incorporated into courses offered by Transportation Safety International and the Southern California Safety Institute. Finally, this book serves as an excellent reference guide for many safety professionals and investigators already in the field.
