This type of design and analysis procedure requires a knowledge of the relationship of stress intensity factor (K) as a function of crack speed (å). The minimum value of stress intensity factor (designated as KIm) on the K versus å relationship is of particular importance because crack arrest will occur if the stress intensity factor falls below this minimum value.

A finite-difference computer program was used to measure values of the dynamic stress-intensity factor KD. The relationship between values of KD and KS, the stress-intensity factor for a quasi-statically growing crack depended on the specimen geometry and loading system used.

A total of seventeen papers from seven countries, covering a span of topics from organic chemistry through physical chemistry and physics to engineering. Truly this Conference has 'come of age' and is acknowledged as the annual international venue for the consideration of adhesion in all its diversity.
