Download or read book Pollinosis written by Paolo Falagiani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-12-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This valuable work explores the comprehensive topic of pollinosis in allergic diseases. The first part of this book deals with the botanical aspects of pollinosis: physiology of pollen, aerobiology in the different countries, morphological data, and pollen chemistry. The drawings and tables are a valuable key for identification of pollens and preparation of pollen calendars. The other sections deal with the medical aspects of pollinosis: immunological basis, genetics, clinical pictures, diagnostic procedures and laboratory techniques, pharmacologic therapy and immunotherapy. Both the theoretical bases and practical applications are provided regarding each topic. Of tremendous benefit is the fact that, despite the book's focus on pollinosis, most sections are useful in facing all kinds of allergological problems. This book provides a basic reference for physicians and biologists involved in the field of allergy, both at the practical and research level.

Book Long Term Forest Dynamics of the Temperate Zone

Download or read book Long Term Forest Dynamics of the Temperate Zone written by Paul A. Delcourt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis presented in this volume is a direct outgrowth of our ten-year FORMAP Project (Forest Mapping Across Eastern North America from 20,000 yr B.P. to the Present). Many previous research efforts in paleoecology have used plant-fossil evidence as proxy information for primarily geologic or climatic reconstructions or as a bio stratigraphic basis for correlation of regional events. In contrast, in this book, we deal with ecological questions that require a holistic perspective that integrates the interactions of biota with their dynamically changing environments over time scales up to tens of thousands of years. In the FORMAP Project, our major research objective has been to use late-Quaternary plant-ecological data sets to evaluate long-term patterns and processes in forest de velopment. In order to accomplish this objective, we have prepared subcontinent-scale calibrations that quantitatively relate the production and dispersal of arboreal pollen to dominance in the vegetation for the major tree types of eastern North America. Quantification of pollen-vegetation relationships provides a basis for developing quan titative plant-ecological data sets that allow further ecological analysis of both individual taxa and forest communities through time. Application of these calibrations to fossil pollen records for interpreting forest history thus represents a fundamental step beyond traditional summaries based upon pollen percentages.

Book Proceedings of the 7th International Palynological Congress

Download or read book Proceedings of the 7th International Palynological Congress written by Elizabeth M. Truswell and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventh International Palynological Congress was held in Brisbane, Australia, from 29th August to 3rd September, 1988. Both the Congress and the papers compiled here show palynology to be a discipline striking in its breadth, characterised by a diversity of content, methodology and application. The breadth spans important applications in medicine, in evolutionary biology and taxonomy, in ecology, in stratigraphy and sedimentology, in oil exploration and recovery, in paleoclimatology and even in the highly practical forensic science. Within the fields themselves there is clearly an increasing depth of understanding as well as breadth of compass.

Download or read book Allergenic Pollen written by Mikhail Sofiev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-23 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to summarize all aspects of allergenic pollen: production, atmospheric distribution, and health impacts, as well as the means of monitoring and forecasting these phenomena. Based on a four-year effort by a large group of leading European scientists, this book highlights the new developments in research on allergenic pollen, including the modelling prospects and effects of climate change. The multidisciplinary team of authors offers insights into the latest technology of detection of pollen and its allergenic properties, forecasting methods, and the influence of allergenic pollen on the population. The comprehensive coverage in this book makes it an indispensible volume for anyone dealing with allergenic pollen worldwide. Readers involved in environmental health, aerobiology, medicine, and plant science will find this book of interest.

Book Meteorology For Pilots

Download or read book Meteorology For Pilots written by Mike Wickson and published by Crowood. This book was released on 2014-11-30 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new third edition of 'Meteorology for Pilots' has been modified to satisfy all aspects of the meteorological requirements necessary to be JAR compliant. It also discusses the latest data concerning global warming and its consequences, especially in relation to the El Nino effect. For aviation the study of meterology provides knowledge and awareness of the atmosphere, which is, after all, the medium within which the pilot works. A proper study of the subject will provide the basis that can enable a pilot to appreciate properly the weather forecast given to him for a flight - and indeed to forecast for himself. Technical aircraft safety is now approaching the highest standards, whilst safety affected by particular weather conditions remains a large problem.Clearly a proper study of meteorology can only assist the pilot in providing safe passage.
