Book Influence of Asymmetric Imperfections on the Vibrations of Axially Compressed Cylindrical Shells

Download or read book Influence of Asymmetric Imperfections on the Vibrations of Axially Compressed Cylindrical Shells written by Aviv Rosen and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of two types of asymmetric initial geometrical imperfections on the vibrations and buckling of axially loaded isotropic cylindrical shells is studied. The analysis is based on a solution of the Karman-Donnell nonlinear shell equations by the Galerkin method. The results indicate that the influence of the initial geometrical imperfections depends strongly on the mode of the initial imperfection and its relation to the mode of vibration. The imperfections may lower or raise the frequency. The buckling loads also depend strongly on the relation between the corresponding modes. In general, a reduction in buckling load is predicted, but in some cases the solution predicts an increase in buckling loads due to imperfections and in certain cases even large bending deformation without buckling.

Book The Effect of Axisymmetric Initial Imperfections on the Vibrations of Cylindrical Shells Under Axial Compression

Download or read book The Effect of Axisymmetric Initial Imperfections on the Vibrations of Cylindrical Shells Under Axial Compression written by Aviv Rosen and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vibrations of a cylindrical shell with an axisymmetric initial imperfection and axial preload are studied. Small asymmetric harmonic vibrations are superposed on the basic static axisymmetric equilibrium and the frequency of these vibrations is evaluated. The analysis is based on the nonlinear equations of shallow shell theory, and follows closely an earlier stability investigation by Koiter. The study is restricted to initial imperfections similar to an axisymmetric buckling mode of a perfect cylindrical shell and represents a first approximation only. Such imperfections exhibit a strong influence on the frequency of the vibrations. The possible implications of this effect are discussed. (Author).

Book excerpt: Stability and Vibrations of Thin-Walled Composite Structures presents engineering and academic knowledge on the stability (buckling and post buckling) and vibrations of thin walled composite structures like columns, plates, and stringer stiffened plates and shells, which form the basic structures of the aeronautical and space sectors. Currently, this knowledge is dispersed in several books and manuscripts, covering all aspects of composite materials. The book enables both engineers and academics to locate valuable, up-to-date knowledge on buckling and vibrations, be it analytical or experimental, and use it for calculations or comparisons. The book is also useful as a textbook for advanced-level graduate courses. - Presents a unified, systematic, detailed and comprehensive overview of the topic - Contains contributions from leading experts in the field - Includes a dedicated section on testing and experimental results

Book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures 1997

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures 1997 written by Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Analysis of Structures presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich plates, and shells. These elements are important components in a wide variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecraft and missiles, underwater vessels and structures, and modern housing. Today's engineers and designers must understand these elements and their behavior when they are subjected to various types of loads. Coverage includes the various types of nonlinearities, stress-strain relations and the development of nonlinear governing equations derived from nonlinear elastic theory. This complete guide includes both mathematical treatment and real-world applications, with a wealth of problems and examples to support the text. Special topics include a useful and informative chapter on nonlinear analysis of composite structures, and another on recent developments in symbolic computation. Designed for both self-study and classroom instruction, Nonlinear Analysis of Structures is also an authoritative reference for practicing engineers and scientists. One of the world's leaders in the study of nonlinear structural analysis, Professor Sathyamoorthy has made significant research contributions to the field of nonlinear mechanics for twenty-seven years. His foremost contribution to date has been the development of a unique transverse shear deformation theory for plates undergoing large amplitude vibrations and the examination of multiple mode solutions for plates. In addition to his notable research, Professor Sathyamoorthy has also developed and taught courses in the field at universities in India, Canada, and the United States.

Book Buckling of Structures

Download or read book Buckling of Structures written by I. Elishakoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers, written by friends and colleagues of Josef Singer, presents a comprehensive and timely review of the theoretical mechanics of thin shell-structures. Topics of great current interest such as the buckling of composite plates and shells, the plastic buckling of thin-walled structures and the optimum design of buckling sensitive curved composite panels are examined by experts, using a great diversity of approaches, whereby theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results whenever possible.Other topics reviewed include the buckling and post-buckling behaviour of imperfect shells under different external static or dynamic loads and a variety of boundary conditions. Papers dealing with the vibration and the dynamic response of thin elastic bodies are also presented.A strong emphasis is made on the practical applications aspect in the theories presented. Thus engineers, research workers and students who are involved with the design and analysis of shell structures made of different materials, and subjected to various static and dynamic loads will find this volume an invaluable source of reference.

Book Thermal Stresses IV

Download or read book Thermal Stresses IV written by R.B. Hetnarski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-05-10 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume of the handbook Thermal Stresses. Following the principles established when the first volume was published in 1986, the fourth volume consists of six separate chapters prepared by specialists in the field. Each chapter is devoted to a different topic in the area of Thermal Stresses. Many results have been published for the first time in Thermal Stresses IV. The exposition of the material is on the state-of-the art level, which should be appropriate for graduate students, researchers, and engineers specializing in the field of stress analysis. In most cases the material is presented with some historical perspective.A large number of references provided will allow the readers to augment their knowledge, after studying a particular chapter.

Book Influence of Periodic Axisymmetric Imperfections of Various Wavelengths on the Buckling Load of a Cylindrical Shell in Axial Compression

Download or read book Influence of Periodic Axisymmetric Imperfections of Various Wavelengths on the Buckling Load of a Cylindrical Shell in Axial Compression written by Stanford University. Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Koiter's well-known buckling analysis of cylindrical shells with periodic axisymmetric imperfections yields a solution which is valid for imperfection of different wavelengths and amplitudes. Numerical calculations were carried out to evaluate several of these cases. Of particular interest are imperfections of the wavelength which are larger than the one considered in Koiter's original analysis. In such cases, the validity of the solution may be extended to imperfection amplitudes of a much larger order of magnitude hitherto considered. The numerical results are plotted and tabulated. A rederivation of Koiter's analysis is added in an appendix together with a brief description of the computational method that was used. (Author).
