Download or read book Root Zone Water Quality Model written by Lajpat Ahuja and published by Water Resources Publication. This book was released on 2000 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication comes with computer software and presents a comprehensive simulation model designed to predict the hydrologic response, including potential for surface and groundwater contamination, of alternative crop-management systems. It simulates crop development and the movement of water, nutrients and pesticides over and through the root zone for a representative unit area of an agricultural field over multiple years. The model allows simulation of a wide spectrum of management practices and scenarios with special features such as the rapid transport of surface-applied chemicals through macropores to deeper depths and the preferential transport of chemicals within the soil matrix via mobile-immobile zones. The transfer of surface-applied chemicals (pesticides in particular) to runoff water is also an important component.

Download or read book Sustainable Management of Soil and Environment written by Ram Swaroop Meena and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-02 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fertilizers have been used extensively around the globe since the Green Revolution, due to the high subsidies. However, extensive fertilizer use exacerbates soil degradation and causes yield stagnation, and as a result threatens food security and soil sustainability, especially in developing countries. This means that sustainable soil and environmental management are vital to provide food and nutritional security for present and future generations. This has led to the International Union of Soil Science (IUSS) declaring 2015-2024 the International Decade of Soils. This book focuses on the impact of sustainable management of soil and environment on improving the functioning of soil-ecosystems and agronomic productivity, and also discusses food security, nutrient cycling, recent advances in INM technologies, eco-friendly cultivation, agricultural practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as conservation agriculture and its effects, and strategies for soil sustainability. Offering a comprehensive overview of management in the context of the sustainability of soil and the agroecosystems that it supports, it demonstrates the options available and provides insights into restoring soil health and matching soil nutrient supply with crop demand to ensure nutritional security in an eco-friendly environment.

Download or read book Atlas of Laos written by Bountavy Sisouphanthong and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is the first atlas of Laos of its kind and scope. It is intended as an aid to the State Planning Committee in including spatial factors in its development strategies, in reducing territorial inequalities, in giving a regional dimension to planning and in involving Laos in the process of regional integration of the Geater Mekong Subregion, which consists of the Indochinese Peninsula and China's Yunnan Province." "The statistics mapped in the atlas paint a picture of Laos at the end of the 1990s. The atlas provides an image of the country at a key moment in its development, 20 years after the founding of the Lao PDR. It measures the Lao PDR's degree of integration, evaluates its resources and potential, and highlights its spatial structures and dynamics. It is an instrument for cooperation between Laotian and foreign development partners and an educational tool for teachers and students."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Download or read book Farm Profits and Adoption of Precision Agriculture written by U.s. Department of Agriculture and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precision agriculture (PA) and its suite of information technologies-such as soil and yield mapping using a global positioning system (GPS), GPS tractor guidance systems, and variable-rate input application-allow farm operators to fine-tune their production practices. Access to detailed, within-field information can decrease input costs and increase yields. USDA's Agricultural Resource Management Survey shows that these PA technologies were used on roughly 30 to 50 percent of U.S. corn and soybean acres in 2010-12. Previous studies suggest that use of PA is associated with higher profits under certain conditions, but aggregate estimates of these gains have not been available. In this report, a treatment-effects model is developed to estimate factors associated with PA technology adoption rates and the impacts of adoption on profits. Labor and machinery used in production and certain farm characteristics, like farm size, are associated with adoption as well as with two profit measures, net returns and operating profits. The impact of these PA technologies on profits for U.S. corn producers is positive, but small. Keywords: Crop production information technologies, precision agriculture, variablerate technology, soil tests, global positioning system maps, guidance systems.
